As if it wasnt already obvious with the press conference and the NDA on that press conference being lifted a few days later, the below image has shown up on battle.net. It showed up more then a week ago on the european battle.net.

Coworker of mine has secured me a beta key from his friend :) Today is my 2 year wedding anniversary, I told my wife we might not make it to 3.

I know the first SC2 beta key's went out to blizzcon attendees. I would not be surprised if D3 keys were the same way.

Forward this thread to blizzard. I'm sure someone will take you guys up on your offers!

Oh great...we're having to suck penis for beta access to AAA Blizzard titles now. Gawd! :p

Err, what? August? Of 2012, right? I wasn't expecting any sooner than that.

Edit: Nevermind, you're talking of the beta, not release. Oops.

I believe Blizzard is targeting a holiday 2011 release for D3

God I hope not. Game release overload

This was posted on mmo-champion.com several months ago, and it was said to be a leaked timeline for Blizzard's upcoming games. While no one knows if it's true or not (mmo-champion.com always even adds a disclaimer), it has so far proven to be accurate. Blizzard just recently announced WoW Brazil for exactly when the timeline said to expect it. It was also correct for WoW Mobile and Cataclysm IIRC.

edit: you can probably throw the WoW movie out of the timeline too lol:rolleyes:

I know it's close to blasphemy to the PC gaming Gods, but I never played Diablo or Diablo 2. Is Diablo a RTS type strategy game? Is it like Torchlight? What kind of game is it? And is Diablo 3 going to be something I can get into without having played the first two?

Torchlight is a Diablo-style game (very similar gameplay). Also you won't miss much by not playing the first 2.

Torchlight is a Diablo clone, but Torchlight is much more cartoon-ish than Diablo is. Both D1 and D2 have great online play that allows you to play the entire single player game online. D1 was ruined by hackers, but no one really plays anymore so those who do are just playing for old times sake.

Play the first two. They are both quite old and graphically dated, but the story and looting is great, especially in D2.

You really won't understand what's going on in the 3rd without playing the first two.

Are you kidding? Unless you completely ignore the story line and just play for the character creation and looting, you're not going to have a clue what's going on story wise. The events of each game are directly related to each other.

d2 is ruined by hackers, bots, and shops

I guess, but this can all be avoided, with the exception of shop ads. You don't have to buy items, and there are no real hackers in the D1 sense (you could edit any attribute, add any item, pretty much do anything). Sure there are dupers, but they aren't as bad as they were pre 1.10. If you want to, you can play D2 completely legitly with other people who play legitly. The only annoyance you have to deal with is the shop ads in public games.

At the end of D1's hay day, every game that you joined people were using trainers and killing each other in town. It was pretty ridiculous. What's happening/happened in D2 is nothing in comparison.

I bet the Diablo 3 beta will start during Blizzcon , perfect time to start it. All the hype built up from those events are a great time to mass test a product.

We'll know more after the 27th, they're having a press conference very, very soon. All of rumors do point to an August beta, might actually ship this year! :D

Yes the events are related, but a quick read on wikipedia will get you going on the story (it's really not that complex...). The multiplayer aspect is what made the first 2 fun and that's a little harder to do now unless you got some buds that still want to play.

I've tried going back to play the other 2 again and just got bored/annoyed with the graphics, but that's just me.

Personally I love going back to play D2 with the eastern sun mod. Botters, hackers and lag always ruined the multiplayer portion for me so I much preferred playing offline. I've tried just about every mod out there and eastern sun is the best I've come across. It slightly tweaks the talent trees to make several builds builds viable that weren't before. It still 'feels' like D2 in that it's not a complete overhaul of the trees or mechanics like many of the mods do. It's also relatively balanced (no hitting 1 mob and leveling 5 times at the beginning, etc) and it stays pretty challenging through normal and nightmare.

Be warned that it does become a massive grindfest if you intend to play hell mode though. The guy went and added in hundreds of runewords and an equipment forging /crafting system that are required to actually make it anywhere on hell.

Also IMO D2 LOD > Torchlight in pretty much every way. Torchlight's loot, item enhancement and skill 'trees' (they don't even branch!) pale in comparison to D2's. You'd be doing yourself a disservice by not going back and playing D2 if you remotely liked Torchlight. I still play D2 on a regular basis, Torchlight is long deleted.

I wonder if D2JSP will sell beta invites for fg

I must have put over 1000 hours into Diablo 2 back in my day. Competed on both softcore and hardcore ladders. A few ladders back I was #3 on the hardcore ladder at level 94 with my Amazon but ended up lagging doing a Shenk run and died, it kinda sucked. And TPPK is (was?) so prevalent that I ended up tying my hair into pigtails and going back to softcore. I kinda miss the 1.09 days when new players would trade chipped gems for good items to higher level players, and then you'd use the chipped gems to roll a Cruel Colossus Blade via cubing, fun times.

One thing I loved to do was stack the "Gold Find" stat to insane levels. This was with approx 2500% extra gold find:

Gambler's dream. I've gambled alot of unique rings/amulets that way.

Just reinstalled Diablo 2. I think I'm gonna take it slow and just play through the game instead of boosting myself with my leftover fg. =)

If you know a blizzard employee, they have a certain number of keys to give to family and friends. I've already secured one.
