Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

No LAN support, less classes or consolidated classes compared to bf2, no commander, no server browser, no joystick/flightstick support...

I get the feeling that the game was designed around consoles.

Does that same "feeling" help you find sources of water and converse with dead relatives? There is absolutely no way this game was designed around consoles. None. Playing Caspian Border I was blown the fuck away...what they are doing with those maps would never have been possible on a console first approach. Did you even play the open beta, or did you prefer to go with the Ouija board?

EDIT: Oh and obligatory - wtf, people complaining about BF3...preorder cancelled!

Dude, it's okay. Don't get all emotional. Instead, tell me what they are doing to make this a proper "Battlefield" game.

It is a little more Bad Company-ish than previous BF games but it is a whole lot of fun, far better than Bad Company 2 ever was.

Just bought it on amazon and redeemed the code through origin, loving the download speed.

That's cool and I get that. It's just not enough to make me install origin or buy day 1. I can wait. If it was a proper return to battlefield glory? Damn right, I'd be right there with you guys. There is just too much bullshit surrounding this release. DLC/Map packs/weapon packs/Pre-order demo, no steam.

WTF. I bought it through Origin and can't download. Yet people who bought it through other means can. Makes a lot of sense.

new SP trailer looks damn good! i didn't expect to play through it but after seeing that it looks like i'll put some time into it.

There are hours of MP beta footage out there, trailers, hundreds of pages of this thread and the last, plus a weeks-long open beta that combined, address all of your questions. I guess to come in at this point the most polished FPS in years, the most technologically advanced FPS ever, and go "Oh noes, it has a map pack (that I get for free if I preorder anyway)!"

I swear PC gamers are the most ridiculously hard people to please. If DICE sent down a hot chick and gave you a BJ and then made you a PBJ sandwich afterward, you'd complain if it was grape jelly instead of strawberry.

And I don't get the Bad Company comparisons. Yes, Rush was Rush mode, which was only in Bad Company. But I have 500 hours in BC2, and BF3 feels nothing like it.

I just got 3 e-mails from Origin telling me my game is ready to preload. They better not charge me 3 times. :p

I can see your point of view, but I disagree..Can we have a decent in game server browser? No? Okay. Well, can you release it on a platform 99% of us are already heavily invested in instead of coming up with your own? No? Well can we at least have LAN support? No? Really? Well, how about letting us host a dedicated server on our own? Can't do that either...:(

We're not hard to please, just quit taking shit away from us!

Another steam fanboy . Oh and the beta? You got 2 days before others if you preordered, so that is just a stupid argument. DLC, did you ever hear of the expansion packs for BF2? Guess not even though you consider yourself a BF fan.

No LAN support, less classes or consolidated classes compared to bf2, no commander, no server browser, no joystick/flightstick support. On top of all that you have the origin/steam debate. I will not install origin.

I get the feeling that the game was designed around consoles. They should have called it Bad Company 3. I'd have been fine with that. You guys have fun though, these are deal breakers for me.

Not gonna buy then then leave the thread troll!

DICE has done DLC (and expansion packs) right. they really packed a lot of content into BC2:Vietnam, it was easily worth $15. even the BF2 expansions were worthwhile IMO. i expect the same from Back to Karkand.

I'm certainly not trolling. I've stated my opinion so I'll leave it at that. You guys have fun.

/shrug

It looks like MW to me. Excited, but I dont see the difference in the story. Change out Russians for Insurgents.

Also is it just me or is anyone else having problems downloading off of the amazon dl'er for this game?

Uh looks like MW? I understand that both have soldiers and the ground combat looks the same but come on. Comparing it to MW is akin to comparing light beer to single malt scotch. Both are alcohol but one is FAR more complex than the other.

GG dice. It is going to have plenty of WTF? in the game but yeah, pretty cool.

i can see the comparison to the MW series, based on that trailer. both games have a very cinematic presentation and are set in modern combat. taking cues from the MW singleplayer would not necessarily be a bad thing IMO.

Actually DICE aimed to copy the MW singleplayer series, but wanted to prove that they can do it better!

Yeah not at all. Consider it what MW should have done aka making a NEW engine with updated graphics and game play.

But yeah. Looks like fun. Now if I can just score a free copy, that would be great. It is my bday after all.

I was speaking more towards the storyline/plot.

nvm I see 2-3 people already beat me to this response and you still dont get it. You keep on talking about graphics and what not. We're trying to compare apples to apples and your talking about oranges.

Not for me. :(

Damn EA/Origin.

Not sure why everyone is so upset that they cannot preload BF3 right when they unlock it. You have 4 fucking days to get the game preloaded. Settle the fuck down and quit crying.
