thats a very hot deal, i wish i had the money for it but im cheap :( still stuck on a crt :(

Nice deal, I might have to pick one of these bad boys up, my 20" is starting to feel small.

Is there a way you could change that referral link in the OP? SlickDeals is great, but I don't think they need any more money than they already have.

Anyone have any experience with these? Seems like a real good price, but I always believe you get what you pay for.

wats up with hdcp ?

HDCP is necessary if you're going hook up a Blu-ray player, PS3 or Xbox 360 to your monitor through a digital connection. This monitor is NOT HDCP compatible, so you can't. That's not a big deal though, since this monitor only has 1 DVI port and 1 VGA port. Since you're most likely gonna use the DVI port for your comp, you won't have additional digital connections to use with HDCP anyway. The Xbox 360 can be connected via analog, not sure about the PS3.

One other thing, this monitor doesn't have 1:1 scaling. So it will stretch any resolution to fit its screen.

Now, having said that, I have the P-MVA version of this monitor and I abso-freaking-lutely love it. Lack of HDCP and 1:1 has gone unnoticed to me now and probably into the foreseeable future.

A good CRT still looks better than most LCD monitors. I don't know how good/bad the Soyo is (though the price makes me think it's a cheap TN), but I've got the latest Dell 24", which isn't a cheap monitor, and it's ok, but I kinda wish I'd just paid the extra 400 or so and gotten the NEC.

O wow, and I just bought that Emprex 26" from Fry's. Might return it and get this since it would be $100 for only 2" less

wow - I totally disagree

I have the Soyo Topaz S version of this 24. It's an 8bit M-PVA panel -- sold for $279 for a long time. It's the best monitor I've ever had and I've had a VERY nice hitachi CRT professional monitor .22 DPI 100hz refresh for most any resonable resolution.

This 8 bit Soyo Topaz S is the best looking LCD monitor I've ever seen. I've seen those 500$ Samsung 24" monitors at my work --- 6 bit = crappier no matter how nice the bezel is. I'll take my Soyo over any monitor I've ever seen for the price/performance ratio.

That being said i THINK the ones linked here are six bit. Look for the older Topaz S models that were 8 bit in the actual store...lots of stores still have them - 6MS rather than 2 or 3 like the new ones.

u can play games on a 360 via hdmi to dvi on a non hdcp monitor, just cant watch videos

I just got back from Office Max... I can honstly say I am so glad I didnt bite on this. I know the source they use for display's is horrible, so you will never see how good a monitor is until you have it at home, but still that monitor looked really really bad compared to some of the others next to it.

If you're looking for a cheap monitor and dont really care about quality then I think it will be fine, but if you want just a shred of quality this monitor is not for you.

do people actually play their consoles on their monitors?
I thought the point of having a console instead of just using your PC was for you to chill out in front of a big screen with your friends

My friend plays his 360 on his computer monitor. PC hooked up thru the DVI and the 360 on the VGA. 24 inch monitor with a console isnt that bad at all.

lamb110 Gawd's - crappy monitor statement.

^bah...they run the crappiest source material through those monitors at office max.

I think it's got to be like 320x200 video feed or something.

24" has the highest resolution of 1920 x 1200 of anything they have there.

so naturally any crappy source of a small resolution is going to look the absolute worst when scaled to that pixel count.

I've seen several soyo's in person, of all different sizes, when connected to a PC I've not seen a disappointing one yet. Even the 6bit panels (that one they have for $149.99) 21.6" widescreen with gloss finish --- looks darn good hooked up to my friends PC (better than I expected for a cheap 6 bit panel.)

This is tempting.. mainly because I got a $30 coupon.

So it'd end up at $195 + tax... for a 24" o_O

I already got 2 8bit MVA Soyos... this would just be an extra to resell or somethin... D=

I just find that black levels on LCDs are less than great. Nevertheless, great price if for MPVA, so long as you don't need the HDCP that someone mentioned before....and even then, I assume you could go analog out for BD movies.

3ms means this is a TN panel and not an MVA. Who cares for $225 but it is indeed a TN.

You should know that the soyo 24 is NOT good to hook up to consoles. It doesn't have a scaler. Or whatever. I think that's the deal.

I don't really know that much cause I don't use consoles or television but while researching this monitor before I bought it everyone seemed to say it doesn't work with the playstation or xbox... maybe that's just for hd I'm not sure, but I just wanted to save someone the trouble.

Also has anyone mentioned this is only the TN version? ;)

Honestly though I would just walk into officemax and see if they have any older 6ms boxes and try to walk out with one of those for the same price. If the box isn't strung up with a sound device you can even open the box to check the mfg date. Anything 11/07 or earlier is the good stuff. AFAIK some officemaxes still have these.

Type: 24.0” color TFT active matrix WUXGA LCD
Display Area:
Optimum Resolution: 1920x1200 Native Resolution
Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
Viewing Angle: 178°(H), 178°(V)
Light Source: 40,000 hours (typ)
Response Time: 2ms
Brightness: 500 nits (typ)
Display Colors: 16.7 million
Pixel Pitch: 0.270mm
Frequency: Fh: 30 kHz – 80 kHz; Fv: 50 Hz – 75 Hz
Bandwidth: 135MHz

These are the specs right from Soyo's site....someone mentioned it was 3ms but the specs say 2ms.

It doesn't come with the DVI cable so that is a minus in my book. But for the price how can you go wrong?

Ordered 2 of these for work. These will only hooked up to a low end desktop in a bright office. In other words I could care less about HDCP, black levels, or internal scalars. So for this price the LCD is perfect.

I ordered one of these for myself and one for my boss on the company card. Putting one on his desk changes this order from a waste of money to a good investment. :p

There's NOTHING not to like about this monitor. I've had mine for just about a year now, never had a single problem or dead pixel. The color balance is beautiful, price was right, and it's friggin huge. Easily hooks up to my Xbox (original, modded w/ XBMC) via VGA adapter. Mine is def a P-MVA panel, not TN. Seriously you cannot go wrong with the Topaz S.

help me out guys? :D

I want to bite on this as I am in the market for a 24", but trying to decide if the price difference is worth it for G2400. I game (FPS mostly) and I watch movies on the screen and am right now on a TN 19" and I am satisfied with the viewing angles. Would this be worth it to go with instead of the Benq since they are both TN?

Friends?

I know what you mean about the scaling thing. I don't know a whole lot of technical stuff about monitors either, but my friend has a 24" samsung TN panel without the scaling too. It stretches the pixels vertically so it makes the display look a bit messed up. :/

so tempting...

Better act fast if you still want this. No longer available online so no more $25 off via paypal. Called them and they have it on backorder. Its only available at the store level for $249.99 now.

I tried to buy online and when in my cart it says this item has been discontinued but click find store to see if it is available at a local store.

So it appears dead online but you may have luck instore...
