So, who's pulled the trigger on the 580, already being a 480 owner?

If you made/are going to make the move, why?

If you haven't and don't plan to, why?

Just curious as to what prompted the decision for so many already seeming to jump on the 580, even before [H]'s review is up.

Moving from 480 SLI to 580 SLI. I can afford it. So, why not? Would like to see a performance increase. As long as NVidia can fix/implement good SLI drivers.

I do have some issue's with my dual Dell 3009W setup running past 1600x1200. So would like to see some extra frames in my gaming PC. Will move 480 SLI to system with 460 SLI. And then either get ride of X-Fire 5850 setup on another gaming rig or something.

Will be doing the same for 6970s to replace 5870 2gb setup. That system is using 3 Samsun 24" LCDs atm. But want to go 6 screens for my Driving & Flying Games.

Going from 3x 480 SLI to 3x 580 SLI, all ordered now. Just wanted a little more performance out of 3D Surround.

I would have thought those who could afford 2x480 would move to the GTX 580 for the performance but mainly quietness and lower temps. I would.

not worth it imo, nothing I can't play now. Maybe when update occurs, I'll think about it.

Moving from 2x GTX 470 SLI to 1x GTX 580, might go for a 2nd soon though... I want the quietness & new toy :D. Would love some extra performance with a 2nd though!

There's just no point for me to upgrade:

1. I can OC both my 480s well past a stock 580
2. I already have my 480s waterblocked so sound and temps is not an issue
3. For the relatively small amount of time I game on them, I'm not really worried about the extra power
4. A card that costs $70 more than I originally bought my 480s for ($570 vs. $500), is 7 months newer, has no new features, and only performs 15% better is a pretty pathetic proposition

I can afford it no sweat, but sometimes common sense needs to prevail.

Edit: This question may be in the realm of being way too early, but would a 480 waterblock work on a 580? I was comparing the PCBs and the screw holds look to be the exact same placement....

It's $500 actually, mwave has it for $485, newegg has a 10% off code ($50 off of the 560 asking). Comparing watercooled GTX 480's to stock 580's is kinda silly though... you could get further (and by the way it's 20%+ per the further early reviews) on clocks probably as well if you watercooled a 580 (which oc's to 925+, I've seen one review with 950 already, on stock cooling).

Not doing it because this time around... it's just plain not worth it. 280 to 480, yeah... 480 to 580 for more money @ not-so-much gain? No.

+1
I'm still loving my two 480GTXs watercooled with DD blocks, and have been since their release. Sure the 580s would be a small improvement, but gonna stand pat right now.

For those upgrading to 580s, hats off.

Not worth it, its only like 10% faster in most games, however the lower heat and power consumption is an improvement, but its still not worth moving over to the GTX 580 if you have the GTX 480 already. Curious about NVIDIA's dual card, if they have one coming shortly.

Thinking about it because of the heat output improvements. But really wanting until inflated prices drop. The 6970 release should knock them down to normal levels.

Im still interested to see some good overclocks, from what i saw its doing very well, a lot of the time showing a 20% improvement at stock, i can only speculate the large overclocking gains.

Newegg status: Shipped, tracking # is in my inbox :D. ETA 11/10/2010... is it tomorrow yet?

Ordered directly from eVGA. Loved the performance of the 480, hated the heat / noise in the summer.

I've got a 5970 now. I'm waiting to see what AMD's next high end card landscape looks like comparatively before I switch to anything.

Sticking with my dual 480s. Like a couple others, I already have them water cooled and heavily OC'd. Messing with my water loop would be a huge pain in the ass right now too.

Well I am, but only because EVGA is awesome and a step-up is gonna cost me all of $26.

Im on a 5870 right now, if there is any chance that my current water block will fit the new AMD card, Ill go that route..if I need to buy a new block, I'll go 580 this time around ..

I skipped the 480 since it would have been a downgrade from my 2x 285s. I think now I'll sell my 285s for a 580 after a few weeks when the supplies meet demand and prices come down a tad.

Same here. Skipped the 4xx series and plan to move from 285s to 5xx something. Still hoping for an x2 variant.

Running at 2560x1600 I am very tempted to SLI 580s, but my system overall is almost 3 years old and I think I'll just save money and build a new system next year with Kepler, or whatever manufacturer has the fastest card. :D

Same on all accounts. Nice that evga is selling direct at msrp.

(Anyone want a 480 superclocked?) :D
