Service pack 3?

Can't see any reason not to install it. I've installed it on probably a dozen or so of my and my family's and friend's computers and it's also the first thing I do to a client's computer when I see that they are still running SP2. Never had a single issue.

There were a few known issues such as installing on HP boxes that had AMD processors but I'm pretty sure even that's been fixed by now.

I don't really see how it could be "glitchy" as they really didn't change anything. I think of it as more of a comprehensive update package than a "Service Pack" which I tend to associate with at least a few new features and/or enhancements.

I wouldn't rush out to install it or make it a priority, if your current rig is up to date with Windows updates. Install it when you have a chance.

Basically it's more beneficial to new workstation deploys..you can install Sp2..and then 3.. (or slipstream right to 3)...and you're closer to ready to deploy with SP3. Versus...SP2 plus another 2 hours of a TON of windows updates.

Should i Or Should I not Install it. I hear it is quite glitchy.

You hear the latest updates for XP rolled up into 1 are glitchy? Not that I've seen on my end in anyway. I've applied it manually as well as slipped into fresh builds, works like a champ.

Idunno why but, it was available on my laptop via live update. then I tried to install it and it complained I wasn't connected to ac power. so I plugged it in clicked ok and i've yet to see it offered again.

never had a problem, installed on at least 20 systems in the past few weeks without a problem

I've put it on a few systems with no trouble at all. I don't see a reason not to install it unless there is a known problem with some type of mission critical application you may have running.

I migrated a couple of hundred computers, not a single issue to report

If you have a volume license you can just download the xp pro iso with sp3 already installed.

We have been pushing it down to a bunch of are clients systems. Doesn't seem to be causing any issues. All of are new machines are loaded with sp3 as well.

i install it on at least 5 pc's a day. No problems what so ever, only time i dont install it if the machine has 256mb of ram. Then i tell the customer to upgrade the ram them install it :D

every computer that i've install sp3 have no glitchy problem whatsoever..... plus, i have 3 computers running sp3 with no problems either

I'll chime in with the majority. SP3 has been successfully installed on every employee systems so far. Still more computers to go in the company, but I only bother with those who brings them to me for other issues or software installations.

SP3 for XP is probably the least troubling service pack I can ever remember messing with. The previous two service packs for XP did have trouble and caused a number of conflicts with software but I haven't personally heard any of that for SP3 which to me seems to be a small miracle.

Yup...or an MSDN. :D

Talkin 'bout for the average user though.

backup your stuff, slipstream it onto a new XP cd, and do a fresh install. i've NEVER liked doing SP installs on an already installed OS. just seems to open up pandora's box with some programs.

I slipstreamed sp3 into my XP install disc- good stuff.

It's so nice to have your fresh install of an OS be almost up to date, and only have to download a few things from windows update.

except .NET shit.... I refuse to install it. If any program requires it, I don't use the program :p
