Where i live i have only 2 choices for decent monitors: the Dell 2209W or 2408WFP.

The problem with the 22'' is the size, i wanted a 24''. The problem with the 24'' is the wide gamut.

Considering that IF a IPS/*VA 24'' with standard gamut is ever released i will not be able to buy it here for a long time after the release in the US, which would you pick? Do you think it's worth sucking up the wide gamut for more 2''?

You know how girls say once you go black you never go back?

Its the same thing with monitors. Get the 24".

It is not just an extra 2" in physical size; there are 30% more pixels in the 2408WFP than in the 2209WA. While problems with wide gamut is sure to alleviate as color managed applications become more common, the lack of pixels will never change as long as you keep the monitor.

Go for the 24" if you can spare the extra cash.

Are you sure you can't get something better?

And you are willing to go the evil wide-gamut way, you should at least pick HP LP2475w.

There is a word that ATI GFX cards can handle wide-gamut monitors better than Nvidia, what card do you have?

I don't know about the once you go black statement cause i've dated a black chick that'd been with 10" black guys and she went white : P. But what's your budget if you don't mind me asking. If you can scrounge 800$ i can get you a wfp-hc 3007

I'd agree with that, but I won't share my personal history :)

Concerning the monitor I think I'd go with the 2209WA, but that depends on your needs. If you want a fast, low lag gaming monitor that is capable of doing 75 hz at 1680x1050 over DVI the 2209WA is excellent.

The 2408WFP is better if you need the alternative inputs for consoles or HD players/cable boxes, but considering the (likely) price difference and average 33ms input lag on the 2408WFP revision A01 and later, I'd still be leaning towards the 2209WA.

I get the impression that Isaac is not in the US, and his choices are very limited due to his location. Suggesting other monitors does not help him much (if at all) because he cannot buy these monitors, or at least not at any reasonable price.

That's right, i could get other monitors by importing them, but the taxes + shipping would make it way more expensive, plus i would not be able to return them if i find a dead pixel or something like that.

Prices here are are ridiculously expensive compared to the US...But since the rest of the monitors being sold in my country are junk except for the Dells, i don''t have much choice.

And i have an ATI graphics card.

It depends on what you are going to use the monitor for. You say nothing about that.

2408 cons: wide gamut, PVA panel, higher price

2209 cons: small, low resolution, worse manufacturing quality statistics, no connectivity

The only obvious condition so far: return/replacement must be possible.

Everyone after the OP started talking about the 2209WA. He said 2209W. Dell makes a different monitor that's a 2209W. Actually, they have a S2209W, E2209W and 2209WA, so I'm not quite sure what is available to him.

I'll be using it for pc gaming mostly, but i'm not a hardcore FPS gamer. What worries me about the 2408 is how games look with wide gamut, do they look bad?

I'm pretty sure the 2209W listed here is the E-IPS one since it says so in the specifications.

It will look fine if you have nothing to compare it to. I can't think of a single game that looks wrong on a wide-gamut monitor. Even MGS4 wasn't bad, just slightly different.

Actually I take that back, I don't like Civ 4 on my wide gamut monitor, but that's side-by-side with my sRGB one with the game stretched across both screens. Also it's really picking nits to say it looks bad, but that's just how I feel about it. Anyway, that's the only game I have a problem with.

What monitor are you using now and what ATI card do you own? Can it handle 1920 x 1200?
