Battlefield 3 going to be awful ?

I was totally pumped for Battlefield 3, but now that I've played the BETA I'm actually now worried that the game is going to be really awful. The game is only 24 days from launch and the beta has more bugs then an ant farm ! Everyone keeps telling me to calm down its a beta remember ! Ya thats what they said about Bad Company 2. I remember those first 3 awful months of trying to play BBC2.

There are some very large beta bugs and tons of little one that make the game look crappy. My biggest concern is the poor performance and problems revolving around the 6xxx series cards. Also the scaling issues with 2560x1600, also the major lag spikes on the server side. Then all the small bugs like falling threw the map, instant death "meaning you never saw a hit marking telling you that you were shot" The glitchy character movements and models when doing actions like throwing a grenade. Also when I play I feel like I'm playing MoH all over again ! There just seems to be a bunch of bug that seems unlikely to be fix in only 2 short weeks, because you must account for the production time of making all the copy of the game will take at least 2 weeks.

I really hope EA and Dice prove themselfs and don't pull a Bad Company 2 on us again and release a ready game !

Don't worry, according to the fanboys "it's just a beta".
Also, DICE has repeatedly said that most of the glaring issues they have "fixed in the retail release" of the game.

So for some reason they are trying to drum up excitement with a pre-alpha build that has bugs in it that have "already been fixed" but we should try to find them anyways... Oh and you only get one map, since that is all they have ready for public use anyways...

I'm with you on this, but with their focus so heavily on battlelog, I think they are missing the reason they wanted a battlelog in the first place. I'll never understand why they keep trying this browser launching service.

I fully expect BF3 to be nigh unplayable on release, with 5-6 patches in the coming months to fix things up to a "release" state.

As I said in another thread, I've cancelled my pre-order and so have many of my friends due to DICE's incompetence showing with the beta, and their over-all reluctance to give up on a faulty product(battlelog/browser launching).

6950 here. Smooth as butter with the newest drivers, non beta

I haven't researched it much as I'm trying not to get too interested yet - going to wait a while for full reviews and such...

How's the modding scene going to look? BF2 Project Reality was the best team-based shooter I've ever played.

There is an official thread you know ..

Also while DICE made a fucking dumb choice using Metro as there demo for the game to the audience at large , the Conquest map that wasn't suppose to be playable by the public but wound up being so (somewhat) is totally awesome. Yes there are bugs , but guess what its a BETA

What do you expect for a beta? So what if its got more bugs than the Alpha , the Alpha had far less code and didn't include high resolution textures and various other differences from the 2. Also as its been stated they've already squashed a number of the biggest bugs and smoothed things out for the final release , but guess what? While the game goes Gold in the coming weeks they'll be hard at work for the day 1 patch that will likely shore up everything and provide a smooth experience overall. Basing performance from a beta with beta drivers? Come on now .. please tell me the PC gaming community has more common sense then that. Don't act like this is your very first PC game , this is common ground for performance related issues ... game releases , game gets patched , drivers get updated and performance is smooth across the board. Same bread and butter we've all been eating since we started.

Don't judge the ENTIRE game on a lousy choice of map/game type , if you even played 10 minutes of the Conquest map ..your fears would melt. I played hours on it and loved it , every minute of it. I can't wait for more , I fucking hate Rush but Conquest is everything I want out of a Battlefield game.

Why companies release public betas like this I will never understand. People just go apeshit every time they see a bug.

Who cares. Don't like the game then don't buy it.
There are always the few members that want people to hear their lame ass review of the game.

Anyone know if the lean is going to make it into the game?

It looks awesome but plays like MW3.
No battlefield feel at all.

Highly not it.

Right now, unless something catastrophic happens on me, I'll be getting this game.:D

As others mentioned, the major bugs will be ironed out, its just a matter of when. Fair enough if someone wants to wait till the bugs are fix before getting it, I know I would too, if not for the free map pack that comes with pre-order.

And DICE doesn't release Battlefield title like Activision does with COD which is almost every year, so I'm convinced that BF3 will be supported for a long time, and the bugs we see now will all be fixed.

I guess you can call me religious since I can't back up my confidence in DICE with any hard prove. :p But with DICE recent patch for BC2, thats enough to convince me that they do support their product well.

Anyone know if the lean is going to make it into the game?

Highly doubtful. Not even BF2 have it.

Very disappointed. I was expecting a true BF2 sequel but alas its a BC2 clone. Clearly they should've named it BC3. It's a shame to call this BF3.

^ everyone who says that didn't play the Caspian map.

Caspian is awesome for numerous reasons:
-It's HUGE, obviously it dwarfs any Bad Company map. And this is just a taste of the maps the large conquest maps they have.
-Rolling hills and lots of rocks/trees/environmental obstructions means that even though the map is so large, fighting is usually up close. Makes things harder for snipers. I love the way rolling hills give you a lot of opportunity to strategically move around. The Metro map is nothing but a head-on rush fest, NOTHING like the majority of the maps that will be in the full game.
-Jets/helicopters.

I saw the light when I finally got into a Caspian server. Obviously there are other issues with the game, but I have faith in Dice to get things patched....even if it takes a couple months.

I seriously want to like this game, but so many problems are abound right now that are really driving me away from it. It definitely won't be a day 1 for me, but maybe sometime next year. And just saying, I do love BF1942, BF2 and BC2. I would love to play Caspian, but as it stands NO servers are up and running with it. My biggest problem though is the fucked up customized controls. You try to re-assign Strafe Right for me, and it would completely lock up the menu and would make me have to quit the game entirely to fix it.

Sigh. Beta. BETA.

Why is there always a thread bitching about a game and how it's gonna fail because of bugs in a BETA. As if it's NEVER going to get fixed or that they are NEVER going to improve it . Come on, this is just plain stupid. Only a fool would think that DICE would fuck up something this major for a game that is universally one of the biggest things to happen to gaming in quite some time.

They know this game is going to be their "Rosebud". They know this game is going to be the benchmark for which all military FPS will be judged against in the foreseeable future. The spotlight is on them to make this a "COD killer". That's why the SP campaign is being worked on considerably compared to all previous BF games. BC2 was just a prototype for the graphics and game engine for BF3.

Yes, it was dumb to use Metro as the beta map which most people will judge the game on. Caspian Border map SHOULD have been the map to beta test this. Not only is it a bad ass map, it shows everything that makes BF series great: BIG ass maps, jets, helos, tanks, you name it. Not a single person who has tried the Caspian map says that the game is going to suck. If they do, then they are the most spoiled little entitlement bitches I have ever seen and nothing will make them happy.

But by all means don't buy the game and play it. Just means I get a bigger chance to get a spot on the servers when the game is released while you go and sulk in a corner and play more COD.

As far as performance: This games runs SMOOTHER than BC2 did for me on my system in my sig. That was my biggest worry right before I played the demo, I was worried that my system would barely handle it. My worries were shortlived. If you got major problems, just chill, they will get it fixed, unlike the subhumans who supported Black Ops.........

So, in summary.....

"Beta" only goes so far. This game comes from a larger, better-funded studio than RO2 and is even buggier than that. But I can overlook the constant CTDs and paper rocks and all the collision and hit detection issues. I can't overlook the fact that it feels so much like they've targeted the CoD crowd so much that they've compromised the "battlefield"-ness of a battlefield game.

Not played Caspian yet so I'm reserving judgement, but the game feels kind of pants so far.

Just let me look at a damn map. In BF2 I would pop up the map constantly. I don't know why so many games these days make it such a big deal to look at a damn map, or stick you with a tiny mini-map only.

I like it a lot. Personally from the 1 map other than caspian, thats available to everyone it feels a lot faster paced similar to MW2, which to me is a good thing. Not that any BF3 fanboy will admit it. Im personally a big fan of both series and enjoy them both immensely for what they are good at.

A BF3 fanboy won't admit that you like it more?

Less bugs than RO2 :D (though...at the start of the beta it had less than when it finished...

It is their biggest franchise, so it would make sense for them to invest time to fixing bugs...

After all, it is a beta

remember it is beta!

Hopefully they'll push some optimizations and fixes out live mid-beta

Those individuals already contemplating canceling their pre-order should remember that this is a beta

stop crying babies, its the first hours of beta

Yeah shit is getting hammered. People will bitch like no tomorrow even though it's a beta.

Very disappointed after all the recent hype, the Beta release is a Fail so far.

HOW DARE THEY HAVE BUGS IN A BETA ON OPENING DAY???

some replies from the first 2 pages only in the Bad Company 2 Beta :D

This game plays so unlike either of the BC games that I don't even have the words to refute the wrongness of that statement. It's 'all the wrongs'

Now, if you'd said, this plays like the Multiplayer side of last years Medal of Honor title, you'd be dead on.

LOL, all I see are Canceled my pre-order, the game is crappy, haha Please do all of us a favor and blow your PC up cause you dont know how things actually work. If you seriously dont know what a "BETA" is then, do not download it. The game play is awesome, graphics are beautiful. Yes there are some glitches oh wait... it is a "BETA". .cmon for god sakes.

EA isn't getting my money "Just because". I'll give it a few weeks and see how it goes. Everybody gets in a tizzy when someone bitches about a game but I'm definitely one of the few actually listening. I'm an adult I know how to parse the bullshit and my money is precious so please bitch away I wanna all the good and bad.

Yes, because cancelling a preorder due to an underwhelming beta (when release is just around the corner) means somebody is walking away from the game forever, and directly insulting YOU for not cancelling your preorder!

Oh, wait, no. It just means they're unhappy with the current state of the game and would prefer to see if that carries over to release before putting our own money down for it. (ie. most of us don't have parents in the next room to buy it for us) Most people who are interested in the genre will end up buying it if it's ironed out and solid, even if we do cancel our preorders.

i want to like bf3, but its just.... well, metro sucks ass, and there doesnt seem to be any point to squads anymore. and the beta is buggy as hell.

maybe the conquest maps will be ok, caspian wasnt half bad, but i just dont see the team work returning to like it once was.

i havnt pre orderd yet pretty much for that exact reason. if it wasnt for the karkand pack, i know i would never pre order it, with the game in its current state. knowing EA though, theyll charge 20 bucks for the damn map pack, so its kind of a gamble at this point. do i wait and see the game doesnt suck, and hten buy it for 60, and the map pack for another 20. or do i buy the whole thing now for just 60, and hope it doesnt suck when it comes out.

I liked the demo. buggy but it is beta. Ready for the full game! Hopefully they fix the bug where i cant bind mouse4 mouse5 to anything,
