New Lara Croft trailer

Tomb Raider must sell like crazy, because they make a new one almost annually and stick Hitman, Thief, Deus Ex, Legacy of Kain, and Timesplitters on the back burner year after year.

Well the one thing Tomb Raider has going for it is the title and lead character have recognition, and much more so compared to the series you mentioned.

Deus Ex Invisible War was not a financial hit, well received critically, or well received by the core fan base. Ion Storm also closed down shortly after, so the franchise got stuck in limbo. There might have been some legal issues as well regarding ownership. But DX3 is out soon in 2 months, and from what we know so far (which is quite a bit due to the leaking of the press demo) it has been done right.

Hitman Absolution will be shown at E3 and is also scheduled for next year.

Not a follower of the other 2 series, so can't comment on those.

So is it going to be called Tomb Raider: God-Forsaken Island?

I'm wondering if this is going to be a prequel to the series (i.e. when it says "a survivor is born"), or some random non-tomb related adventure?

Either way, epic trailer. Is it just me, or did she have breast reduction surgery since the first game? :p

AFAIK all of those except the last two have sequels coming out. Would really love to see a TimeSplitters sequel, though.

That much I know. I'm just kinda bummed that they sat on all these great, unique franchises and pumped out a half dozen Tomb Raider games in the meantime.

I'm down with calling this tomb raider, but don't call her Lara Croft. Maybe she can be a character for a different type of Tomb Raider game, but she clearly isn't Lara Croft. It seems kind of backwards to me to change a character that has such incredible recognition due to her being around for such a long time throughout the series. I get that they're trying to make her more realistic or whatever, but it's a video game, who cares about realism?

And on another note of honesty, people didn't buy the most recent Tomb Raider because it wasn't good, not because Lara Croft was this ultra sexual character.

Having said all of that, I don't really care from a consumer point of view what Lara Croft looks like, they just need to make a good game! I might think it's strange to throw away the almost brand name look of lara crofts face, but if it works, it works. I enjoyed Legend, but everything else in recent years has been pretty mediocre. Good Luck to them.

they are trying to break away from the name tomb raider. all the new games will be called laura croft something. i am a fan of the series. the combat is a little odd on some of the games but, i enjoy the puzzles. the most resent game far to isometric. it reminded me of diablo 2. combat was simple, most puzzle are easy, at least compared to the others. turning point looks good if any of it was the game engine. as long as it is better then guardian of light in complexity.

I think their approach is good, though the quality of it's execution remains to be seen.

It's like the batman movies revamped or any other origins story. After any series gets too long, they decide to start over with an origins restart, making things more gritty and real. Most of you do realize that this is the young girl Lara Croft before she grew up to be the famous tomb raider.

I also like they this is supposed to be more open world sandboxy in feel.

Annually? If the release date is correct, this game will come out four years after the last Tomb Raider title (Underworld, which was released in November of 2008). As for their other franchises, Hitman, Thief, and Deus Ex all have new installments currently in development, and they're all handled by other studios, so that has absolutely nothing to do with the frequency at which Tomb Raider games are released.

That's why this game is called Tomb Raider, right?

Fucking awesome! The new Lara looks great! A much more believable character now. Ill be keeping an eye on this one.. Good to see Crystal Dynamics still in business too.

That looks outstanding!! Let's hope the game play is as good as the game looks! Stunning....

You'd rather they turn those great franchises into Madden with yearly releases instead of taking their time and doing them justice? Okay.

Supposedly it begins where you don't feel like Lara Croft, but as the game progresses, and the characters evolves, some of the old familiarities will gradually work it's way in (stuff like the famous 2 hand guns with holsters)

cough Alison Carroll cough. before I get excited, gameplay will be like Angel of Darkness & Underworld or that Guardian of Light thing where the character is too small?

Definietly reminds me of Alex Archers "Rouge Angel" series of books character now.

Really liking the new look too
