DoubleSight DS-265W Official discussion!

I think I am going to wait on some reviews before ordering. Meh. I hate having to be patient.

I just called Provantage and they said they had an expected ship date of September 18/19.

WTF? Honestly, this is straight up ridiculous. I'm calling DoubleSight to complain - they've been very unprofessional about all these expected dates. I remember when the news first came out, I called DoubleSight and they said I could expect to get it around the end of July.

are you in the US Peock, I am. It could be that they are trying to get all local shipped out before international.

I would not be surprised if we do not see these until October-November.

At this point, Planar looks like a much better deal. I got a Planar 19-inch in 2001 and it still looks great. I remember paying $656 for it back then. Great viewing angles, sharp text, satisfactory gaming perfomance... Frankly, I am a bit disappointed that after 7 years, I would be paying more than that for a 66% larger screen with 75% more pixels.

Unless, of course, I get a TN garbage where picture changes depending if you crincle your forehead. (I swear, I do not know how people can take it)

An then, of course, there is the other extreme, everyone on this board recommending dropping $1200 on the NEC.

I mean, how hard is it:
(1) Good viewing angles (ie.e not TN)
(2) Reasonable input lag (i.e. not Samsung/Dell)
(3) Looks like a monitor and not like an ugly shelf (i.e. not BenQ FP241VW)
(4) Is available in the US (i.e. not HP LP2475, apprently not DS-265w either)
(5) Does not cost arm+leg

Impossible, it seems. Maybe I will just wait for my 19-inch to croak.

Well I think I'm going to wait till this weekend and cancel if it doesnt show as shipped. HP 24" was my next choice.

Yeah what do I do now ? Wait another 2 months for the the DS 265W? or
just go ahead and by the Planer PX2611? GRRRR ... im stuck now.

I am in the US, smesx.

And now... completely different from what the guy on the phone told me a few hours ago, I just got an email that said an expected ship date of October 16th.

If DoubleSight confirms this on the phone with me, I'm going to give them an earful about how they've lost my business. This is just plain stupid. I suggest other people call, too - because I bet we'll all get different responses - at least that's the way the last 3 months have gone.

You guys need to chill out. For starters they never gave a release date everything here has been rumors. Did anyone talk directly to DS and get a date? If I remember someone said they DS said beginning of Sept was when they were looking to have it out, but no hard release date. 2ndly if this monitor turns out to be a GOOD IPS then it is worth the wait. I'm tired of going ooo new posts on this topic, maybe there are some reviews or it is out, when it is just more people crying about why they don't have one.

videogamer323, actually, I was directly told repeatedly from DS employees the dates of when the monitor was expected. Each of their dates have come and gone, and now most resellers are listing a date of Oct 16th (I've yet to call DS and confirm this).

Maybe to you, waiting for this new monitor is simply a matter of being patient. I, however, am in need of a monitor for graphic design work at my agency (my old one died) and have been putting up with a small TN panel for some time now (with direct negative consequences to my work) for the sake of waiting for this monitor. So, I am making detrimental decisions based on DS's blatant exaggeration (for their own self-interest) of the release date of this monitor. This is incredibly bad business and an entirely appropriate reason to be quite upset.

doublesight just updated there site. no hdmi seems confirmed as speculated. The HP is becoming more and more likely every second for me.

October...... Doublesight is sketchy as hell.

I have an email from DS stating mid august in my inbox. They also tried to dance around the polarizer issue by stating that ALL the 263ns had polarizers. My question was very specific about what kind of polarizer. They are acting like bait and switch ebay scammers.

Sketchy sketchy. Looks like a planar or NEC for me. The NEC is looking like the best option for hassle free quality....

How disappointing. All they had to do was be honest and they would have made money off me. I don't really trust them at this point.

I gave them too much benefit of the doubt.

Seriously, when's the last time integrated speakers (replacing HDMI for fucks sake) has ever been a good sign? The "let's not tell anyone it's delayed" reeks of Monarch syndrome.

agreed. i dont mind the delay, but as someone said, the dates have come and gone.
the speakers are another item. cheap integrated speakers or HDMI... hmm
i suppose for their target market, the HDMi is not needed, remember, they build for offices and control centers that need, well double sight (err two monitors)

but i was looking for the 2 inch increase over the HP, oh well. HP is looking like the best IPS deal now. its almost out in the states and has been out across the pond, and prices have been confirmed to be 100 lower then DS and thats all that we need.

so save 100 bucks and get 2 inches less and no integrated speakers and has an HDMI for those who care (not I) and you also get a 6 port USB hub.

not to mention the displayport to futureproof the LCD.

Displayport can transmit a DVI signal, so it's unlikely that any monitor will go obsolete due to inputs before the display itself dies.

What is the model number of the Hewlett Packard monitor that some people are considering as a good alternative to the delayed DS?

Yeah!! and thats BS !! ...Why does the egg always get these monitors ahead of
places like Provantage. Samething happened with the DS- 263N . Provantage
is the only place i can order from . The only place that will ship to Canada.

Why are they reporting HDMI on the DS- 265W when it doesnt include it.?

wow, it actually says "In Stock"

now the big question is, are 100 bucks worth the extra 2 inches? will you feel it?

I just don't get how it can be in stock ????? someone explain to me?
Didnt doublesight move the date back again? and provantage says they
are not getting these in stock untill next month sometime.

$100 is almost always worth it for an extra 2" of monitor - provided you aren't already getting unmanageably large. Recall that the area will increase at a much faster rate, and is what will be most perceptible anyway.

Not sure why it says hdmi on newegg. Doublesights website says no hdmi which is why I ended up canceling my order and getting the HP. Too much uncertainty for me to trust. I still hope it turns out to be a good monitor. And by the way when I called to cancel my order with provantage they said it was still going to ship out tomorrow (9/5) but when I asked them about the new backorder date they seemed pretty confused.

I really wanted this monitor until I heard it had no HDMI. Man if this thing does I will be all over it. If not, guess I'll have to settle for a
Hanns·G HG-281DJB from the egg :(

I hope someone buys the thing so we can find out for sure if it has the A-TW polarizer or not.

I am so bloody confused about what this monitor actually offers and how good it'll be...

i think hes talking about the mixed messages on HDMI, provantage/newegg and other retailers say it does have hdmi. Doublesight.com says it doesnt.

Most likely doesnt have HDMI , i'd go by what doublesight says on the web page.

i was about to post that.
Yes that IS a HDMI to DVI cable from the looks of it.

but the MI also does look like HDMI.

so lets reason this out for a second (or email new egg and ask then to open up that picture a bit that lists the MI)

Would you use an HDMI-DVI cable from the PC to a monitor? or would you use the cable from an HDMI source to the monitor? there is only 1 DVI input.

That's what she said.

see what i did there? :p:p

Newegg has been known to be wrong and not list HDCP or HDMI when it was on the product, or vice versa (listing it as being a feature that doesn't actually exist).

Nothing new there. The image does seem to indicate an HDMI port to the left, but there doesn't actually seem to be a connector there (?????) and you'll notice both DVI and VGA have the connectors wider than the text (ie. the text is in the middle of the connector and smaller than the width of the connector).

Weird!

Still looks like a good screen though.
