Corsair: 650D

Redbeard,

Please could you post the dimensions of the 650D? I'd guess it's similar to the 600T, but it'd be great to get some actual numbers :).

Thanks,

Dave.

will the 650d have usb3.0 on the front panel that can plug into the newer motherboards usb3.0 header? and if it does will there be some way to upgrade the 800d to have the same feature?

Final determination is still to be made on the internal header.

The 800D upgrade is just about ready and should be launching soon (within a couple weeks). Also, we've got an upgrade for the 800D SATA backplane that makes it SATA 6GB/s compatible.

Thank for the dimensions Redbeard, they seem good, fit under most desks (under 21'), perfect for a midtower.

1) What is the expected acoustic profile? How loud will it be at full throttle?
1a) Will you have dust filters, removable?
2) Do you have plans to install a side fan for GPU cooing? (would be nice if you had a pre drilled hole for that with a dust filter, no fan required, but the option to have one)
3) Will the hard drives have rubber grommets, what kind? From the side? or from the bottom (as in the hard drive is on the tray)
4) What is on the bottom below the hard drive cage?
5) Will the PSU have rubber standoffs both on the floor and on the back of the case (where the PSU is screwed in) to reduce vibrations?

Thank you

1) It's fairly quiet at full throttle, a bit louder than the 600T due to the faster fans, but still pretty quiet. The good news is that it's quieter than 600T when the fan controller is on low.
1a) Yes.
2) Looking into a mesh panel option that can be swapped out with the window.
3) From the side.
4) A plastic stand - that's empty underneath so you can shove PSU cables under there if you want.
5) Not on the back of the case, possible on the standoffs. I'll check into it - I haven't seen it lately. Even though I've never seen a PSU's "vibration" cause system noise (our fans are rubber mounted into the PSUs already) it's an easy enough thing to check.

Redbeard - just curious what the 800 upgrade consists of? Is it just making it Sata III ready or are there other new features in the upgrade?

They are standalone upgrades that will be sold separately on our website.

One is for USB 3.0 - it's just a new I/O panel with two USB 3.0 connectors for people who want to upgrade their existing 800D to USB 3.0. It's easily installed by just removing a few screws and re-doing some cable routing. This also fixes a few bugs we heard about from some people with "static" on the front panel with a headphone and mic attached.

The other is a replacement for the four individual SATA 2 backplanes. Again, just remove some screws, put the new single backplane on (with connections for four drives) and hook it back up to power, and the hot-swap bay will be compatible with SATA 3. This also fixes a timing issue some people had with older SATA drives where the drives would take too long to detect on boot and "drop out" occasionally.

Great news for those us that want to keep our 800Ds updated. Has the pricing been set?

Thanks Redbeard for the response.. nice to know I have an option to upgrade if needed.

Now to stop myself from buying this 650 when it comes out is another story... =P

I'm not familiar with this, but I had to ask. Will replacing the backplane affect my OS? My gut feel is "no", but it would be nice to have an official confirmation.

By the way, will Corsair ship these upgrades overseas? I'm from Singapore.

No, I believe the backplanes really just act as a pass-through.

I did some trouble-shooting and had to remove the backplanes at one point and went back and forth between having them installed and having direct wired connections and never lost my OS. It's just a connection from the motherboard to the HDD's...

Redbeard, will Corsair Link kits be sold on the website as well for the 650D and 800 once it is finalized?

2) Looking into a mesh panel option that can be swapped out with the window.

Oh, fantastic news! It's been really hard to give up my CM stacker due to the easy to install and perfectly placed side 120 intakes. This will probably do it for me.

Corsair Link kits will be sold in a lot of locations and will be fairly case independent. The LED light strips can be placed anywhere inside any case and programmed through software quite easily.

If the SATA backplane is really just a pass through how would it imped 3GB vs 6GB communication. The ports are backwards compatible unless there is some sort of chip on the backplane that is only rated for SATA 3GB. Has anyone actually tested a 6GB drive in the backplane to see if it negotiates at 3GB only?

If this is truly the case when can we expect to see this new back plane since I am planning a new Sandy Bridge build in March and would like the 800D's I just ordered today from Amazon to work with the new build. I don't care so much for the USB3 headers since I will be using the rear ports if I need USB3.

Redbeard, I couldn't find this answer elsewhere, so I thought I'd ask you. The 800 that was shown at CES, with the H60 installed into it, also there was some Dominator ram that had the fan assembly on-top of it, with some special small LED lights (like those old ram kits with the light on them to show activity). I am unable to find this product anywhere... is it something that is out right now? Or is it coming out as an add-on for the Corsair Link system?

Thanks!

With SATA 6GB/s drives the backplane operates very curiously - sometimes fine, sometimes at 3GB/s - sometimes not at all. By tweaking a few things electrically (such as shielding, power and signal traces, etc) we were able to provide an upgrade that works much more like the spec indicates.

This is also the case for a lot of SATA and SATA 2 cables - the SATA 3 drives and motherboards might show some of those cables to be sub-par.

Can the front 200mm intake fan of the 650D be replaced by dual 120/140mm fans similar to the top 200mm exhaust fan?

Redbeard,
I don't know if you've answered this already, but will there be a solid side panel option / separate order option for the 650D?

...Looking into a mesh panel option that can be swapped out with the window...
That would be perfect.

They only things I'd like to see would be an option for nice rubber wheels (like rollerblade things), a window that covers the entire side (not just a small portion), and maybe some very discreet handles.

Also, $200 seems a bit steep.

I wish I had more reasons to build a new rig, already have an 800D or else I would definitely get something like this.

Wow, I almost bought a Lian-Li case right after Christmas. Decided to wait until after CES, and I'm glad I did! The Corsair 650D is definitely going to be my next case. :D

i seriously LOLed at the guy saying its a masked 600T What do you thin a 700D is? I remember when the 800D came out and it had the Hot swap cage. I said to myself if they made one of those without the cage it would be the case for me. They came out with the 700D and i bought it.

Dont worry about the haters corsair. It means your doing something right.

Okay so more features for less money, right?

Got it!

For those worried about the price - the MSRP is $199 but that doesn't mean it'll be the street price you see on Amazon and Newegg and whatnot. MSRP of the H70 is $109 and it's routinely available for $90-$95, MSRP for the TX750 is $129 I think and it's on special for $99-$109 a lot.

Every day prices and sale prices will probably be lower than the MSRP.

The MSRP is fine Red. Unlike Silverstone that always sells at MSRP, retailers are willing to sell Corsair products under MSRP.
Volume sales may have a lot to do with it.

The rear button to open the side panel could have been a nice addition from the 800D.
I guess the internals would have needed to be reworked from the 600T. Redesign = Higher MSRP, I guess.

I honestly wish theyll do a top panel that lets you run a 360 in the drive bays...

I think the price is fine for what we are receiving. I mean, yeah, I am certainly going to have to find a way to budget for it, but I am in love. The 650D is awesome o_O

Looks nice. For some reason, it reminds me of a certain Silverstone case, but I cant put my finger on which..

Cool case, but for water the 800 still seems like the best way to go. I would totally get the 650 for a basic air setup though, I like the hard drive layout cooling which is usually an afterthought on many cases. I still wish there were sata 6 ports for my hotswap bay though.
