Seems to be the same as the SG07 with an updated, simplified front fascia. You can see a brief glimpse in this video.

Personally, I'd like to see them do a version with 25 - 30mm chopped off the overall height.

just stand your sg07 on its front and you have it , no need to wait any longer

giggles

Jen

well... I did do that in anticipaiton of my FT03

only one issue on carpeted floors:
the bezel above the DVD drive is err.... bent as a direct result, lol. Pushed in :(

I had to push it back out :p

I found that a bit disappointing... I personally find the SG07 to look nicer with it's 'Star Wars Empire' looks. Maybe the SG08 has something else going on inside?

where is the vertical orientation mITX case I have been waiting for forever? :p
Yeah. Mind you I'd be concerned with stability for a vertical mitx case.

SG08 looks good though; hopefully they just refine the features.

well, if the PSU is on the bottom, there *should* be enough weight to keep the system standing :p

Only if it had to also have vents for an insane HD6990 and stuff, would there be a serious issue :)

Now, maybe a tower HSF could cause the issues, too...

But the thought never even crossed my mind, lol

Here's another closer look with commentary, wish I could translate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JpH8v4nz8E/#t=2m14s

I was gonna translate for ya, but there is nothing in there you cannot understand by her pointing, already. argh, nvm, I'll go. First case, she mentions USB3, fan + filter, 3.5" external, if you want to put long cards the AP181 can go otherwise limited to 13.3" cards; second case is tj04-1 (or "-e?"), after the CD ROM, she mentions being able to fit lots of HDD & SSD.[jeremy note] I am not sure how it's gonna happen, and I only listened once and heard her mentioning 9 HDD/SDD..., so..... anyhow, continuing[/jeremy note]: she first talks about how popular the SG05/06 are in her representative area: singapore, and the new SG08 has a different front cover made of alumi, same PSU, same AP181, reporter asks when on the market, she says before end of year, and a few orders before the break is out?? [jeremy note]Dunno, I listened through once, and I'm not going back to listen again, lol.... well.. if you want a clarification, you sure can ask.[/jeremy note]

Thanks for the notes. That's disappointing that there's not too many real changes. I'm curious as to why in the other video they have a 590 in the case when Silverstone itself admits it's PSU doesn't have a hope of powering the thing, much less provide adequate cooling. I had hoped for like a 700-750 watt PSU.

Something to accomodate the heat from a 6990/590 would have been great too, but that's just dreaming :D

Why dissapointed? you can easily fit a normal ATX PSU if you don't like the one provided.

To be fair SG07 only lacks the USB3 ports, which is not a big deal. I like the facelift, it's more sober now.
It lacks e-sata/firewire, but to be fair it's a SFF, is it that much trouble to go around the case? :)
Hopefully they fixed the front panel jacks.

the only "normal ATX PSU" more powerful than the stock 600W that allows for a GPU to still be installed in the SG07/ (and presumeably) SG08 cases is the Seasonic 620W (non modular)...

not a lot of PSU choices if it's just two, including the one it came with, IMO. If it was a 700W+ PSU from a decent ODM/OEM, then we'd be talking. However, as it stands, the only real option is barely better than the stock PSU.

Well, there is a Nexus Compact PSU rated with lower 12V rail despite being a 630W PSU...

SG07 PSU length is 140mm. Standard ATX PSU depth is 150mm. With they way the cables are routed its also impossible to use a modular PSU (there is only room for the cables to exit at the end of the PSU, not along the full width)

the design no longer applies, the sg07 was only that long to accommodate the 5970 with the design philosophy of the smallest possible case with the largest possible vga card.

scratch the 6990/590 off the list due to exhaust at both ends, which leaves the 6970/580 which is 20mm shorter. the case is too big

yeah, I thought the case was a wee bit large, too :(

But there isn't much space you can take off, anyways. the ITX mobo + ATX PSU is what set the length of the SG07, not a HD5970 (IMO). It was nice to fit one, however...

true, however people are shoe-horning gtx570s + atx psu + h70 into an sg05, 580 is the same length so in theory the highest spec sg08 rig can be acheived in the sg05

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1037308677

They are using GTX570 HD variant from EVGA mostly and that's a shorter one, like a GTX560 ti

Well... between the SG07 and SG05, i think it all comes up to if, you want to use an internal ODD and do a little modding.

Because, SG05 might be cheaper, but add up an ATX PSU and it takes you almost to the price of SG07. Not to mention that in case of ATX mod you have to use WC, so that's extra $.

The details for SG08 are not out yet but as i said, it looks like a facelift with usb 3.0 ports.
Only thing that bugs me about SG07/08 (probably), there is no exhaust fan. How are the temps on a high end aircooled system?

Has anyone tried to flip that 180mm fan upside down and running it as exthaust fan without dust filter? Change in temps?

Unless you're placing the case on an enclosed shelf no need for an exhaust fan, the bottom is ventilated at both sides and the hot air is forced out there by the AP fan

Agreeing with Fr500 that there is no need for an exhaust fan -- the Air Penetrator is efficient in keeping the whole motherboard cool.

Don't worry about that, the air is forced out off the case.
And although the GTX 590 and HD 6990 exhaust hot air from both sides it shoundn't be the reason to not get one in a SG07/08 build!

With my GTX 275 installed (this one) I felt air being forced out through the holes behind the card anyway. So that part of the hot air does get out of the case as well (thanks to the AP!).
Note: A 'open' card like mine is not the best card to get for your SG. Especially in the SG07 you need a closed card to provide it from 'fighting' with the 180mm AP!
A GTX 590 or a HD 6990 are fine...

I'm not interested in the SG08, but ...regarding the SG09 I wish vor something like that:

- no ODD
- no 3,5'' Drive
- can fit two 2,5'' Drives (SSD&HDD)
- can fit a ATX PSU
- can fit a GTX 580
- can fit something like a Mugen 2
- same size as a SG05/06
- smaller footprint than a SG05/06 (only about as big as the front of them!)

Impossible? ...well...

The front of this SG05 should be the bottom of the SG09 and you would have a cute little tower... :D

Argh... how do I contact Silverstone... >_<

Has Silverstone said anything about a release date for this case? If it's mostly a SG07 with a new front panel, how long could it take to get into production? We're almost half way through August already!

If anybody knows anything about a release date of the silverstone SG08, please post it here! I'm impatiently awaiting it's arrival :)

Aah I'm already dreaming again about the rig I'm going to build with this baby by the end of year:

SG08, 2600K, hopefully a better itx mobo than the zotac for oc'ing, "Maingear EPIC 180" cpu water cooler, add later: AMD 7970...

Hopefully, by the time they launch the SG08 they'll have a more powerful, higher quality SFX PSU ready too.

Dammit, I was ready to pull the trigger on a new build with the SG07, and then I found out the SG08 is supposed to come out soon. Liking the looks of the 08 a bit more (and USB 3.0 is nice).

I've news,

I asked Silverstone germany last week recalling info about the sg08 release. They have answered that it will be availible in europe at mids of november.

Hey trabuquero, thanks a lot. I'm also on the lookout of this case. 2 more months that is quite some time. Perhaps I will build on the Silverstone FT03 instead. I'm sick of waiting :)
