Oh great, “personalized” spam is on the rise, as if regular spam wasn’t bad enough. :(

Unlike traditional spam, most of which is blocked by e-mail filters, personalized spam, known as "spear phishing" messages, often sail through unmolested. They're sent in smaller chunks, and often come from accounts the criminals have set up at reputable Web-based e-mail services. Some of the messages are expertly crafted, linking to beautifully designed Web sites that are bogus or immediately install malicious programs.

spear fishing? rotfl!
I still don't know how to get a virus, I've tried everything.. and I don't even use an anti-virus program :(

I always get these emails advertising pills to make my penis longer.

How the hell do they know I have a small cock??

Who told them??

And how did they also know that I suffer from low wages and need a d1ploma?

Yeah I got this one the other day.

"Chris, we KNOW you need this penis enlargement and viagra product. Click here for more details about making your penis bigger and harder! "

I was like dammit!! Which bitch ran her mouth? :)

/agree

no this isn't an open invitation, but seriously, i've done my share of virus friendly activities online and have never got anything on my system, no anti virus here either...just the occasionaly run of ccleaner. I really want to know where these people go to actually have these problems.

Forgot to mention the countless spam about hair loss. Oh, and the ones also for "genuine, non-fake "Rolecks" watches (yes I spelled it like that on purpose ;) )

...

Not being sarcastic or trying to pick a bone, but just wondering how you two are so certain you're not infected in the absence of anti-virus software? In my experience, some viruses, such as trojans, don't make their presence immediately obvious. So I can imagine detecting one in the absence of anti-virus software would be a manual process, such as running running ccleaner, hijackthis, and such.

Damn, I kinda sounded like Ms Teen Carolina, using the word "such" so much.

I'm sure lots of people think they are virus free while using no antivirus. I don't think I have ever been infected, but I have had the virus program go off when clicking on a website link.

I get a decent amount of spam. Gmail blocks the links so you cannot click on them (I wanted to try just to experiment). I am quite sure that if I could click them, there would be a good chance of picking up a virus.

Try one and you'll find you indeed have viruses.

I have and I don't. I've ran AVG free, Threatfire, nod32, and kaspersky. No viruses. So don't go telling me I have a virus. I know for a fact I don't.

You said you don't run an antivirus program though. Are you installing these, using them once, then uninstalling them when you find you're clean?

I run them for a period of time and after a while just stop turning them on and eventually just uninstall, because I find they are just resource hogs.
