I got my LianLi PC-A05B ! it's Small!

Yeah I think this will be my next case. Lian Li's engineers did a good job on this case. There isn't a lot of wasted space in the case.

I think i fit the biggest cooler i could in there don't you?

I still got a BS-03 and Two Grills for the top. and i haven't put on the PCI slots yet because i need a wire brush to clean the power coat out.

Holy smokes. I think NASA is looking for their jet engine you stole. The IFX-14 looks monstrous, at least when compared to the H50 :D

So I got my system setup today, no pics because I want to redo the cables after I get a quieter PSU. With the front cover on, during gaming, the thing kicks the fan up 100% and it's too loud for my liking. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm thinking if I mod a 120mm hole below the PSU and get a better PSU that has a large fan instead of this pos 80mm fan, that it'll solve my noise issues. Thoughts?

Don't do a hole yet, just get a PSU with 120-140mm fan. It will most likely be not the noisiest part of the system.

it's true, the psu gets very hot and sometimes noisy. when i shut off my system the psu fan still spins for a few minutes to get the temp down below the treshold. It never did this in my pc-7 case.

Well if you are going to mod it you might as well cut the hole in the bottom for the PS.
I am glad I did before the build as it will always nag you how much cooler would it of been with the hole.

With the filter I installed on the bottom and the foam weatherstripping on the inside of the case the PS is isolated from the case and should add very little to the heat inside.

got my a05nb last week, and 120x2 stripe radgrillz yesterday. cut the hole this morning. i must say that it looks really nice so far.

if anyone wants to know, used 5/32" drill for outer holes, and black 4mm x 10mm socket head screws from home depot. worked perfectly!

If I were to drill out the rivets to make A05B top removable, what would be the next step? I understand I can just use self-cutting screws to put the top back, but given the thickness (rather, thinness) of the aluminum frame I will only be able to take the top off and put it back on a few times before the holes in the aluminum become too loose. Is there a more robust solution that does not require special equipment/skills (e.g., welding)?

If you're going to make the top removable, you should always tap the metal (regardless of type). It's the proper way of doing things and will make install/removal of the screws a snap, not to mention the top proper.

Yes, but given the thinness of the aluminum and its softness, I'd think I should glue/solder a nut behind the aluminum. I guess I cannot solder steel to aluminum w/o some chemicals (possibly cannot even with the chemicals), which leaves gluing. What kind of glue should I use?

You can get a few of the inserts used to hold your cards in. I am going to do the same but did not have time to complete it.

You drill a slightly smaller hole and they will press in.

It should work well and they are flush with the outside of the frame.

Can you post a (link to a) picture of the inserts you're talking about? I'm somewhat confused as to the course of action you're proposing.

Look at the back of the case on the top left side of the slot covers.

You can see the round inserts where the slot covers are attached with the screws.

There are seven of them in a row going up and down.

edvb, thanks. Now I see what inserts you're talking about. There's something similar in the front for the thumb-screws holding the PSU bracket (although they don't seem to be coming through the entire thickness of the aluminum like the ones holding the PCI brackets are). The key question is how these are attached such that they don't fall out or rotate with the screw as it goes in/out .. and can one put them in w/o special tools?

The only thing I can think of right now is:
1. drill a small hole (would be nice to know how small)
2. chill the inserts (makes them thinner)
3. heat the area of the whole (makes the whole larger)
4. drive the insert into the hole
5. pray and hope that the friction of the joint will withstand the torque of the screw going in.

Are these inserts being sold somewhere? Do they have ridges to prevent spinning with the screw?

If not using the inserts, I was just thinking of epoxying a steel nut behind the aluminum hole (if it breaks, I can still do the inserts, as the hole in the aluminum will still be narrow enough. There must be somebody here who has dealt with this issue successfully ...

The insert have ridges so you just drill a size under and use a small washer and proper threaded bolt from the front to seat the insert.

I had to reseat all the ones for my case when I had it anodized black.

I will find out where to get some locally.

O man I think my time in this club maybe coming to an end

i was at microcenter and they had the Lian Li B25 for $95! Obviously I picked it up. It looks beautiful

but the a05b is my favorite case of all time... its so small and sexy. man this is going to be tough :(

haadij404, doesn't B25 have weirdly shaped (non-flat) side panels (picture)? B/c of them, A05 is still a winner of the aesthetics contest on my books.

glad you enjoy that new case. to me that case looks meh, i'm not a big fan of a swinging door on cases.

yeah im not a fan of doors either. but i always liked the b25 since it came out but the msrp of $250 was WTF but to find for less then a benjamin... i had to get it.

i still have my stuff in the a05... i will really have to see if its worth it to say goodbye. im still leaning toward keeping the a05 and keeping the b25 as a back up for a future build.

haadij404

For what it is worth.

The mistique of the A05B is the size and basic design that will be hard to copy.

The B25 was one of the cases I looked at before getting the A05B.

You are a modder at heart so do what you feel is right.

For me and what I wanted to do I could not find a better case to add the mods I wanted in a PC.

You just have to decide what you like best as you are the one looking at it every time you use it.

I have decided to keep the a05.

its perfect in every regard. I love it and I cannot say good bye!

if anyone wants a brand new b25 for $150 shipped let me know!

thats a good $50 off retail and includes shipping

im sorry fellas for almost straying off the path. please forgive me :(

you need C-02 CD bezel on that A05 (and, possibly, wiping off the white logo on that fan controller) to prevent you from wandering off the course in the future :D (as it will make your A05 look IRRESISTIBLE)

bastards came out with a newer cover  damn i want that.

also any good ways off wiping off the logo? ive been wanting to do it for a while now don't know how. maybe rubbing alcohol?

I'd start with isopropyl alcohol ($0.99 at Walmart) and non-abrasive cloth, but google for suggestions from those who'd actually done it.

Thanks for the advice. I just got done getting the logo off. Used 91% rubbing alcohol with some cotton swabs and it came off after some intense rubbing. It looks really clean now :D

sorry to see you leave the 05B now gtfo, just kidding. the side pannel sucks balz and the door sucks even more. just think that each time you need to access the cd drive or usb, you will need to open the door lol. most of the cases with doors that I have seen are usually left open after a while lol. good luck on your new build, since you have both just create a new computer and use both. once hardware is in a case, and i pickup a new one, i would build a new computer. i do like the blue glow ring thing.

i stuck with the a05 and yes you're right about doors being a nuisance. i am trying to sell the b25 and if that fails im just gonna return it. maybe spend that money on an SSD or some such.

Hey I got a blue LED ring on my vandal switch does that count?

The two switches were made for this case and is worth getting them.

The SSD is not too bad either.

I was thinking on a ssd but i picked up a WD Caviar Black WD6401AALS. Drive is quiet and fast. Currently i'm looking to do a dual fan cut on the top but i suck at cutting. trying to figure out how to do it clean lol.
