So.....I got a PS3 for $100 on Ebay.

After how much of an ass you have been on this thread and forum in general you suddenly decide to pop in on something you ruined for an entire community and try to make a profit on it yourself... after complaining about people buying these PS3's for themselves to use for thier own personal use....your now trying to make a profit off of possbile As-Is PS3's and parts that have been fixed? SERIOUSLY? (there is no possible way you are an official Sony repair technician getting parts directly form Sony)

Accept the fact that your holier than thou attitude backfired on you and you got what was coming to you. I sure do hope your auctions cleared $300 so sold_broken was able to pay their employees for the week otherwise you're just a pathetic hypocrite.
 
I just recieved this ps3 with what was listed as an overheating problem.

I tried the video reset several times, and finally got a picture and sound, but I get different graphical errors. I've heard and seen when the sony music plays once, but usually I had to video reset to get a picture.

Sometimes there seems to be snow immediately after I turn it on, sometimes large green boxes appear and disappear, and sometimes it just seems to freeze.
(Theres no hard drive, so this all occurs at the nohd startup screen). Putting a fan on the system seemed to make it worse (at least in the few minutes that I tried). Does that sound like the graphics chip is overheating (fixable with fans), or has overheated and is damaged? Also, where would the best place to put a fan be?

Anyone still having any luck with these? I tried bidding on some when this thread first came out but it seemed like the bid price was getting too high. Im noticing that there are still a lot of them for sale.
 
wasnt sure but i think i bought a used hddvd player A3 for 30.00 from them and works perfectly (least it wasnt cracked like the ps3 i bought which works fine) hell i just purchased a refurb vizio 32" for 420.00 off buy.com today hope i have good luck with it too :) And silverjazz can go bite himself for screwing other people in this thread.
 
Good for you. That looks fun, but I think you got lucky and I'm not going to take that kind of chance. Enjoy yours though.
 
The prices seem to be coming down some from what i noticed. (As in the PS3's aren't usually going for 150+ no matter what type or shape it's in)
I count myself lucky for getting a 60GB PS3 for less than 300 even with sending it in to get repaired. Been using it for almost 1-1.5 months and no problems so far.
May try one of the other items if i can find one that seems repairable.

A question to those who bought from these two sellers.

Did the items come with the warranty seal intact?
 
The 2 I got from both sellers had the seal intact. Sold one and repaired the other. :)

The employees who answered my questions regarding the warranty seal on the item was they couldn't post any additional information and I had to bid at my own risk. I was like WTF?!!? What is so hard about looking at a seal that is above the HD panel so hard about.

Since you guys confirmed they came in great shape and seal intact I can bid with more confidence.

I've emailed them about it and they told me they are all boxed and ready to be shipped when the auction ends.
 
Just wanted to post an update on my console. I used this thread to get one for like 112 off ebay with a no video. Got it and got it working with a video reset and put a 120gb hd in it and it worked just fine for a few months. I hardly ever used it, it just say mostly. I bought Ironman on bluray when that came out and watched it a time or two, thats about it. Well I finally got my first game for it the day after Thanksgiving. Dead Space was on sale for 30, wanted it for 360 but my girl only found it on the ps3 for me. So cool I finally have a ps3 game. We the first couple of times i played it things went just fine. However I did notice that one or two times I would start it up I would have to take the disc out and put it back in to get the ps3 to read it. Eventually I turned it on to play and it would not read the disc at all. Bad bluray diode is what i guessed.

Needless to say I did the warranty exchange deal. Got the box a few days later, sent it back etc. Well yesterday afternoon I check my email and got the email about "hey we dont have a proof of purchase" (obviously i dont have one). Well i called them up and they asked me about it and all i said was it was a gift for christmas. Im pretty sure it was bought around this time but I dont really know. I was put on hold for about 2 mins. Guy comes back "Good news we are going to honor the warranty and are shipping you a replacement unit in the next 24 hours."

So if you have to send your unit back just tell them it was a gift, seems to work.

You can easily get a PS3 through flea bay at a crazy low price that is working but upon initial inspection by the seller appeared to be a dead unit.

Buyer beware -- this is a complete gamble and you are not guaranteed to get a good unit, or even a repairable unit.

I emailed them two times and they replied back to me with the same exact general statement with the exception of who ever was reading and answering emails that day.

kilik64 good find. I've found a few sold by individuals outside the two sellers but I got outbid because it had the right description for the a/v.

I actually read all 47 pages when I stumbled upon the post and was hysterical I didn't research more during the July month I believe UN Inspector revealed the juicy information.

Damn you summer vacation fun! Made miss out on a great deal.

I damn silverjizz for his incompetence.
 
Yea thats around the time i got mine, took a couple of days of watching auctions to get it. I got kinda lucky i guess, especially since it quit working and I got sony to fix it for free.

Its currently on the way back to me. Should be a "new" or so the guy on the phone said. Hope to have it by Wed. I got dead space to play still. Plus the two games i got after thanksgiving. :-(
 
I finally won one of these suckers on eBay. Bidders were ferocious on these items. I was darn lucky today.

I got one for just over 100 dollars without an HD.

Currently weighing my options on what HD to buy for my system once my inspection and diagnosis is complete. I'll update you guys later in the week once its here.
 
haha sounds all like a good deal. i would've done this if i didn't buy a ps3 off of someone local for $200. includes original box, controller, manuals, and it was a 60gb version. in mint condition.

Status Update:

Wow....Glad to see the thread still going.
The PS3 I acquired is alive and well.....no issues to report.
I have the Guitar Hero: World Tour Band Bundle under the tree for it and am pretty excited.
If anyone has any specified questions.....also feel free to PM. :D
 
Anyone buy a used system and find out its been banned from PSN? Is there anyting you can do?
