Any one see this coming? it has some kind of intergration with "life with Playstation"

I'm downloading it now.

Also just started downloading it.. almost done. I was surprised.

Being forced to download it too. I didn't think anyone else was still folding on their PS3's. :D

Its interesting, the live channel allows you to see news around the world while you fold, There is also a folding channel but you dont have to be in it for you ps3 to be folding.

I'm also seeing a new work unit. p5312 or is it that i just have never seen it before?

let us know if there is a bump in ppd. I have a $50 gift card for Amazon.

That take a bite out of it.

It looks like the work the PS3 is going to be doing will be a bit more scientifically useful according to that writeup. They say the PPD should be the same, but it will run a bit slower, but more useful units. I say that's good to hear. I bet they get a few more default folders soon though.

I really like it, they did make it totally over. The music can now play by track and weather channel and news from around the world was really unexpected but so nice. Been folding on my 60Gb playstation 3 since they launched folding up to 852 wu's, hoping get 1000 done by Christmas ( my goal ) and upgraded to 320Gb wd scorpio. :)

Is this going to change the PS3 FAH FAQ? I was looking forward to getting some use out of that soon, has anything changed about setup?

Not that i can see, its all pretty automatic.

Just now the menus are a little different.

I woke up this morning to a froze up PS3. I had to reboot it to get it to work. I hope this is not an omen.

Well, now I don't have internet going to my PS3. Reset the settings and it won't communicate. The box gets an IP address and my internet connection is working fine (as shown by me posting). Anyone else see this?

I got mine set up last night. I need a new TV now;)

Someone said you don't have to be on the folding channel to fold right? Do you have to be in Life with Playstation? I can't really play many games on my new PS3 at the moment because the laser needs to be replaced, but I would like to know at least what I have to do to max out the ppd of the PS3. I am sure screen saver is a no, but other than that I am not sure. Guidance?

No, the screen saver is a yes actually. The standard graphics use up CPU time so the screen saver gives slightly higher PPD.

I'm 99.9% sure as long as you are in either channel your machine's folding.

I checked it out on Sunday. While in Life, The PS3 continues to fold. And I agree
with aldamon that the screen saver is a go. I like the new feature that allows one
to select tracks (albums, playlists, etc.) for music while it it folding. There is a
small hit on ppd while listening to music, but not too bad.

Fold on!

Maybe I haven't pushed all the right buttons, buit I can't find to old fashioned control panel for folding.
Where's my stats?
Wheres my "shutdown upon completion?
Wheres all those options?

Not sure I like this "Life" panel.

Anyone got an obvious answer for a "DUH" moment?

My thoughts exactly. Its folding, but god help me if it locks up or the power goes out and I have to restart. So who wants to tackle the Howto/FAQ for folding with Life? I'm not touching this one.

Move this to wherever need be for it to be useful :p
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enter F@H:
Start up the new Life channel. From the main screen, hold the Square button, then move up to and select Folding@Home.

Setup F@H Information
Hit Triangle to bring up the options menu. Scroll up to "Current Channel". This contains all the PS3 F@H settings. Settings holds the options for Auto Shutdown and User Mode, among other things. Information holds individual and team statistics. Visuals covers all of the visual options. Identity holds your vital user and team information settings.

Side Note
Once you enter the Life channel, if you have folding setup, it is supposed to be running (and for me has been every time), so don't worry if you can't get directly to the screen easily.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spam me if you have more questions.

humm, i noticed that the new life with playstation is getting some different kinds of WU's and the PPD seems to have dropped.. they claimed to have it benchmarked near 1000PPD, but i dont see it happining. although it should be more than that, i think 1000ppd is a rip off for the power of the ps3. @_@

The right place would be the [H]orde Guides obviously. Let me write something with your notes as a starting point as son as I have some time with my PS3. While the old one is so dead easy that a guide is unneeded, the new one is confusing as hell and this warrant a guide... So much for making it easy

It's actually ~900PPD. From what I've seen so far, it's still around there.

Scroll up or in my case down. Man I never would of thought of that one... I guess I'm getting old. Thanks Schenksmill.

ohh yeah i was also wondering how the new ps3 leaderboard system works, i have been folding 24/7 since the upate and im always about 50 points below the top 100..

i still think that the ps3 should get more points, its got lots of power and it folds more complex protiens.. comeon'! give us ps3 folders more points, otherwise im just gonna play call of duty 4! :D

You don't have your PS3 on a UPS? I don't fold with mine any more, but the UPS was a life saver when I did. It's also nice to know I won't lose progress in a game during a power blip.

No, I never bothered buying a UPS. Where I live, when the power goes out, there,s no UPS that will last long enough.

I got the same problem at my cottage... But the UPS gives me 30-45min to realize there is a power outage and shut down the PS3 cleanly.
