sorry if this is a silly topic but I am thinking about making the switch to consoles but the game prices have really put me off from doing so. I dont mind paying 300 bucks for a console but 60 bucks for a game that will be on sale for 30 or even 20 bucks on the pc in less than a year has kept me on the pc. saving 30-40 bucks on 15-20 games a year really adds up.

surely there has to be cheaper way to get console games. so is there some place on line that has good sales or discounts?

On consoles, take advantage of the fact that you can trade games in, or even borrow games from friends. Services like Goozex can get you shipping out a $60 dollar game, and getting a equivalent priced game in return with only the shipping charge.

Buying: Amazon > Goozex (if you have something to trade) > Ebay > Gamestop

Selling: Ebay > Goozex > Amazon > Gametop

Although this is just my personal opinion, and isn't ALWAYS true. Although I just did some major trading and selling on Goozex, you need to check various sites for prices if you don't, you're not doing your own due diligence.

One of the major pros/cons with Goozex however, is that their "points" system doesn't correlate to real world prices, rather some supply/demand stuff. So many games times games that are more expensive than others, are worth less points. But if you have games to trade in, you can often times get equal money in points for another item that you are more interested in.

Keep an eye on the CAG forums. They're always posting up some good deals. If you're willing to buy used, places like secondspin.com and gohastings.com usually offer some good (20% off and so on)coupon codes from time to time.

I think console gaming ends up being cheaper since you can trade the games in. Amazon not only sell games with good deals (Bad Company 2 comes with a $20 video game credit right now as one example), you can also send your played games in for credit. If you buy a game with a discount / promo and then trade it in within a reasonable time frame, things start looking real pricey!

Amazon is the place I go to for games now. I have sent them games for trade in 3 times and all but one of the games I have purchased since getting a PS3 have been from Amazon. Between everything, I would say my average final cost of a new game is around $25

If you just want to hoard a huge pile of console games you never play and not look for deals, yeah it gets expensive to play on a console.

For multiplayer games i'll spend 60 bux easy... like Modern Warfare for example.... hours and hours and hours of entertainment.

But single player games i usually get through in a couple days so i'd just rent those.

gamefly.

20 bucks a month gets you two games out at a time, as long as you play through 4 games a year, it pays for itself. (240/60 = 4)

Usually Amazon.com has the best prices for new games. There is also another company that has great prices (especially PC games) but we can't mention them here.

I also like using Google Shopping to just have all the prices listed in one search.

gohastings.com is supposed to be really good for used games. They occasionally have 30% off deals or B2G1. I haven't tried them yet.

Except it's clinically insane to buy games for $60. I like to wait until games drop to around $20 or less. By that time, the gaming community has created awesome mods, and the developer has patches out.

So 240/20 = 12

yeah what does [H] have against them?

they are stepping it up with console game deals recently.

That company violated [H] rules by posting their own advertising on the forums without prior contact to Kyle.

This. Only be aware that while you will pay less because of all the great deals, you will spend more and amass a ridiculous backlog because you will get so many great deals. I used to try to save money by buying used, but staying on top of the deals at CAG I get more games for my money and they're usually brand new.

One example... I got Halo 3 Legendary Edition (the one with the helmet) brand new for $19.99 + $3 shipping.

That's not even the best deal I've got thanks to that site.

costco is not bad. seems to be about 4-5 bucks cheaper than other brick and mortar stores....

A lot of the mid-level titles that make me raise an eyebrow, but aren't really worth $60, I generally pick up used. Gamefly does multiple used game sales throughout the year, and one big end of the year sale with free shipping where you can almost always pick up some hot titles from earlier in the year at insane prices.

examples: I picked up RE5 for 12.99; NFS:Undercover $9.99; Ghostbusters for $9.99 and Riddick for $7.99 all in December of 09.

Gohastings normally does a used sale every month or so, and sometimes will have an additional 20-30% off. Fair warning, their site gets HAMMERED due to the slickdeals effect, so it's hard to check out from time to time.

Shipping is very reasonable. I picked up 16 games for $87 shipped on the last run. Granted a lot of them are shit, but they were $4 or $5 averaged out. Some gems like Condemned 2, Iron Man, Quantum of Solace, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, and Armored Core 4 (and Bionic Commando for $3.00, lol, still wrapped)

I'll play them throughout the year, loan them to friends and then put the lot of them on Ebay, which has always netted me a profit. People tend to bid funny on big lots of games, even if they suck.

I have also picked up a ton of blu-ray movies through gohastings for between $3 and $5 a piece.
