My friend recommended me to buy the P5Q3 mobo , but i would like to hear some other opinions.

Thanks.

A few questions:

-What is your budget?
-What other components do you intend on using in this PC?
-What do you intend to do with this PC?
-How long do you plan on keeping this computer?

In general though, the P5Q3 is not a particularly compelling alternative compared to DDR2 Core 2 motherboards, since DDR3 provides very little performance improvement and is not really worth the extra cost. Unless you are planning to upgrade to a Core i7 PC in the near future and want to carry over your memory, I would recommend that you look at a cheaper DDR2 motherboard instead, like the ASUS P5Q Pro, Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P, or Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R.

Agreed, I'd go with the Gigabyte UD3P or UD3R.

Will consider ea. alternative.

btw , will use the computer for database works (lots of data and calculations).

no need for gaming stuff , only processing speed .

At this point, I'd just spend the money and get an i7 system rather than a DDR3 based Core 2.

If your budget allows it, then go with i7. If not, then just stick with a ddr2 board. ddr3 is almost useless for c2d and quads.

if D2 is selected which mobo, cpu and memory will u pick ?

i have 500$ for mobo cpu and 4gb memory...

I7's are mainly an improvement for this type of work, and not as much for gaming, especially if you can utilize 8 cores with ht. Do you have a microcenter near by? If so i7920 for 230 plus tax, 6gb of memory and a quality cheap motherboard that should be good for a stable 3.8 overclock for 260 plus shipping and tax. With shipping and tax this is a little more than $500, but is a lot fast for number crunching than a q9550 (since I suspect you can at least use 4 cores) at 4.0 (8X500) and a gigabyte P45-ud3p and 4gb of decent ddr2 ($280+$115+$40 =$435). I hope this helps, and if you can't utilize all of those cores then I agree with vanilla's suggestion but with a P45-ud3p motherboard only because it's cheaper (both good boards).
