Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I love how the flashlights are brighter than the fucking sun.

I wish these devs would actually go out, FIRE and test penetration/kinetics of these weapons. They are way way way way the fuck off.

That's the problem with public servers (and the rush game type). Hopefully when the retail comes out there will be clan servers with people who actually try to play as a team. Right now it is just glorified deathmatch.

I armed the mcom about seven times solo in the starting section of Metro and we still lost.

EDIT: And we're not stupid, we got in the same party, tried to do a party join and apparently he never sees the thing to accept. He also isn't getting the dropdown to do "Join with Party" Quick Match. So basically we're stuck and I'm guessing it's because the beta is buggy as shit. Really frustrating.
Devs said it's not working properly in Beta.

Friend had the same problem where he would not see party join requests and other updates on battlelog. Think he had Avast Antivirus and when he disabled it things started to work alright.

Ha. The bugs are annoying but not nearly as bad as some of the design decisions. I guess it's a tricky one for DICE, there's a lot of pressure on them to produce a product that will steal a chunk of the MW market share, but to do so it seems they've had to make a game that appeals to those players and compromise on the quality of their product.

No way BF3 will be on Steam without needing Origin, at least not before launch. Can you imagine the avalanche of pre-orders being cancelled on Origin?

I would so pre-order IMMEDIATELY on steam if it meant that origin and battlelog weren't mandatory.

lol, why ask to exclude things that you already know are mandatory?
They'll make an ingame browser especially for Steam owners. Wait for it.

I can always dream can't I?

And it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to simply incorporate BF3 into steam's existing server browser. Or alternatively, maybe they will code an in-game browser given the amount of people on battlelog asking for it.

Well, i hit level 45 in the beta, it didnt take very long suprisingly

im sure they'll adjust the levelling system in the full game, but it took me a week or so of playing 3-4hrs a night and averaging anywhere from 2-6k per game.

my strategy that worked best for me is playing recon with the mobile spawn point and an SMG/4x acog sight on a bolt action sniper rifle and just run up the left/right or whatever has the least ammount of guys and plant the spawn point behind them and just kill everything in sight and keep spawning to the mobile spawnpoint :)

I make sure to shoot every bush I see if I haven't been observing it.

Especially if people start showing up behind me from nowhere. Those mobile spawn points are going to be the devil. :D

Not if people are on the ball. They make a loud beeping noise. Then you just have to locate it.

Things like that are discussed at the beginning of development, not 3 weeks before release.
The people asking for an in-game browser either forgot how crappy DICE makes them, have a slow PC or just used to the console way of doing things.
PC allows us to have flexibility and an in-game browser will only add restrictions. I'm not even playing BF3, I'm surfing websites and can monitor what my friends are doing at the same time, chat with them in real time while they're in a server.

Battlelog can update the game daily if needed to fix game issues, while an in-game browser need months in-between patches to insure game stability.

If they will get then USA, Europe, Australia etc. will get it also.
Which day is the question. At the same time, that guy is a terrible news maker.

Also it could only be an Booth demo, not necessarily apart of the Beta.

I was under the impression that its the later. Some kind of demo at that IgroMir show he mentioned.

That's quite a bit imo. I'm only at lvl 14 or something and feel like I've been playing forever.

I think I've had about 4 games where people were ticking along and playing well. Most of the time I get 3-4 people who are doing fairly well, and 12-13 people who are running around making sure to bump people out of cover or flinging lead down range while hiding next to a recon guy with a SVD.

You know.... normal PUG idiocy.:p

I'm generally dead or tossing health packs and paddling people.

yeah i agree for the most part. it's a tricky thing hunting down an enemy mobile spawn point in the bushes. you here the beeping and start closing in on it.....beeping is getting farther away i must be going too far to the left....adjust....beeping is getting closer...where is that little bastard....BAM two enemies spawn and you're dead :D

Seems like there are always 2-3 health packs where people are pushing/guarding an area, but never any damn ammo! Wth support people, wth.

Same here dude. There's very little teamwork going on that I've noticed so far, so I just run around racking up points from healing/revives.

thats exactly how BC2 was, few people doing anything together, the point system is what makes it this way. People can get more oints just running and gunning than actually doing anything else.

I would often spend entire rounds just running around reviving people only to get bitched at for doing it. I always try to help out my fellow teammates as much as I can but very few people do the same back.

all they want is kills, kills, kills.

Disagree strongly; I think the points system is very well thought out. I can't count the number of times that I've seen a person with only 3-4 kills at or near the top of the leaderboard because they were medic'ing their hearts out. Same thing with engi repairs on tank maps.

If you're just killing people, unless you're killing 3x or more the number of people as anyone else, you won't be the MVP of the match.

IMO the points system actually helps promote team play, in the exact same way it did in BC2. you score way more points for dropping ammo/med-packs, mobile spawns, revives, suppression, etc. than you do from pure kills. compounded onto that you get more points for supporting your squad mates. i currently have a 446 score/min according to Battlelog and very little of that is from killing.

Anyone have any info on wether or not TrackIR will be supported?

I've wanted one for a while for racing and flight sim... so I just picked one up from on a 40$ off sale.

I saw a bit on it, that they were considering it, but behind of regular development etc.. but haven't found too much so just curious if anyone else had found any info out.

Here's the link to sale if anyone is interested: http://.com/products/index.php?sku=38921&vpn=TRACKIR5&manufacture=Natural Point&promoid=1292

well i was playing with a friend so i had eyes on most of the enemies so i could just sneak around back and dominate everyone.

the levels come fast once you start racking up the ribbons for weapons/support/winning rounds, because at 50/40 of each ribbon you get a medal that gives you 20k points.

and every 100 kills with a weapon you get a service star that's work 3k points.

that's for sure, wether im on attackers or defenders i usually ALWAYS have a mobile spawnpoint setup behind the enemy :D

also, it does have a blinking red/blue icon when your close to it on your HUD.

yep, this is definately true, but i do a bit of support while killing and im getting 625ish points/min

So what does that flying bot thing do? I'm assuming you can pilot it and mark enemies for your team? That buzzing flying sound annoys the ever loving shit out of me, it's like a Pavlovian response, I don't care how many times I die until that thing is shot out of the air. Unfortunately it seems like you can use it nearly constantly, so it's in the air all the damn time when people have it.

I've tried to shoot it but I can't hit the dumb thing. What is it?!

I've shot a couple down, I agree the buzzing sound is annoying. If you can't shoot it down chances are it's your team's UAV. the problem is there is no wait time between deploying the UAV and EOD bots. You can redeploy immediately after they're destroyed.

if you do it right you can run people over with it :)

just aim for the left of them since the MAV view is on the left hand side of it or w/e.

also you can attach C4 to it and blow it up next to enemies without damaging the MAV since the FF is off.
