I'm in dire need on a public computer. I hooked up my system with all brand new gear as follows:

E8400
P5Q-D
Corsair 4gb DDR2 Dominators
8800GTS (G92)
Xonar D2X

and I then plugged in my Raptor 150GB that has XP (32-bit) from my old system in SATA1(top red one). The system loads the "Express Gate" but fails at the OS. I went into the BIOS and it said SATA: WD150... so I changed that to the first boot priority. Still nothing. I'm almost ready to give out my cell for help, because all of my roommates are gone and the computer lab is closing.

Also I have a Thermalright eXtreme 120 that seems to be hot at 36C load. I can't screw it in any tighter, but can still move it around (this seems to be another issue).

I've built my share of computers before but something like this always goes wrong. Is there something I'm missing?

A couple of things to try

Have you tried setting the SATA controller to IDE or AHCI?
Disable the network controller boot from LAN

Funny you should mention the loose Extreme 120.
I emailed Thermalright support about the exact same issue and got this reply from them:

"Hi,

And I have answered you at least once and sent one of your emails to Taiwan,
for their reply. It seems you didn't like my answer, when I said that was
normal and it wouldn't hinder performance, well the answer is the same this
time as well.

Thermalright Support,

Bob"

Not only was this guy's reply totally rude and obnoxious, this was the first time I had sent the question to them.
Even If I am wrong, and had asked before, is THIS the way to treat a customer?

For anyone considering heatsink purchases, I just want you to know how your support questions may be fielded at Thermalright.

This was a horrible, miserable way to reply to a business email, and I was very offended.

"...well the answer is the same this time as well."

Yes, that was definitely my "favorite part" of his reply.

Thank you so much, Mr. Thermalright tech support for your professional handling of my technical support inquiry!!!!

I still don't have a real answer to why the Extreme 120 is loose.

Question, can you just take a loaded hard drive and plug it into a new computer or do you have to erased the partitions and install a fresh OS?

Answer, If it's the same chipset and processor manfg., you have a pretty good chance of it working. If it's not the same parameters, there are various other half-assed methods that may make it work to to your satisfaction. ;)

Question; What about the HS? :D
