While everyone is currently piling on EA for not allowing other game studios to use Porsche vehicles in their racing games, Jalopnik has posted an editorial today that says it is Porsche that doesn’t care about gamers.

There are mostly losers in this kind of agreement. EA loses because they look like a bunch of dicks and gamers lose because they're not getting access to the world class sports cars people actually race. But the biggest loser is Porsche.

Kids logging on to race GT-Rs instead of 911s will grow up wondering why they should spend all that extra money to buy a Porsche when they can buy a car they've already fallen in love with in the digital realm.

This, 100 times this.

Yep. As unrealistic as it may sound it's totally plausible. I fell in love with the Mitsubishi Twin Turbo GTO in GT 1 and the first car I bought when i could drive was a twin turbo stealth (same car but sold by dodge). So it does actually happen.

I'm on my seventh Porsche, and I have to say that video games played absolutely no part in my decision-making.

well those cars are not in the general population's price range to begin with

Porsche for my driving style in games suck. Never used them to race due to wonky handling.
I've always been a Nissan and Toyota fan. Owned 240SXs, 200SX and Toyota Supra's.
I agree with creating fans of your brand early, but young people aren't driving Porsche's of the lot by the thousands any time soon.

This kind of thing can happen, and probably will even more as these racing games become more and more realistic. These new games allow you to not only drive the car and get the feel of it (as best you can by driving a video games, which many have said to be a pretty accurate representation), but you also can fall in love with the actual engine sound, the cockpit, and even tinker around with modding it in the game... something you might not ever get a chance to do in real life. I fell in love with the Subaru WRX STI from playing it so much in all the racing games and such. Guess which car I bought when I finally was able to afford a nice one?

I fell in love with the Dodge Viper... first drove it in "Test Drive 4" back in the day.

I will buy one.

That's OK, I don't care about Porsche. They wouldn't even make my top 5 for a sports car.

There are several "luxury" toy companies out there that won't license any of their products. Not just cars.

Gulfstream is a big one. You won't see an officially licensed G650 or any other Gulfstream aircraft in a game.

Frankly they don't care because people who can buy a Porsche or Gulfstream still will.

I personally think the article is bullshit. We have no way of knowing what is in that license agreement between EA and Porsche.

Porsche could possibly stand to be sued if they just decided to let the Forsake folks use Porsche cars in the new game.

I would like to see some proof that Porsche doesn't care about gamers.

FUD

The only racing sim I play religiously in GT. I've owned all of them. And now I own a Porsche (in real life), and while I would enjoy seeing a vehicle I own appear in a video game, GT did not come to mind at all when I walked into the dealership.

Aren't porsches girls cars anyway? If they don't think girls play games, this isn't going to hurt their intended market. :p

I first fell in love with driving a cop car in the first GTA. Following this dream only lead me to misery. and prison.

Just saying a Nissan GT-R is a better car then the Porsche 911 its been proven. If you want the faster car go GT-R but if you want the pride or class of owning a Porsche then Porsche it is.

Apparently Turn 10 owns the licence for Ferrari and no recent EA game has had Ferraris in it so it seems like they have a stalemate.
EA -> Turn 10 no Porsche
Turn 10 -> EA no Ferrari

This.

Also, there's a million other cars in the price range of a Porsche that are WAY nicer.

I think that is very subjective. I would never buy a Porsche, but that is because they arn't exactly practical for what I want out of a car. Of course I cannot afford a Porsche right now, so that isn't an issue anyway. Porsche does one damn good job of making street legal sports cars, and that is a niche market that they pretty much own.

So I guess this means no Porsche vehicles for the next Forza game? That is going to suck as Forza 2/3 were the first racing games where I actually used a Porsche to race due to them being the first to really get the handling engine down right.

Probably because it costs about as much as a carrera S, and blows almost every super car away, not bad a for a twin turbo V6.

ROFL my WAFLS.

if you buy a porsche for any kind of a "halo" reason, it would be because of the racing heritage it represents.

not whether it appeared in a game when you were a kid.

and FYI, Porsche Unleashed is far and away the best racing game EA ever made, and many people, Porsche fans and not, agree.

Hasn't Porsche always pulled these kinds of shenanigans? I mean this sounds awfully a lot like PGR 3/4 all over again.

Oh well. Too bad we won't hear Jeremy Clarkson rant about them in the game as just another beetle.

Lol porsche is gay but that nissan gtr is cool? That nissan looks like another crappy asian sports car. You'll turn more heads with a porsche since its actually cool looking.

This, but I'm not too keen on the idea of a Porsche Unleashed remake. I've seen EA re-release NFS: Hot Pursuit and MOH, and I thought both were below mediocre. I don't want to see the same thing happen with Porsche Unleashed.

i actually toyed with the idea in my head that i wish EA would "remake" porsche unleashed in style and spirit with a Corvette. but seeing EA games of late i dont want them to either.

Porsche doesnt care about potential customers either, so it's not surprising :)
I wanted to buy a Cayman S and couldnt get dealers in 2 different states to sell me one as they were out of order slots. Their expectation is for you to sit around indefinitely and wait for a slot to be available...
