The much touted royal wedding dominated the news on Friday and also as expected, set some new records for live streaming. The marriage of Prince William put strains on a variety of carriers, creating ‘technical difficulties’ for several of the services.

However fears that the global media event -- expected to draw two billion viewers worldwide and many of them online -- could "break" the Internet proved unfounded.

You and the other 4 billion people.

you mean 5 billion other people. it's estimated at 7 Billion now, from what I heard this morning when they were talking about the wedding.

Never cared about royalty. Actually kinda offends my sensibilities, given the history of royalty and monarchs, but whatever.

Watched bits of it now and then, thought it was well done and at least it was something positive even if the media did over do it in the weeks before it actually happened.

Even the royals themselves, Kate including, don't care about all of this hoo-haa.

It's all a big show. Just enjoy it.

The royals actually MAKE more money for England than they cost to keep.

It's like a statue that costs some upkeep but makes that back from tourism.

The only problem is - some of us would like to be the statue.. but then.. would you really? Think about it.

I like the family feud part where the jilted Barry and family. Send back our bust of Winston, take that sucka.

I think the actual wedding proceedings with the Arch-Bishop and whatnot made me sick. God blah blah blah this God blah blah blah that. God God God.

If there is a God, he certainly doesn't give any more of a shit about this wedding than any other one. These old archaic institutions make me sick.

It was all the people looking for someone who actually gived a crap.

Plus the UK doesn't even have proper broadband. 3 people simultaneously watching youtube would overload the whole islands internet, so 2 billion is rediculous.

UK? Oh that place that forces its own people to pay for the life style of the royal and undeserving. Yeah, I could care less about the wedding. That's UK tax payer money being wasted right there,

Royal family is just a coverup for having sex with each others brothers and sisters. :p

Honestly though who cares? Especially in the US. We were watching this shit in school. So the tornado victims are not as important as 2 pointless people getting married over in the UK? This is almost as bad as when the World Cup was going on and everyone thought they knew everything about soccer suddenly. I think kids get stupider and stupider every year.

Is there any truth to this? I figure most people go to the UK to see the castles and such and not the royals. I can't imagine the royals are on display anyway.

unlimited 2 megs a second here in Manchester, UK, unlike the new AT&T cap that's coming in the US

I bet the majority viewing the live stream were/are robots collecting personal privacy data from the videos.

*Cough* I think Princess Kate has figured out the whole monarchy bit...

bah, my statics (just a guess)

50% single women
10% gay man (sorry but had to)
25% couples who already got married
10% children who's parents let them watch TV after sleeping time.
5% man who had no choice but to watch the darn thing to get some benefit later on.

and rest of us don't give a crap, not because it was wedding or the prince's wedding, but it doesn't really matter to us as we've other things to do that we enjoy like going for movies (yep i went to see fast five) or hanging out with friends, shooting pool and drinking beer. hack i can even say there were more people watching porno online at the same time.

Yeah I know costs me about 67p per year what a shitter I could have saved that and purchased half a litre of petrol.

I was really into it for about 7 minutes, but after I blew my load I totally lost interest and turned the shit off.

seriously, I just knew this happened from this thread. stupid Al Jazeera is only focusing on the revolutions in the middle east lately. anyway it’s nice to see that other counties also have thief’s steeling people’s money because they have that special royal blood.

Yeah it was great, trying to get a little news in the morning unfortunately I couldn't because of this wedding, fact: they happen everyday...who cares

The only things I care about that have to do with the UK are....A handful of Guy Ritchie's films, Shawn of the Dead, maybe Yogscast and TotalBiscuit a little...

Other then that...don't care

Supposedly, yes. For what it costs to maintain the royalty, the returns are said to be some 250%. And it's not just the royals per se, but the whole tradition and hoopla surrounding them. The whole 2 billion viewers thing is pretty demonstrative when you consider how much of the world is without television.

I'm no fan of royalty but I thought it was interesting as hell to watch. It was simply an interesting event.

+1. It actually annoyed me; because it was hard to watch any news channel where they weren't talking about it. I care more about my morning dump that watching or hearing about that garbage.

According to the 2010 statistics there are only 1.9 billion people using the internet... So apparently, everyone on the internet was on watching it, and brought a few non internet using friends...

See, no proper broadband :p Go to Finland or South Korea or Japan, countries that expand infastructure and see how 2mb compares. After using 150mb/s then going to 1.5mb/s, it feels like dail up again :(
