BoB is dead... the war is over. (Eve Online)

is it possible to solo in this game?

you can solo for a good long while... i did off and on til now (currently at around 7.5m skillpoints). now i just want to get my hands into some pvp; either in a merc corp or one involved in 0.0... soloing just got old for me. but there is a lot you can do solo no doubt - a lot more in this game than all the dragon/elf/orc games. you really have to just get over the hurdle that there is zero instant gratification in this game (all skills train in real time, from 4 minutes to well over a month for one level) - if you can do that you might like it.

but for all I know you are a potential spy. :)

well a few things; i am too impatient, don't want to spend energy on, uninterested, and wouldn't know where to begin to spy. i just want to kill people like aaa and the like. i appreciate the offer but i will just ride out my app with DS1.

Just saw this thread. Amazing that the Goonswarm twerps are spamming this forum too with their propaganda. Congratulations on getting lucky enough to find some disenchanted idiot willing to give you the ultimate advantage by disbanding BoB with the click of a mouse. If you can't win, which you couldn't, just cheat. The goon way.

You've been a bunch of failures for years and still needed half of Eve to win against the disbanded BoB. I say "win" lightly. Won't be long before we're reading threads about Goons getting face stomped from the face of Eve by all those that hate them. I recently re-subbed just to witness the backlash that is about to happen. How do I know this? Because I'm a director in your most powerful "ally".alliance. Very soon you'll see what little loyalty anyone has for you. Blue becomes red very easily in this game.

Tick Tock.

Ahahaha do you have any idea how Bob+Allies was able to attack the DG system just like a month ago? They burned a spy who used a shared account to untick sovereignty in that system, neutralizing the cynojammers and jump bridges. They still failed to capture the system. Guess they werent good enough to win without "cheating" either.

Oh man you are a hoot. More please! So who are you then. Sounds more like posturing.

This thread can attest to that I am no fan of Goons .... however, the following is just too far out there:

I recently re-subbed [...] I'm a director in your most powerful "ally".alliance

No offense mate, but with a recent re-sub you are already back at director level?
That makes it a little tricky to take that "ally" alliance (TCF, is it?) seriously. Good luck nonetheless.

this thread... has gotten completely hilarious.

I don't think you know what "cheating" means.

Bitter much? It's just a game.
And no, you're not a director in TCF.

I LOL'd. Pretty sad man :(. Pretty sad...

I hope that the NC and Goons kick the shit out of AAA and whats left of Kenny.
Then I hope that the NC go back to Drones and kill all that Shadow of xxDeath and Solar garbage.

Not to derail this from the BoB vs. Goons thing, but the NC? I mean, really?
What kind of offense has the NC ever won? Sure some NC alliances, or remnants thereof, are better than others in defending their positions, but NC and offense is .... inconceivable?!

lols@ thule for truthfulness regarding the NC + offense.

now defense on the other hand.... care bears defend their caves to the death. tribute is almost an impenetrable fortress.

lol at people trying to apply real-life ethics to a game. It's a game and the sole point of gaming has always been to kill, kill, kill.

QFT. I ROFLed at the link assigned a real-world value of £4k to an in-game ship. It's a game, and it's just data. There are no ethics. You want to win? You can fight, spy, hack, whatever you feel like. It's not important enough for ethics to be relevant.

The thing is you can assign real life money to an in-game ship because people actually pay it believe it or not.

You can pay for game time with in-game money. A 60 day "time code" goes for about 600 million isk in game. Therefore, 600 million isk = $30 or so ($15/month).

Or perhaps more succinctly: anything in the world, and I do mean anything, is to someone worth whatever they're willing to pay for it. In time, in money, or in other ways. We now return you to your regularly scheduled faction war, already in progress.

I know players have bought/redeemed timecards to get themselves into a Carrier and whatnot but I doubt anyone has done this for a Titan. Cause yeah it would be like $4,000 or so.

I did see a guy on battleclinic once who managed to lose 3 carriers in like 3 days, all to different opponents. I know im bad at this game, but sheesh.

It may seem strange, but there are lots of EVE players to whom $4,000 is (or at least was) disposable income. This guy: EVE Online player loses USD 19,000 in shady virtual currency deal is really just the tip of the iceberg. The ability to "legally" convert RL cash to game currency is what makes EVE so popular among accomplished professionals. No need to grind, just take some spare cash and have fun.

I personally know of two players who would spend $100-$200 a week on GTCs. One of them did it through the corp set up affiliate program and would then sell the GTCs to corp members at 25mil below market value. This was going on for months, literally.

This game is worthless, BoB is worthless, Goonsquad or whatever they are is worthless. Why dont they just meet up in a parking lot in real life and settle this like men.

Why meet in the parking lot when we can meet in my bedroom like real men.

Eh ..., can't read that, asks for username/password, cba to make an account, cliffnotes version?

This morning's stupid question is brought to you by the picture OldPueblo linked to: what's so important about the Delve system, anyway?

I'm not an expert, but from what I know it has the lowest security status, which means that NPC rats have the highest bounties yielding lots of money. It also has the best moons for moon mining, meaning billions of isk for whatever alliance can hold it.

All of that cash means that they can afford the largest capital fleets. Due to the way sovereignty and jumping capitals works, once an alliance is dug in it is near impossible to break them. There are only a few ways to do it:
1) Send in waves of massive battleship fleets to take out the cyno jammers so you can jump your caps in. Problem: BoB had something like 10 titans, each of which can heavily damage or kill an entire fleet of BSs. You have no element of surprise considering how many people you need. You also have to coordinate it perfectly to jump in your cap fleet to the hostile system. Your window of opportunity is limited to mere minutes.
2) Have a spy take down the cyno jammer for you, letting you jump your cap fleet in. Problem: Again, limited window of opportunity and the cyno generator shows up to everyone in system so limited surprise.
3) Have a spy take down the POSs claiming sov. Problem: need someone high enough to pull it off. See 2.
4) Do what the BoB director did and close the corp or alliance claiming sov. See 2 and 3.

So basically any alliance in Delve that has all the timezones covered and can keep its directors clear of spies and traitors CANNOT be pushed out.

Yes we fully expect cyno jammers and titans to be nerfed now that it's our turn to turtle up in Delve. It happened with POS bowling, it happened with remote doomsdays, we've just gotten used to it.

There's a lot that really needs to be nerfed in EVE in order to create a more enjoyable gaming experience for everyone. The fact that there is no in-game mechanic to take down a cyno jammer guarded by 4 Titans cannot possibly be considered "working as intended".

Yes, it should have been nerfed long ago, and who knows it may still take forever to be nerfed, but there shouldn't be 100% security in 0.0 (when considering game mechanics rather than metagaming) no matter how much effort is put into developing a region.

The devs never considered that EVE may be running long enough for everyone and their child to have a Titan. Lots of "end-game" mechanics couldn't be tested during development because there's only so much you can test, and it's difficult to asses players actions that have nothing to do with game mechanics per so (but are also not metagaming). What I mean by that is that when CCP made EVE, they never considered that there would be players to whom the 150+ billion expense of a Titan is just "the cost of doing business". Now there are dozens in game, and dozens more are being constructed.

I fully expect a moon mining nerf at some point in the future, were moon minerals are depleted (which makes sense!) and elsewhere they are deposited (makes sense too) so you have to rescan moons and set up shop elsewhere over time.

I'm not an expert, but from what I know it has the lowest security status, which means that NPC rats have the highest bounties yielding lots of money...

Near as I recall the security rating actually goes down to negative numbers in deep space and there the rats have no bounties. They do, however, drop craploads of resources since they are each equivalent to a battleship (near as I recall) and frequently you'll find 3 or more per asteroid belt.

Eve was neat but the gameplay basically required people to be asstards to each other. You could mine for hours and then some little bastard could jump you, destroy your ship, threaten to kill your character if you didn't pay a bounty, then run and hide in a station before you could get reinforcements. It was sociopath heaven.

Always has been. One of the oldest global bank frauds in MMORPGs was in Eve.

So you be the guy that does that, or you fly a little smarter. :) Also it sounds like you are talking about the drone regions, that's the only place where they drop resources. All other rats pay out money.

Sort of, the lowest security rating is -1.0. and rats always have bounties. You are thinking of the Drone regions were the "rats" are not actually faction pirates, but machine drones. The NPC drones have no bounty but drop resources instead. Delve isn't part of the Drone regions, so the rats there have bounties.

What made Devle so awesome is the combination of many close to -1.0 sec systems, many valuable moons, conquerable NPC stations (no cash spend on outpost construction), and relative proximity to Empire (park capital fleet assets in Aridia).

Time will tell what will happen next.
Goons blowing up close to 300 towers is quite a feat, so is BoB keeping their membership numbers up. BoB isn't dead as the thread subject may suggest.

In the end none of it really matters. As the playerbase in many alliance matures (matured) players realized that epeen size doesn't matter to them, and that it is irrelevant where they reside in EVE as long as they have fun logging in and actually playing the game rather than spending time telling each other on public forums how great they are.

What good is it to live in a particular spot if you dread logging into the game to defend it, or you dread logging in because it takes you a couple of hours to actually get some place were you can find someone who will put up a fight.

hrrrnghh MUST RESIST TEMPTATION TO TRY EVE AGAIN..

not...working...

gah...where can i get the trial?

The drama is sucking me in for a first play... Except I have a wife.

Sure, James can balance his kickboxer and personal life but that only works for the first two hobbies. Anything beyond that and the 'other' starts getting intolerant for some reason. ;)
