Anyone else see a problem with this?

Its OOS and the priced went to that weird number when it went OOS. Probably just something with an automated inventory-pricing system I would think.

Dear OfficeMax Customer,

Early Sunday morning, a few items were briefly displayed on the OfficeMax website with incorrect prices that were inadvertently generated by an automated pricing program.

As is standard practice by all national retailers, OfficeMax disclaims offers from typographical errors. Your order xxx included item number 22133816, a Toshiba 500GB USB 2.0 Port External Hard Drive, which is an item that was inadvertently shown with an incorrect price.

The correct retail price of the Toshiba 500GB USB 2.0 Port External Hard Drive is $149.99. This product was incorrectly shown with a price of $39.99.

Because the incorrect pricing is a typographical error and not a valid offer from OfficeMax, all orders relating to the incorrect price have been cancelled. This includes your order noted above.

It is important that you know that this cancellation also affects any additional products that were part of that order. No products included as part of that order are being processed for transaction or delivery.

While we deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause, we ask that you either log on to OfficeMax.com or contact customer service to reorder any of the items from the above referenced order.

If you have questions about this cancelled order, please call customer service at 1-877-OfficeMax. Again, we do regret any inconveniences this may cause.

Sincerely,

OfficeMax Customer Service

Canceled :(.

LOL: The correct retail price of the Toshiba 500GB USB 2.0 Port External Hard Drive is $149.99.

Total BS. $100 sounds about right and that's exactly what they listed it as. $100 on sale for $40. Whatever, that was my first experience with Office Max and it will certainly be my last.

Funny how people keep posting thinking they can still get in on this "deal". This thread should be locked.

Canceled.

What? What did they do wrong to you? $149.99 is full MSRP, they just quoted that. It was a pricing mistake and their TOS say they dont have to honor it (like most online stores). They didnt charge you or make you run through any BS. No reason to be mad at all.

If you want it for $100, it is online at plenty of other stores for that or less.

I love how people try and take advantage of a store and then its all good, but as soon as they turn around and dont honor a mistake or something they slam them. There was a guy over at slickdeals that orded like 15 of them, and I bet there were others as well.

:D, yeah, if someone here posted an i7 in a FS thread for $90 and missed putting a 1 in there (a typo), then saw it and went to change it to what it really was supposed to be there's no way in hell they would honor that price if someone saw it right away and called dibs...

lol and shit...

now lets get all the "i hate OfficeMax" and "Never shopping at OfficeMax again" out of our system. Isn't it customary to grill the retailer for sticking to their TOS, like BestBuy and that tv they had a while back...:D people just amaze me sometimes!!

Heaven forbid someone makes a typing mitsake...

Yeah, I got canceled too... kind of surprised actually since this wasn't that spectacular a deal. Still, LOL @ "price error" bull, they only canceled them because too many people ordered... it's not like it was $9.99 instead of $99.99 :p . Always cracks me up when stores claim that... I've had other great deals from OM go through but I never posted them since this happens when someone does ;). Simple "is cost greater than advertised price" logic in their software prevents any serious errors in any case I would hope.

i hate OfficeMax never will do business with them ever again.....

$40 actually sounded like a legitimate deal. I don't know who in the hell would pay $149 or even $100 for this. I hate the "not responsible for typographical errors" crap. If you go into the store and it's priced wrong they have to give it to you at that price (or so I've been told by people in stores), but if it's in ad or online it's like, "Ooops."

$40 was a bit low even on a deal for a 2.5" newer model (had a SATA drive supposedly) 500gb external HDD. That is why it was so crazy at SDs.

Keep in mind this same model goes for $85-$100 everywhere else right now. Maybe around $55-$65 would be a hot deal, this was an insane deal at $40 and clearly below cost.

It's not a pricing mistake at all, not when they had the actual price listed right there when you ordered it, which was $100, not the lie that is $150.

"Normally $100, on sale for $40! Here's how much you save!"

And then you add in the fact that yet another Hard Drive, the 640GB, was seeing a similar sale, advertising the normal price and then the sale price and also quoting the savings.

You can believe they somehow incorrectly priced two different drives for similar savings, advertising the actual price the entire time, and swallow their obvious lie, but I'm going to choose to do otherwise.

I also think it's funny that the drive was $40, and a lot of people ordered filler items up to $10 to get free shipping. I wonder, did they cancel those items in your order as well?

So they cant make a pricing mistake on a sale price

I dont really understand what you are meaning. They could have easily made a price mistake on the discount. Plus they already said it was an issue with the automated pricing system. Probably just got entered wrong for a discount on those toshiba drives (there also was a cheaper one like a 320 or something that was on sale). Mistakes happen, and they gained nothing by having people place these orders but a headache.

They said they canceled the entire orders, said it right in the email....so they made nothing off of the orders.

You're probably right, I'm just pissed.

It certainly seems fishy to me that their pricing system screwed up on two items at the exact same time. And if the discount was meant to happen, just at a different price, why are they now quoting us a ridiculous $150 figure and not just putting the drives up at the actual discount they were planning?

How long is it going to take for this charge to go off my card? I wanted to order that Brother printer in the other thread but now I can't because I'm at my limit and this $84 charge is holding me up.

Called them, said I will probably have to wait till tomorrow :(.

Awesome.

Could a mod or the OP put "DEAD" in the thread title so people don't come into the thread expecting a live deal? Thanks!

They didnt quote us $150, they just said that is the regular price. They got that from the MSRP (the email was just generated off of the MSRP figure obviously). Again, it was not a price quote, just informational.

They didnt quote us $150

Yes they did. Are we really going to argue semantics now?

By mentioning $150 in that email, they quoted us a price of $150.

In case you don't believe me, according to dictionary.com

"6. Commerce.
a. to state (a price)."

Jesus.
