The gang at PC Perspective gave Rage HD the once over and they didn’t seem as impressed with the on-rails iOS shooter as everyone else seemed to be. Here’s a quote from the write up:

This game however seems to be more of a proof of concept for a bigger, more fleshed out version of mobile RAGE. While it works on the levels that a rail shooter needs to, there is definitely more to be desired, especially considering there are only 3 levels in the $1.99 (or $1 for the non-HD version) download.

I downloaded the HD version and while I understand that the shooter itself is short, it was an enjoyable experience more so than other FPS on the ipad/ios. The levels provided do have different difficulty settings and have a high score/grading that gives those levels some replay value. For me it was 2 dollars well spent.

I like the game, but there's just something not quite right about the controls for it...and I'm not blaming the touch pad. I think I just don't like how they have the buttons arranged.
Plus, it's tough to complain about $2.
I honestly really like the iPhone pricing model of having games that would normally sell for $5-10 being out there for $1-2. I think the devs are seeing that work, too. It's easy to drop $2 here and there and millions of people are happy to do it without complaint.

When I saw the article at first glance, I thought AMD was bring back an old video card line :p

Laziness is rampant in the gaming industry today. Everyone is releasing cookie-cutter games. Where the effort?

Dear id,

Quit the iPhone bullshit and deliver a real game and not a novelty.
id currently has two teams in addition to the mobile team, headed up by John's wife, Anna Kang. I find it doubtful work on Rage Mobile hindered progress on the other two projects they're working on (Rage and Doom IV) in any meaningful way.

Well hopefully the end result will be worth the wait.

Well, to be honest, the point of this post is that PC Perspective said what tons of other people didn't have the balls to...they are cashing in on a tech demo:

Didn't John Carmack start off stealing crApples? He was never right in the head...

Hopefully the proper rage is decent. I've been missing ID games. The PC games market is necrosisly stagnent. Need a cure for the endless Call of Bore.

After reading "Masters of Doom" all it said was his parents wouldn't buy him an Apple II but he knew the rich school in the area had them so he helped some kids break in (who were stealing other stuff) so he could get an Apple II... :p

He was stealing it so he could program, not for any real financial gain. Yea it was wrong but I still see the logic behind it. They also "borrowed" computers from their first job (Romero, Carmack and a few others) so they could program on the weekends. They never asked permission but nobody was using them on the weekends anyways, so they'd load them up in their cars Friday nights and bring them back Sunday night.

Why do people blame carmack so much, it's not like he designed the games themselves, he just programmed the engine to run it... right? In this case, I think carmack always delivers the goods, doom3 was a great, solid, engine. My guess is the designers aren't challenging carmack enough, which is why he tends to do it himself by trying to program cellphones and do rocket science.

When I saw this, I thought they were bringing back the Rage 3D brand. :)
