How angry do you get when playing games?

When I first started playing Counterstrike: Source around 2004, I sucked so badly averaging 1:2 or 1:3 kill:death ratio. Almost after every death would result in me slamming my mouse (a Logitech MX310) down on the table. The mouse survived approximately 3-4 more months of that before it finally broke and would no longer track. :( That's when I realized I needed to calm down and since then have done much better, usually in the 2:1 ratio range.

Street Fighter 4 and Gears of War 2 makes me want to throw my controller many times.

I don't mind getting mad when I play CS:S. It makes me focus harder and I go on rampages and kill like 5 or 6 people in a row.

i got mad when i played crysis. i also get mad when i play bf2142 i get the first shot off and i still die. arrrrghhhhh. lots of hacking going on in that game to i think and dam rdx bunny hoppers.

Thats why you play on servers with friendly fire on ;) and find a select few servers with good admins, and of course good ping.

As for getting upset in a game, it happens to me when I swear my team doesn't use their minimap at all, for instance in bf 2142 I can put up a radar thinga majig and people continue running around like their heads are cut off even though if they bothered to look at their mini map they would see where the enemy is.

The only time I got mad was when a power outage killed my Final Fantasy 3(6) save of 85 hours...punched the wall(didn't break anything in my hand...), that was 15 years ago.

When I play DOTA I get real angry sometimes if I just end up on a losing streak because of bad teammates. Come to think of it, I get angry at any game if it involves shitty teammates that have zero clue what teamwork is.

This is the only reason why I get angry. If I lose of my own accord then fine, but if I lose because of some dumb @sshat just there to screw with the game and be insanely annoying then I get more than angry, usually a hard pound on my desk.

I broke my old desk playing an old online game MTM2 .. since then , the extent of my "anger" is merely yelling .."Oh come on!!" ... :p

lol you should've seen me when I started playing CS again last week. I haven't played the game for years and got so mad at how I lost all of my skills. Good thing my logitech keyboard can withstand a beating =P

TF2 gets me mad sometimes (bloody snipers and spies), which causes me to swear profusely but never causes me to break anything, although I've slapped my mouse down in anger quite a few times.

I lost a heated game of Super Smash Bros Melee in my freshman year (I had a bet) and I punched a hole in my closet door in comic anger.

I felt pretty cool but the door was hollow anyway..

My pet peeve is repetition.

Games that remove quicksave/load are usualy the worst for this, If I've done a large section of a level and I die near the end, I don't want to have to re-do everything I've just done. I prefer stories as linear experiences with a continuous narative. When I die and have to restart a section over and over usually due to a bug or a stupid spike in difficulty, it really gets on my nerves.

All it takes is to slap an unskippable cutscene before all that or some stupidly large amount of navigation through menus, or an abnoxsiouly long loading time (when loading the SAME level) then it can be enough to make me rage and swear my head off.

Multiplayer playing along side stupid team mates also grinds my gears, after many years of gaming the line between newbie and pro has been blurred somewhat, I've come to expect a minimum level of skill from players which in reality just cannot exist, but it just seems so unnatural that people are so incapable online.

Games like TF2 can get me pretty irate, the rules are simple, the gameplay is pretty simple, there is even an intro video to tell you specifically what the objectives are, yet you can still get an entire team full of people who refuse to run at a Capture Point to stop the enemy from capturing it...there's only one objective in the map, it's clearly explained, you dont need to be a good player to understand it, nor do you need to be a good player to help, you just hold the W key and aim at the point, even if you only stop the cap for 3 seconds before your head is blown off thats enough for the good players to respawn and get the proper defence up.

Yet it still occurs with great regularity, if it was just one person failing then thats understandable, but a whole team (bar 1-2 good players)...it doesn't seem possible...makes me want to facepalm so hard.

There's just no excuse, for being that stupid.

Sorry, getting angry and not even in game ^_^

Thank God my time has past for breaking things, now I just quit the game, and go back to it later only to quit again in some cases becasue I get pissed off.

Years ago it was another story however, let me recall some.

+ Atari 2600 Controller: That weak ass Joystick, damn it always breaking off at the base!
Aso those damn Driving Controller/Atari Paddles, the "knob" was not very rigid either.

+ NES Controller: With teeth marks in them (because I got tired of breaking other things with the controllers when I would swing and smash it up against something else, (although it was badass to see my lego houses crumble at the might of the speeding NES controller).
Also note that the "light gun" can not be used "as a hammer on the carpeted floor that has concrete underneath becase you got pissed off at that fucking dog and his duck friends".

+ SNES Controller: (see above), and also those damned multi-fire controllers from MadCatz I think (the old ass clear ones where you could flip the switches to enable the multi-fire on a paticular button). I would squeeze the fuck out of them untill they would shatter in my hands, only to have shards of hard plastic quickly embed itself into my hands, thus inducing more rage. =/

+ Sega Genesis Controller: Did you know these could eventually snap in two from twisting them or beating them over something?
The SegaCD bay also did not take a liking to being beat with Sega Genesis controllers, go figure.

+ N64 Controller: During owning this console, I had at least 2~3 multi-colored controllers. This being caused from said symptom from the above comment, and from smashing it on the ground, and having to re-asemble the broken controller, with another controller that was also broken previously.

+ Old cheap ass Sanyo TV: Suffered a broken volume down button do to me punching the front bezel of the unit, and breaking the switch behind said button, and having "Sanyo" temporarily imprinted in my fist.

That is all I can think of for now, perhaps I should get back to work.

Some of you guys REALLY need to take some anger management classes....STAT!

Gamers are more like sports fans than they care to admit. The competitive spirit lies in every gamer, although perhaps it lies more dormant in others.

For all the people punching walls, screens, keyboards, I can't imagine if their NFL/College team lost an OT game. Or if they follow sports at all, it'd be double trouble haha.

I think getting beaten by my cousins at street fighter 2 for the SNES got me pissed off the most. the thing that set me off completely was when one of them got a perfect on me, after SF2 came out, all of our SNES controllers had things rattling around in them.

:D

Now in terms of my own accounts, the only game to bring the rage is CS1.6. My first multiplayer FPS, and the one that gave me the necessary skills for gaming in the future. I started incredibly late, junior year of high school when others had been playing for 2-3 years already. So yeah, there is a bit of a steep curve in the beginning (how the hell do I buy bullets, why do i suck), but that's FPS hazing in general.

I found once I got pretty good, my rage was gone. Of course, this occurred during my transition from high school to college, so some maturity from growing up probably helped as well. Starting as a passionate, but unskilled high schooler in a PC bang >> calm, high K:D ratio college player - I think that's the natural progression of things.

I don't throw anything, but my computer room gets filled with "oh FFS!" from time to time. Usually just from people being stupid or from poor game mechanics (ie: DOD:S).

When I was a kid, I punched my 30 gallon fish tank after losing a ball in pinball on my C64.

I learned a lesson. Of course it was after I used every piece of dry cloth material in the house to soak up 30 gallons of water; all the while wondering if my dad was going to let me live another day :D

I never really get angry while playing games...IMHO, if you're getting angry to the point of throwing things, you've missed the entire point of a game to begin with.

i only get frustrated when a game has awfully bad controls and shitty camera angles, having to redo a boss battle more than a few times because the character cant turn fast enough, doesn't respond at all, or the camera gets stuck behind a object is highly annoying..

not to mention crashing or freezing mid game play (save smart kids), that is indeed a piss off.

i agree with some of the guys above. i get angry when the game is designed poorly and i wonder how the devs even finished it. some games ive played are really hard and think to myself no way this game can be beaten. even some nes games were bad like battletoads.....the rat race part i think insanely difficult with just the one nes controller. i star wars game i tried on pc once........also the map was poorly designed and the controls were terrible.

yes i get angry.

I get angry for example on COD4 yesterday, i was in a game of BOG and everyone on the other team were one big clan of snipers, do i need to continue? 34 deaths 6 kills (im lvl 55 10th prestige, KD ratio is about 1.60)

i dont cause damage or start punching things but i do get frustrated and hail a symphony of swear words.

It was worse when I was younger. Went through a number of atari controllers. Now I may get frustrated but then i'll just turn it off and walk away and come back to it at a later date.

Like do you get controller-throwing mad or can you keep calm most of the time? I rarely get mad or angry over a game. Dieing really doesn't bother me unless it happens a lot in a particular area. But I know people that want to throw their controller on their first death. So what about you?

Occasionally I get a little pissed in WoW pvp. My parrot who is located in my 'office' with my game rig now says "That's just fucking ridiculous!" :D

lol got a new one.

was playing through HL2:Episode 2 finally. Got to the point where you have to jump the bridge with the car you pickup. Well, I got into the car... perhaps a bit pre-mature and accidentily drove it half way off the ledge, so the wheels were no longer contacting any surface/road. The game autosaved right there, with the car stuck in that position and had to go back through again, close to an hour, from the previous save

didn't throw anything, but a few choice words were thrown around

Update:

Just broke my PS3 controller - the dual shock Six axis one.
Broke my Enermax Caesar keyboard as well.

Now a days, not mad at all, maby just a couple of curse words every now and then ;-p Back 15 years ago...well...Im just glad we didnt have a LCD/Plasma/DLP, hehh

If I get too frustrated over a game I just turn it off for awhile and try again later.

I don't think I ever threw a controller or anything over a game

aha that's pretty funny, since if you watch the commentary you will notice that one of the things they specificaly designed and tested for this time around was trapping users in unplayable autosave situations. so damn you really must have done a halfassed dukes of hazzard up in there or something, that's what you get for being a wuss and not gunning it.

At a lan party I threw a wireless mouse that bounced off the back of a friends head and exploded into a bunch of pieces. Never bought a wireless mouse again.

I rented some need for speed game for regular xbox ages ago, couldn't beat this once race and threw my wireless controller against the wall causing it to explode.

Hell, I no longer buy anything that says wireless. They fly too far.

I got quite mad at games when I was young, but managed to stay smart enough not to break anything.

Throwing a SNES controller, hard at a counch with decent cushins was one of the better things to do.

Although I accidentally fragged like 4-5 snes controllers... walking back to the console after saving, and having thick carpeting + dry basement = shocked and fragged controller.

I don't destroy things when I get mad at games. I just let it fume inside of me. One day I'm gonna flip and probably take a sledgehammer to my desktop though. =\

My gf on the other hands throws controllers and crap, it's kinda scary lol.

Let's see... pretty much like everyone else... lots of swearing and if necessary an emphatic mouse smash on the Hardpad... Logitech makes InDeStrucTable mice!!

lol ironically, the commentary was the first thing I thought about after realizing what had happened :D

Usually I am fairly good about not getting upset, until about a week ago, and had a crappy day at work and just wanted to come home and unwind and play TF2. Well I start playing and things are going good until I get this every other minute of sound stuttering that locks everything up for 15 seconds. I was cursing up a storm, and pounding my desk and eventually threw my mic down ($6 Zalman, which still works btw). That's been about the worst for a long time. Idiots in TF2, and losing in general usually don't peeve me off, but things that make the game unplayable does.

FWIW I reinstalled sound and vid drivers and it lessened the stuttering but it still happens every so often.

I get the stuttering, not good when you are on a good run and the game goes into meltdown. It happened last night when I was going after the Medic 'Specialist' healing achievement. The air was blue I can tell you. The game has only done this since the multicore option was implemented

My older brother used to get so mad when playing NES or Atari that he'd turn on me (sitting next to him waiting patiently for my turn) and start choking me. We're talking Homer and Bart style.

:D

The joys of auto-autosave!

yeah whatever happened to quicksave, what was the last game that even used quicksave?

Since when do games claim to be able to pick better points at which to save than me? Singleplayers used to be more fun for me when I could save whenever I pleased making tricky areas able to be broken down into several discreet steps after which you can save.

Too much reloading on stupidly hard areas of the game breaks the immersion for me.

if i'm sucking horribly at a game and getting my ass handed to me by other players online, i just remind myself that i'm married, i've felt a woman's touch and i'm not a single nerdy basement dweller that is likely the person kicking my ass, lol.

that usually makes me feel better, haha.

Agreed.

Wife, kids, home, good job, big bad truck.
I have to remind myself that I play games to relax after the stresses of life. As soon as the games are making me stressed, I stop.
I cut down my MP gaming by about 90% I enjoy playing with friends, but thats not as often as it used to be. For about 4 years I stopped playing MP shooters. I only recently started again, but thats Killzone2 on the PS3 and I dont find it stressing me out.
