The Next Chapter of Eve: Dominion

Welp, NOD32 is ignoring the entire game file for EVE and still, no working IGB :(

Oh well.....

Tried reinstalling eve?
Or disabling NOD32 alltogether...just to see?

Works fine here:

Im not too worried about it. I figure, since im not the only one with the problem, it will get fixed.....sometime.

No, havent reinstalled. Not going to either, heh. <---Murphy is my roommate and when I go to doing stuff like that, he always screws around with it and makes it worse. :)

Ive been curious about Eve for awhile and just jumped into a 14 day trail. I haven't played many MMOs (just SWG Pre CU) and after maybe an hour or so (been busy the last 4 days) I'm not sure about it... It seems so big and so over my head. It just feels like it will take me forever to grasp the game.

Idk.. I want to play the game, love the concept and how its only 1 server... just dont know where to turn. Any suggestions for a novice?

I've been playing for about 20 days now and you're right, there is a steep learning curve. However, once the basic game mechanics become second nature to you, then you'll be able to see a lot of the depth EVE has to offer. Wait for that point, and then decide if it's the game for you.

I'll be honest, I did a lot of reading and not a lot of playing for a while, but it will payoff. Also, I said "what the hell" a couple of times and ventured out just to see what happens in different areas of space. Maybe not the wisest decision, but it was a free trial and it's meant for you to see if the game is fun for you or not.

Soooo....Scanning down wrecks. Yeah, Yeah, I know, Ninja Salvaging. Alot of people do not like this, however, it is all part of the game and being as such, I like to dabble around and learn the different aspects of the game. I doubt it would be something I would do forever and a day, but it is something I would like to at least know the mechanics of how its done.

For the past few days now, this has been my main focus. Not so much to become a Ninja profiteer, but the practice it would give me with my scanning. <---Eventually, my goal is to become a solo pirate, so the more practice I get, the better I become at scanning down things.

The problem Im having is that I cant scan down a wreck to save my life. Scanning down a ship, no problem. Scanning down some "site", again, no real problems there either. Scanning down wrecks...WTF? I spent over 6hrs last night trying to do this but I just cant seem to get it.

My scanning/probing skills are, I would say, average. I have the main skills and those are trained up to at least Level 3. Im using combat probes, not the Sisters type though (1.5mil each = ouch).

I go to a safe spot (in high sec, remember im just practicing) and then I click the scanner @ 360 and set the distance to all 9's (which as you guys know, defaults down to 2,147,000,000km or 14.7au). I look for Large Wrecks on the scanner and find them. I then start to scan at 180 degrees, then 90 etc etc down to 15 degrees so as to narrow down where these wrecks would be located at. Then I click on the ingame map browser and it shows me which direction my scan was facing. I look around at where im located in relation to where I think the wrecks are located.

I then send out a combat probe, set it to about 16au. This is where things start to faulter with finding the wrecks.

I will get ships on the probe scan. I will get "Drone and Probe" on the probe scan and I will get "Structure" on the probe scan. The structures always end up being some turret or something. Drone and Probes always end up being, well, a Drone and Ships, well, you get the picture.

I have yet been able to find a wreck using these probes. I can scan down a WH in less than 10min (which may sound like a long time, but for me, it used to take me 45min, so thats an improvment) so I do know how to probe for things and understand the concept. I just can not seem to find any wrecks.

What am I missing? Would using the Sisters probes really help me "that" much? I have noticed that the smaller the "item" is that your scanning for, the more difficult it is to get a warpable signature. Took quite a long time for me to get a lock on a drone. But wrecks dont show up at all. At least not that Im aware of.. i.e. they are not being announced to me that they are "wrecks".

When using the scanner and you see it labled "Mission Generic Large Wreck" and then you send out a probe to probe it down for a warp signature, is it still called a "Mission Generic Large Wreck"? Or, is it reclassified once probed into the catagory of "Structure"? I ask that cause there was a shit load of "structure" labels when I probed, but they are all called "structure" with no other detail and I do mean a SHIT LOAD of them. If wrecks are indeed classified under this name when you probe, how the hell do you sort out which are wrecks and which are not? Would I really have to scan down each and every one just to find what I was looking for?

Im just making an assumption here, so forgive me for possibly making asses out of us :), but I assume that at one point during you guys' early EVE days, you too tried your hand at Ninja Salvaging. How did YOU find them?

What am I doing wrong?

The only other way I can think of to get to the bottom of this is to Ninja my own wrecks. Go do a mission, bookmark some wrecks so I know exactly where they are at, then go thru the whole scan and probe procedure and see if I can find my own wreck.

Anyone got any tips? I promise, I wont take any of YOUR stuff, lol. I'll shadow some people from Meat Sausage Express and Ninja their stuff instead, hehehe. <----bastards shooting at newbs.....they'll get whats comin to 'em.

Unless they have changed it, wrecks will not show up using probes. You have to scan down the ship running a mission, warp to them, then bookmark their wrecks. You can ninja in front of them, or come back later when they are done(if they don't salvage it themselves).

SAW, you can't probe down wrecks. The best way to do it is to probe down drones or the player ships. I prefer probing down drones as that means I'm unlikely to end up in Recon 3/3 and a certain death to the probing ship.

Ahhh Haaaa!!!! Mann, all the hours and not finding one, gahhh. I actually had thought this might be the case but wasnt sure. But, that kinda seemed contradictory to actually "Ninja-ing" wrecks..at least from what I thinking. I mean, the whole idea is to do it stealthfully and not have the wrecks owner know what your doing, so to probe down a ship and then warp to it to bookmark the wrecks kinda seemed like the wrong way of doing it. So, i guess thats what thru me off.

Thanks for the info guys :)

ninja-ing is for wusses, gank his ass and take his shit, thats the eve way

There will no doubt, be a time that I actually do what your saying. For now though, it not about getting the loot really, its more about the art of pulling it off unseen that Im interested in. To be able to warp into someone's mission unseen, unnoticed and sit there and watch them while they finish up their mission then leave, all without ever knowing I was there...To me, now thats cool. Thats why Im interested in Ninja-ing. Its a good skill to have in this game and will serve me well once I do go down to low-sec.

As ive mentioned before on several occasions, there are some pirates out there to which I owe vengence to and they are going to collect, sooner or later. I have it all worked out in my mind, hehe. Im going to hunt them down, one by one. Once I find out where they are usually hanging around at, then, im going to stalk them and watch them, see what they do, see if they have a certain habit I can exploit. See if they are dumb enough to do the exact same thing, over and over again. Yeahh...Yeahhh....YEAHHHH.....thats right.....and then, I will be waiting for them. Oh Yes......there will be blood.

good plan although most pirates are fairly experienced pvper and they tend to do thing in groups or have back up nearby. i would recommend bring some friends of your own when the time comes. and who knows if your stalking would yield any results but patience is an absolute must in eve.
actually i remember when they changed the scanning mechanic I all of sudden had idiots warping to my mission and just taking my loot while i was there, i could've shot them but i was almost certain they were baiting me and didn't wanna loose my shiny pwnmobile i use to grind isk. you're doing this ninja training in low sec right?

1.0.2 patch notes said:
EVE Voice, Mail, Browser & Chat

If a bookmark file was corrupted prior to the Dominion expansion it could cause the new browser to not load. The corrupt file will now be ignored.

[edit] lol

It was possible to warp to a fleet member while docked in station. Docking bay walls have been reinforced to remove this option.

[edit] Minnies get another coat of rust. :p

Do the fleet panes go away when you dock? Or maybe accepting an invite while docked brings (or brought) them up--seems more likely.

I was playing around with remaps on my alt yesterday and noticed that bumping the skills up from 19-20 (or 20-21) actually raised the value by 2 (so 19-21 or 20-22 cost one attribute point). I don't understand where that bonus point comes from but it does help explain why my 2nd account has a higher overall number of attribute points than my main.

Looking for a n00b friendly corp - I mine, I do have ships that I can PVE with, but I'm mining while learning. I am 22 days away from being able to use my barge. I have a hauler and a couple of frigates, I played the game for a month or two and then stopped. I've recently started back up and am looking for an active corp that doesn't mind well-meaning newbs who while they do not spend every waking moment in game, will be there if there's stuff to do.

Try Eve University.

Sorry that joining my corp didn't work out. I know what happened, can't share details, but we're still recovering from the fallout of that corp breaking up. I agree with the suggestion to try Eve University. People seem to learn a lot from them.

Good luck and fly safe.

hahahaha....I knew it had to be something on their end. Glad to hear they got it working again and they seemingly are on top of things. I remember other MMO's, it would take months before they would fix something and then, usually, it still wouldnt work the way it was supposed to.

The attribute list doesn't show the decimal point, nor does it round up, just chop it off.

When it displayed 20 it's actually 20.9, when you add 1 point, it adds 1.1 as you get 10% from learning level 5.

Cool beans, makes total sense and I'm going to assume the learning times reflect the real value and not the rounded values.

Oh so that's what it is! My client wouldn't update to the new patch... and then I couldn't get to eveonline.com... started to get worried I wouldn't get my EVE fix tonight.

Well, if its similar to the other night, should only be a half hour.

EDIT: Our SQL Server failed over. We estimated the server to be back up at 3:15 UTC - From login screen in eve

I found out today that two of my good friends used to play this game.

I have to ask, after thinking about Eve for a long time and being an X3 player (basically Eve Offline, even the music sounds the same)...why doesn't Eve have a first person cockpit view? Why is it 3rd person?

Because it's more strategy oriented. Think of the way the Star Trek Enterprise fights compared to how they fight in Star Wars. It's more directing your ship then manually flying it.

IGB works fine now and it seems to be pretty darn quick too. I like it. Was weird viewing the [H] from inside the game, heh.

Now, if only the jukebox would continue to play more than one song at a time....hehehe

Despite the improvements to the jukebox, it's still woefully inadequate to replace having a decent player like Winamp running in the background. Not all my music is .mp3.

It's a shame, though: the jukebox can detect when you enter a deadspace mission and pump up the music accordingly. In addition to vastly improved file-type support, I wouldn't mind seeing the jukebox change for a larger variety of "settings" like: combat, autopilot, mining, in-station, etc. Or alternatively, maybe these things could be exposed via API and let more robust media players hook into that.

Been doing a shit load of probing lately....well, moreso than usual. Ive scanned 100's (or so it seems) of times and found numerous WH's n stuff. Believe it or not though, I had never found a RADAR site before....untill last night :) Was so thrilled about the outcome (profit) that I sent several of you guys an ingame message. haha, you know when something really cool happens, you want to tell people about it.
So now, im telling my [H] gang about it too :):)

I know there is alot to be said about the EVE forums......but ya know.....you dig around long enough, you can actually find some very useful information. Anyways.....

I didnt even have to go down into low or null sec to find the radar site either. Was in a .6 system. Found some very cool loot there adding up to nearly 30mil. Went to the system next door which was a .7 system and found a Magnetometric site which ended up giving me another 12mil.

Finding the sites, killing the rats (which were only some frigs and destroyers, all killed using only 3 drones :) ) and looting, I spent perhaps an hour, give or take. 42mil in ONE hour and in high-sec of all places. Not too bad.

Wanna know the secret, hehehe......

Get the hell away from everyone else. Use the star map, click the setting for "# of people in system", find one thats grey and away from everything else.

Boooyaaaa!!!!

Gotta love it....

FW is imho totally busted, but I am still considering to join with an alt just to rack up some easy LP.

Oh it's a total money sink. But it's fun! I enjoy it just because it allows me some pvp without committing to changing my surroundings too much.

I think I'm about to bite and finally try Eve after fighting the temptation for months. I have a week and a half off of work so now seems like a good time. My co-worker/friend has it on Steam and loves it. Which method is the best way to try the 14 day trial, Steam, Impulse, Direct from the publisher, etc and get the updates the fastest and payment is easy? My friend said Steam tends to be a few days late on getting the updates.

Either get your friend to send you a trial invite or I can send one too you. It is a 21 day trial instead of the 14 day one they normally have.

I suggest getting it on steam right now cause it is on sale for $5 if you decide to purchase it. Once you have downloaded the game you don't need steam to launch it anymore and it will update when you try and login (if there is an update to download).

I've bought my version on steam and have had no problems.

Like I said if you are interested in a longer trial let me know. If you decide to get the game I'll throw you some isk (in game money) since I would get a free month for using the buddy system.

Either way hope you enjoy the game, it is a bit overwhelming at first but so great.

I do suggest downloading the evemon app to help you out with skills and eve fitting tool to setup your ships, though both of those will be over your head at the start, it is good to mess around and learn from them still :D

i started playing it almost a week ago.
been training a lot

would love to find some people to play around with on there :)

If i purchase this through steam (since its 5 bucks) when does my 30 days begin? from date of purchase?
I don't want to install this until a few weeks, when I have more time to play.

Is there an [h] corp? and is it active?
[H] Corp has been dissolved.

Well if you don't mind using Ventrillo, I can recommend a corp full of new players for you to talk to. Currently down in null-sec so can't pay with ya :(.

It's from date of purchase IIRC. And thank you for making me aware of the $5 deal. Gonna go get an alt now :)

I guess my next question is, can I use the steam version to play on my macbook with eve's mac client? I'm sure I can, just wondering.

I guess my next question is, can I use the steam version to play on my macbook with eve's mac client? I'm sure I can, just wondering.

I would say yes because I've used different Eve accounts with my Steam Eve client that were setup on other Steam accounts. So basically: your account info is not tied to the client or steam itself. So you should be able to use Eve's Mac client just fine with the account you paid for on Steam.

Roliath, get a 21day buddy invite / trial off someone (...i'm here to help :) pm is your friend ). Activate account using that code sent on email and start playing via normal download (which should avoid any MAC/Steam issues)

Buy EVE via steam for $5... when installing, cancel the steam install (or go to manage games, option in there) - it then takes you to the EVE website for activation and gives option of choosing Existing Eve account or create new account, select the former, use your existing account name, and voila 51days for $5, which is an awesome deal.

Note to existing users, this can only be used to activate trial accounts, doesn't work on already active accounts - but $10 for 60days for your main if you do it right isn't too shabby at all.

I think they shortened the period buddy invites could be held for in the last patch, now 2 weeks or something, but the steam thing can be paid for now and then activated at a later date, anytime before the trial ends and the gametime gets added.
