DC Vault

That's wild. Anyway I'm concentrating on both Leiden Classical and QMC at the moment, with a few percent on other projects.

welp finally got my electrical bill by shutting off my systems a week before the month was over my PG&E bill dropped 204 dollars... from 444 dollars (including gas) to 240 dollars(including gas).. included in that i did not run any of my laptops the entire month.. so i think im officially done using the laptops.. probably time to junk them or part them out if i can..

Great boost today on QMC. 163 positions for the week. Nice job Ice! Thanks for the assist. I've got 2 quads running QMC (along with CPDN and WCG) but your 4300+ for the day was just outstanding.

We've bumped up to 28th overall in the Vault. Nicely done... nicely done indeed. Great job everyone.

Thanks, just trying to help. I had two quads dedicated to QMC for the last few days, but now they're split 50/50 QMC/LC so my QMC production will drop a bit.

So anybody else notice somebody named Nickidy pop up on our Milkyway team? From his info page, he's only on 5 projects, including Primegrid and ABC (the only other 2 I'm on and can easily check), but he's not on our team for either of those... And dude's put up almost 40K of our 72K pernts, just since Jan. 27! Not sure why he's there or who he is, but I'm damn glad! From what I can tell, his addition to us on that project is worth at least 75 ranks...

Unknown Mystery Folder FTW!

So since this topic was in all the lost posts, I decided to take a look at a project that might benefit from a 3 day raid, just to see what it could do for us, and went with Cosmology, since our team score is only 5700 or so. My 2.4 dual core can do a 140 pernt WU in just over 6 hours, so call that about 560 ppd/core - 10 cores at this rate on this for 3 days would give us about 15,000 more pernts, which would move us up from our current 315 rank to around 275, and those 40 spots would be worth about 535 DC Vault pernts; 20 cores would move us up to about 250 and be worth about 870... Since I missed the raid, how many cores did we throw at SHA-1?

FYI, I made an Excel spreadsheet to easily calc our rankings based on the DC Vault formula, what is needed is the average ppd per core of a project, and we can easily figure out what projects would be easiest to attack! Leiden was the other idea I remember, I think, any other projects I should look at?

im guessing hes a member of Team anandtech since thats who hes running for on Seti..

wow nice.. i havent been running majestic 12 since i lost my memory.. systems way to friggin unstable with this crappy generic stuff.. because the motherboards running it at 1.95v instead of the manufacture specs of 1.80v.. and i cant go any lower then 1.95v on this board..

Yeah sorry to hear about your memory. If I had any spare I'd let you have it but I'm all out of everything but generic SDR PC-100 and SDR PC-133.:(
The nice thing is that good memory even like OCZ has became pretty affordable.

I just looked at uFluids stats. I have over 1/2 of all the points for the team in that project

(also have 3500 or so more points pending)

The boxen I was running OGR-NG on has bit the dust. Going to try and replace it with a PS3 running Linux next month. I am down to two boxen. :( My Core i7 that I run a variety of stuff on and my parents P4 that runs SHA-1 and MARXAN only Lattice projects.

Wow, welcome aboard mysticmerlin and Nickidy. Glad to have you guys on board, stop by and say hi!

Nice work on the spreadsheet Jathanis, that could end up being a big factor in us deciding which project we should raid next. Before we lost all the discussion, I remember Cosmology, Leiden Classical and Docking getting tossed out as possibilities.

It's already Thursday, so if we're going to do another weekend raid, we better get to figuring things out. :D

BOINC Question - Is anyone running the command line version of BOINC and know if there's a way for it to tell me how much work is left in the queue?

You can use Boincview to monitor all your clients if running Windows. Get it here.

So has anyone else noticed that we already have more points in GPUGRID than we do in WCG? :D

Never mind, I was looking at one of the 2 wrong WCG teams. :(

But the GIMPS and Superlink@Technion threads in the "new projects" section are getting a lot a discussion.

Since I have just about 3/4 of the points for RCN I believe with a few other people the [H]orde could make a quick push in it. There are many teams on the DCVault below us with more than 9000 points on the vault for RCN. I am not asking for any long term commitments just a quick boost to push through the dead weight above us. The WUs are quick and at maximum up to 4 hours. If any one is interested please join RCN! Thanks.

I looked at some numbers there, and if we could do anything close to what we did in SHA1, we'd jump well into the top 100 after a 3 day raid in RCN.

This could be a fun one.

Because RCN has quick WUs, I agree it's good for a weekend push. That way we don't have WUs stuck in our BOINC queues until Tuesday or Wednesday. Another project with small WUs is PrimeGrid, but I haven't investigated the team standings with that one.

I got my new Phenom II online last night and working on Cosmology & Yoyo, but it's running really hot (PSU fan full blast) even with the video cards idle. I'm going to buy a new case at Microcenter today, but that means I'll basically not be using any parts from the original Pentium II, so it's hard to keep calling it an "upgrade." On the plus side(?), I still have a complete and functional Pentium II system, which I think will become my testbed for old hardware.

Edit: just looked at PrimeGrid, and it doesn't look like the possibility of advancement is as good as in RCN.

RCN it is then?

That's fine by me. IIRC, we peaked at around ~40K/day in SHA1. If we can do anywhere close to that in RCN, getting up into the top 75 won't be out of the question. Although seeing a 200 place jump in primegrid would be cool too.

already got 4 gigs on the way..so its all good.. getting 2x2gb 1066 gskill coming.. was really hoping that ballistix tracer crap was going to last me til i got my tax returns.. but oh well.. but thats the last time ill ever buy crucial memory.. on top of that their customer support sucks balls.. saying i voided the life time warrenty by running the memory at 2.1v even though the memory never worked at 2.0v from day one of receiving it.. by the end before it died i had to run it at 2.35v which is the highest my motherboard will go w/ the vdroop.. so im sure when it bsod it overheated the memory and finally killed it..

its all good though.. ill enjoy the sub 100 dollar electric bill this month.. since this ones running at stock 45w TDP and my 6400+ is off.. only have my 3100+ running SOB..

Glad to hear that you will be back up and running again sirmonkey1985.

Weekend Raid - I'd be happy with RCN this weekend.

guess what.. guess what...

ahh screw it ill say it anyways...

found a new bios update for my board which unlocked the higher voltages for memory(maximum use to be 2.4v now its 2.8v).. got my ballistix tracer running again at 2.45v(after vdroop).. though its rated at 2.0v im not sure how long it will run at this voltage.. but as long as it keeps working until my new memory shows up.. im back to running boinc.. checked it in memtest86 for about 20 minutes no errors.. so thats good enough for me.. :p plus got my 3.05ghz overclock working again.. woot back in business.. you have no idea how happy i am right now..

In for RCB this weekend! Besides, I've been neglecting it for a while, and it's my lowest BOINC score of any of my projects...

For the stat whores among us, hitting #100 would boost us by about 950 pertns, and #75 would be worth about 1250 pernts with a total score of over 9,000!

For anyone interrested, here's the link to the spreadsheet: http://home.pacbell.net/jathanis/DCVault.xls And yes, in case you hadn't guessed, my day job is as a civil engineer, so for me, everything turns into a spreadsheet!

edit: oops, shouldn't have asked for 10 days with everthing suspended - now I got 53 WU on one machine... Should take me through Monday, right? :D

Thanks for the support for the idea for the RCN raid. This one raid would put us easily into the top for it.

Alright, so someone who knows this project please tell me - what's with all the WU's that run for 50 seconds to 3 minutes, then jump to 100% and give you about half a point?! In the last 10 minutes, I've gotten WU's turned in for 0.79, 0.24, 0.47, 0.33, 0.22, 0.31 & 0.05 (that was 11 seconds long)! I finally have a pair going for 20+ minutes, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Jathanis,
The workunits are as quick as a few seconds sometimes and only run up till 4 hours at most. The point system is proportional to the work done. The more workunits you get the more often they seem to get longer. I have 2 C2Ds and its nice because one core crunches a longer unit and one can crunch like 4 in the same amount of time. Yeah the workunits that only get like .7 points do suck but its easy to get alot of points very quickly since they are so short.

Yeah, I just had one finish in 40 minutes worth 10 points - it seems that on my machine it's about 4 minutes of work per point, so my dual core should (in theory) put up about 700 ppd, and if my lappy can do about half that, I should be good for about 3500 pernts this weekend raid... That will move us up by 15 spots with just my 2 machines! Boy, if we can just get Kendrak to spare a quad core for the raid, that 75 spot looks to be within reach... :D After that, though, the climbing starts to get pretty hard.

I ran some quick numbers, and if we can get all projects we have teams below 9,000 up to that level, and hold all the projects we have over 9,000, that will be good for 13th overall on the Vault. Then, if we can get teams/pernts going in the 3 projects that show No Team, we can bump off AnandTech for 9th overall! And since I'm the one who understated the Saturday goal by 22 places and counting, should I make another one?

A dozen Commandos breaking the top ten? Now THAT would be [H]ardcore!

Well I guess the team doesn't get the points that mysticmerlin had when he joined out Majestic-12 team - oh well I'll make up for them.
Look out tr0ach - I'm a coming for you very very fast.
Watch this sirmonkey1985 I'm a gonna unplug my pipe and let it drain.:D

We're already #35 in production for today. We could go as far as we're willing to stick it out for in this project.

lol watch me take the lead.. 100/100mbit FTW! lets just see how long it takes til my server host gets pissed.. or the router thinks im ddosing some one and blocks my connection..

on my personal computer its set at 150 w/ 50 open buckets.. also stay away from .com and .net and .org because the crawl depths are horrible on those.. also the more buckets you get dns errors on the better.. did almost 40k urls that all got dns errors within 5 minutes..

but no matter what i do on my server i cant max the connection out.. it wont open enough url buckets.. its set at 600 workers 400 url buckets.. most it will open is 20 and only doing about 15mbit.. no where near my max.. going to keep screwing with it.. see if i can get it to max it out..

basicly 1 domain = 1 worker.. so the if you can get good url to domain ratios you can get a lot more done..

Is it CPU bound? Meaning is the server running out of cpu time to start up more workers?

Holy bump, Batman! We got over 4,500 points in the last Vault update, thanks mostly to the Prime Sierpinski Problem - PRP team being added.

I'm in the process of switching everything over to RCN. I just need to finish a few W@H and PrimeGrid tasks.
