CNet has an article on how Intel’s Atom platform converted millions into netbook and low-power believers. Never really thought of it from this angle but it is indeed remarkable to see the numbers and players that jumped on the Atom bandwagon.

This wasn't one sole convert (like Apple), this was a Pentecostal conversion of biblical proportions. Almost overnight, the entire top tier of the PC industry got the Atom religion. In fact, it happened so quickly and so massively that companies like AMD and Qualcomm didn't know what hit them.

I'm still waiting for fedex to stop playing kickball with my Mini9 and deliver it already. Atom is a seriously awesome processor.

Where is the VIA NANO????????????????? The Nano pretty much pwned the Atom.

Far diffenrent markets. The 25W Nano is faster than the 5W Atom, but Via has nothing performance competitive in the 2W-5W range used in netbooks (where most Atoms are used). Price isn't even an advantage for Nano since it's almost 3x bigger than Atom and can't be priced anywhere near Atom.

There are 3 Atom chipsets:
22W 945GC used on mini itx boards
4.5W 945GSE used in most netbooks
2.5W US15W used in some netbooks and handhelds

In general, the NB does consume less power than the 5W Atom used in (most?) netbooks. :p Of course the SB for the 945Gxx chipsets uses another couple of watts max too.

I've had an Acer Aspire ONE XP 120gb HDD, 1GB RAM, Aton N270, 3-cell battery edition for awhile now and still love it. The size/weight mean I can carry it with me everywhere very easily, it runs snappily for normal work, and it lasts a good while on battery power. I got it for $250 plus was given a $30 gift card as well, so my total effective cost was $220. I wouldn't mind having the six cell which came out later, but I've had no real want to upgrade anyway. Plus, it uses little power, so I've started just using it instead of my beefy power-hungry gaming rig if I'm just browsing the web or whatnot.

Nano = domination!!! LOL

Nano = Beta in a world of VHS CPUs... ok, that's a weird analogy but true. It doesn't matter if it actually is better, it just doesn't have a chance in the real-world.

Besides, for someone like me, a diehard Intel person because it just works, and coming from a past with experience dealing with VIA products (primarily their *ugh* chipsets), I wouldn't take a VIA based laptop or Netbook or buy one, it's just how it goes.

Atom all the way... especially from that power consumption standpoint which is all important in a Netbook...

Yeah, don't confuse me with the facts my mind is made up. :rolleyes:
When OEM's see there is a place to make money they will use the Nano. The Atom doesn't have to power. I think the NANO will take off seeing that there is a place in the market for it. I think its funny how Intel has one of the biggest R&D departments and little companies keep giving them a run for there money. Long live competition!!! Down with the fanbois!!!!

there is a difference between rooting for the little guy, and hating whoever is on top.
