The 1090T processor looks so darn good that I finally want to take the plunge and upgrade. Was also thinking about the new 890 chipsets for motherboards.

Unfortunately, I have a pair of GTX285s and I don't plan on moving over to Xfire configs ever. Am I SOL?

Which motherboard do you guys recommend I go with for future proofing with new tech like USB 3.0, etc? Thanks

Yup you're SOL and JWF if you want a X6 CPU and SLI. The latest Nvidia chipset, the 980a, does not support the Phenom X6 CPUs right now, at least according to the CPU Support list for Asus 980A mobo.

If you can drop the SLI requirement, the 890GX chipset is a good choice.

yeah your pretty much sol.. the nvidia 980a really isnt that great of a chipset since its just a rebranded 780a which is pretty much a 750a with one extra feature that i cant remember..

probably the very first version you see on asus's site.. rarely do you see retail boards sold with updated bios.. but the x6 should still work.. it will just show up as an unknown processor til you update the bios..

Actually, 980a DOES support X6 and SLI. I bought the 1055t and Asus M4N98TD-EVO and everything worked out of the box, no BIOS update needed.

interesting.. did you check to make sure it was correctly identified and not shown up as an unknown processor?

Yes, upon first boot it was shown as "AMD Phenom II X6 1055t Processor" or whatever
