And here I thought my Galaxy S was the greatest thing since sliced bread

* A 2GHz Processor. Possibly the next-generation version of Samsung’s Hummingbird CPU.
* 1GB RAM along with 4GB of ROM. This is, as with the CPU, twice the magnitude of current-gen hardware.
* 32GB built-in flash memory. MicroSD card slot expandable to 32GB making the Galaxy S2 able to hold 64GB of data.
* 8 megapixel camera with full HD (1920×1080) video recording. Current-gen smartphones record video at 720p (1280×720).
* A 4.3” 1280×720 Super AMOLED display
* GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, b/g/n Wi-Fi, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity / ambient light sensors.
* Run on Android 3.0 “Gingerbread”

The phone physically looks incredible, but I am having a hard time believing those specs!

Wow... I haven't paid attention to the recent round of smart phones but that thing is uncomfortably close to my laptop specs. Good thing I'm giving it away, I'll cling to my desktop I guess.

No mention of a FFC, although I see that is it there on the CGI mockup.

Also, battery life? That thing better have some monstrous 70,000 mAh battery or something. This downward trend sucks.

It's not gonna be 2ghz, maybe a 1ghz dual core (some places incorrectly call this 2ghz), but not 2ghz.

The resolution seems unlikely too. (I have heard that sammy is one of the suppliers of the retina, that would be a funny card for them to pull)

wonder what the battery life is gonna be. :D for real and not estimated

what carrier will this one be for?

Love the utilitarian look (like my Evo). If only this were true... and headed for Sprint... Oh well.

This thing better have some amazing battery life. I love my Samsung Galaxy, but hot damn does it burn through its battery.

Wonder if the GPS will actually work out of the box or if it'll take them months to fix it in software this time.

does it have flash and lights
gps is overrated
no need on cell
everyone got gps already that is why samsung didn't care

They forgot the last bullet point...

  • Battery life is 2 hours as long as you don't touch it (or look in its general direction).

Is this like some kind of haiku bot? All his posts are the same.

In any case...
The implementation of a GPS chip isn't only for directions, it's used in a lot of apps for geolocation and tagging.

Pretty bad photoshop but a phone of that design would get me interested as long as it has the rounded edges on the side like on the Captivate (makes it feel soooo much more thinner). Specs like these have surfaced before (http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-ga...z-720p-super-amoled-display-and-more-0592814/) and I'm having a hard time believing it since anybody can "double" up on hardware and call it a rumor.

Nicely done. Yeah the rumored specs did surface this summer right after the debut of the Galaxy S in the USA. However, there are been nothing since then. It seems clear that much like in the desktop/laptop cpu arena mobile cpus will move towards multi-cores rather than merely chasing higher clocks.

2GHZ proc
Kills battery life
4.3"LCD
also kills it quick

Smart phones are quite cool
I can surf at work
unless my boss is watching
that would really suck

Hmm.. if those are the actual specs, then I hope they release a folding client for Android, LOL.

Something like that would be a huge step up from my Droid. The phones that'll be out during my upgrade period next year seem like they're going to be crazy.. until the next 6 months - year, I'm sure. This shit is worse than PC parts, new/faster hardware coming out literally every 6-12 months while it takes us at least 18-24 months to get a new CPU architecture out (been on i7s for over 2 years now).

if this thing is not vapor hardware, it would be a perfect upgrade to my slow ass iphone 3g

Makes me wonder how long I will keep my Droid X. Just got my Droid X too right after my iPhone 4. Wow I am a phone whore go figure.

I went from an iPhone to a Galaxy S in August and I'm wondering the same thing. HTC came out a few months ago and said they're on the verge of major hardware changes early next year and even Samsung has a big announcement Nov 8th which leaves me wondering if I'll be with my Vibrant much longer.

Haha yea, I have a huge problem with buying phones, iPhone 3GS, HD2, Evo, iPhone 4, and the Droid X all in this year, and the year hasnt ended yet.

If this is true I wonder how long it will take for Samsung to drop any and all support for the current gen phone.

I'm cool with the Vibrant....

I have a Captivate right now and my biggest gripe is that it doesn't use flash memory for the main storage. I have used the stock rom on it, cognition, and a few others and every time it just lags like crazy after a little bit of use. This could be due to the file system that Samsung chose to go with, but still....

I ended up going back to my iPhone 3GS just because it's so much faster than my captivate after a day of use. Flash makes all the difference.

If the new Galaxy S2 uses flash, I'll certainly switch back. For now though, guess I'll ebay my captivate.

Next year will be a good time for me. My work is taking away our Iphones so I will be back to using my own cell phone. Come March I will need a new phone.

God I hope cell phones don't try to add 1080p recording this next year. The 720p implementations are shoddy enough, why don't they work on those and actually make them worthwhile?

I also agree that it probably won't be a 2ghz single core, as many of the phone manufacturers have already talked about using the Tegra 2 architecture (LG said it will have a dual core phone out before year end). If I remember the press releases correctly, they were saying the dual cores were supposedly not much worse on the battery than a single core 1ghz. But we all know how accurate press releases are.....

LG press release:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3892/...rtphones-to-feature-nvidia-tegra-2-in-q4-2010

ARM website on A9 cpu, which is in the tegra 2. Hit the Performance tab for power efficiency info:
http://www.arm.com/products/processors/cortex-a/cortex-a9.php

If this Samsung does indeed have dual core then it will probably use their Orion chip:

Probably the same press releases that claim AMOLED and S-AMOLED screens will actually save power over TN/IPS screens. :(

(Sure it'll save power... if you stare at a completely black screen all day.)

I find it hard to believe these specs, no matter how much I want it to become true. It just seems too big of a step compared to the other phones coming out 1H '11. Who knows though..maybe we will be blown away..

Yeah, I have a real hard time believing those specs. I mean, maybe if this is 2 years out or something, but AFAIK there is no 2GHz mobile processor out for use (right?)

It literally looks like someone just doubled the galaxy s specs to make the "galaxy s2" specs:

GALAXY S..........GALAXY 2S
1GHZ..................2GHZ
16GB..................32GB
4MP...................8MP

Hi guys, you should check out the article's sources. Its quoting something from

05 July 10

This rumors been around and its been pretty hard for me to believe all this time.
I thought I'd just put that into perspective before you get all waffly over a rumor.
