Here is a "leaked" video of someone playing games on the PlayStation phone. With all the awesome Android phones out there already, not to mention the iPhone, are any of you interested in this phone?

Phone's move so much faster than videogame platforms (for example the Xbox 360 was out for years already by the time the ORIGINAL iphone came out - you guys remember the cutting edge at the time - stylus based OS?) . If you buy into this you're limiting your choices for a long time in the future compared to just playing normal games on your iPhone/Android/webOS phone.

yes and no, so a maybe?

Gaming on touchscreens, multi-touch or not, is still painful at times. Especially when playing emulators available for free on the app stores, these 16/8 bit games were just not meant for touchscreens, this applies to all games that were originally released for consoles.

Problem is SE has a history of releasing great hardware, hampered by mediocre software, and poor update schedules on said software. I'm currently a xperia x10 user, so I know just how bad their software, and update schedule is.

For me to consider this phone, it needs to be released w/ gingerbread, and a promise of timely updates. The core smartphone functionality must be up to par (smooth performance, user friendly calls, sms, mms, email, calendar etc). They need to drop moxier apps, and timescape/mediascape, and other bloatware at the very least, if not replace them altogether w/ user friendly apps that handle the same functions (many free apps on android market would work)

One last thing, they need to not use a proprietary connection forcing people who want headphones w/ a built in mic to get SE branded accessories only..

Mobile tech is merging with the computer hardware industry, lots of overlap, as a result dedicated gaming devices from our favorite console makers, are just not going to cut it. (IMO)

I agree.

It will probably be a cool device, but I'll be sticking to my iphone (or eventually an android). Besides, knowing Sony, this thing will probably be pretty locked down compared to your average android smartphone.

Completely uninterested.

I have an iPhone 4 currently, and I think Android has matured enough that it will likely be my next phone (in 1.5 years when my contract expires)

I currently have no games on my phone. The only games I ever play are on my PC. Even if my phone were capable of playing console games, I wouldn't want to. Console games suck bigtime. Making it mobile only makes the experience worse. I have never once even been tempted to play anything on a PSP.

The only portable game device I've ever used was the first generation black and white game boy, and that was only because I was 8 years old at the time.

I see there being desire for this among kids though. Instead of both a phone and a PSP, here's a two in one. The question is, will it be affordable enough that parents will buy it for their kids?

If someone is a hardcore gamer, especially if that come with a console background, this phone will be a must have. It has real controls plus tilt function as seen in another video. Should have a huge library as well.
Funny that the games chosen were 4:3 when the screen is 16:9. Makes me wonder if there will be new content created, or if it will just be a smart-phone with a licensed PS emulator?

I have no interest but I can certainly see the appeal. Anyone who uses those portable game platforms should love it.

I think it will sell very well.

I have an Xperia X10 as well and I will never ever buy another sony phone.( or anything sony most likely) Sony just doesn't listen to its customers.

Yeah, that's the only way this gets into my household. I might buy it for my 12yr old, as a cellphone and to replace current PSP. Has got to be a decent price though, otherwise it just won't cut it.

It's just an android phone running a 3rd party emulator. The only plus is the game pad.

The galaxy S can run the PSP/PS1 emulator just fine, any tegra 2 phone/tablet should run it even better.

I don't think this is a PSP phone I think its just an android phone with a rom app like the nintendo rom managers. You can buy a plastic controler to go over a normal slide out keypad. I could be wrong but I can't see sony naming there app rom buddy.
To answer the question NO I would not buy ANYTHING from Sony.

I would imagine if they are officially marketing this as a SONY PSP phone, there will also be some way to either play the actual PSP discs or legally license digital copies of them from the Sony store.
