Dang, you're right, I can get it to me in the Bay Area CA, for $449.00 shipped! Do you know if this thing has USB ports or not?

Considering the target audience I find the lack of USB disappointing.

hey the introduction promo price is only $409. I think it's excellent deal. TN is not that bad for gaming after all you got 2ms response time plus HDMI.

It's $409 plus shipping and maybe tax which will bring it to almost $500 and it doesn't even have USB ports! I haven't had a monitor for a month now as I was waiting for the updated 2408 A01.

409 USD? It costs ~540 USD in Czechia (643 USD including VAT). What a robbery! Well, it could be worse :)

Btw, I read it has only VGA cable included, not DVI, nor HDMI. So additional costs.

I have to say that I think this monitor looks pretty strange.

BenQ seems to wanna show that they now are intrested in design but make amateurish misstakes when they overdo it. It may be a unique thing to make it unsymmetrical. On the orther hand there is a reason why others don't.

I am pretty sure that everyone will think this looks ugly in a 1-2 years. I allready do.

And I assume that it is the ugly design that is the reason for the high prize which makes it a very easy decisionwhether to buy this or not.

Do you guys honestly buy monitors for the usb ports? Thats the last thing on my list. Overall, I think its a pretty good value. Even the cheapest of 24" TN panels will run you around 400 bucks.

C'mon, I know you know the answer to this question. Of course we don't buy monitors soley for the USB ports, but nowadays, that's just standard equipment on monitors. From a cost perspective, how much more would it cost BenQt to add a couple of USB ports??!?!?! You want to charge $400+ dollars and not include USB ports but will include a speaker jack? C'mon BenQ, you should know better!

Do people buy cars just for Air conditioning...maybe..... but today, it's pretty much expected that most cars have A/C as part of the standard package.

Well, my monitor does not have USB, but one does not buy H-IPS for USB ports, does he? :)

But from the marketing perspective, the absence of USB ports in unlucky from the BenQ's point of view, because this is a feature, which looks nice in lame reviews and in on-line LCD lists.

Hey, at least they didn't include built-in speakers lol. They only included the speaker jack due to the HDMI input. While I do agree USB ports would be a plus, no way is it a deal breaker. Invest in a $15 dollar USB hub if you feel otherwise. :p Oh, and I don't think it was so much a cost perspective but that they didn't want to add more bulk to the monitor.

Waste of a sticky, maybe $$$ was involved...

This lcd isn't even ground breaking (just another TN), maybe if it was a 24" OLED or something...

Ugh seems like the stand cannot be removed and there are no mounting holes on the back for arms or anything.... ill pass

It looks like a downgrade from my BenQ FP241W. I've had my BenQ 24" for over a year now, probably about 18 months. It was pristine when I got it, no dead pixels, no backlight bleeding. Perfectly build. Best LCD I've ever used. The only improvement it could have is that while it's very good, it could still be a bit better in dark games/night time games where there are lots of blacks and gradients of black. Typically I would definitely recommend BenQ again, and have recommended the FP241 many times

But this new one....
Less brightness
Less viewing angle
Less ergonomic adjustment
Less inputs
No USB hub
Says it's glossy, sorry, I don't feel the need to see the reflection of my face and everything behind me while using my computer, I'd put a mirror there if that were the case.

It does list a faster pixel response, but I have no ghosting now, I don't see the value in improving that parameter while sacrificing all these others.

This new display, launching a year and a half later... makes me wonder whyyyy? It should be better!

I think BenQ produces it damn cheap. they will probably make more money on selling this one for 10K then FP241W for 15K (in Czech crowns).

Initially, I was 'WoW!' when I saw this monitor but after reading other people's posts and thinking more about the specs, this thing is really not worth $400+

BenQ is selling this thing at that price point solely on the aesthetics and not on the functionality of the LCD. Now if a company could combine the form and function and keep it at this price point then you would probably have a winner. Dell - Please for the love of GOD, fix your 2408WFP in Rev A01 so I can get a damn monitor already.

Judgement: Pass

Well, maybe it is a good monitor (compared to other TNs). Too bad Prad.de will most likely not review it (it seems they are not at good terms with BenQ).

BenQ V2400W Specification looks good, but I have to agree with "Menelmarar" on his words

But the look of this monitor it self doesn’t look so good with that cheap silver plastic stand & buttons on the front, What I don't understand is why the BenQ Designers are using a silver paint job in the first place!.

In my opinion silver always look cheap on a Monitor just like the Samsung 226BW had. I just hope in future all the Monitor manufacturers will use a aluminum Design and not sliver paint.

I guess I'm in the minority here, I like the looks of it, cant really comment much on the functionality of it just from looking at pictures. Lack of mounting holes to mount it on a stand is the main drawback of the design that I see, but I dont use a stand

I have no problem with the looks of it, even the "offset" stand.

I don't particularly like the non-removable stand, but I guess there are a number of compromises with making a super-slim panel, such as the lack of USB ports.

If the panel is nearly of the same quality of the G2400W it should be a good gaming screen, especially with the inclusion of overdrive. The G2400W generally has low backlight bleed, and for a TN, decent viewing angles.

As far as I know the bezel is piano black glossy and the panel is matte, so it's not a total glare fest like the HP W2408H.

I read the Trusted Review, but I am generally not a huge fan of their monitor reviews. Too much flash and not enough in-depth coverage of the monitor's capabilities. A good "preview" but not much more.

My questions would centre around:

1) Toggle for overdrive and any overdrive artifacts such as inverse ghosting, or large rise in input lag?
2) Dynamic contrast settings (whether they cannot be turned on or off, or if there are different levels)
3) Out-of-the box color calibration and gamma settings
4) Quality of pre-sets
5) Head-to-head with it's older brother > BenQ G2400W
6) Brightness modulation > Can it go as dark as 140cdm/2?
7) Contrast - Does it look washed out or are the colors properly saturated?

Hopefully somebody will get their hands on this one and check it out right!

Regards,

Hey 10e, I've been trolling the forums on the BenQ G2400W and read many of your posts which were all quite informative and now I'm very near about to pull the trigger on the G2400WD. I recommended that you be one of the reviewers on the other thread for the V2400. In your opinion, do you think the G2400W is the best 24 inch TN out right now?

I'm a little confused. You just got done saying that the V2400W is not worth $400. But you are willing to spend the same amount on the G2400WD which is the exact same monitor with a different bezel? Same panel, same features, same everything except the casing.

Yes, that's right, I would as I'm an extremely fickle person. I went from Dell to Doublesight to BenQ and now I'm back to Dell/BenQ again- all in two weeks. Yes, I don't think it's worth $400, but I need a monitor and will buy it and complain and whine every step of the way.

In all honesty though, I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME, MAKE UP MY MIND ON WHICH 24 INCH MONITOR I WANT TO BUY! ANYONE ELSE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME????

Another TN panel?

Ugh. Pass......
qft. i got 2 mva 24 inch 1920x1200 displays for $481. which is still less than the mrsp for just one of these benq's ;)

i remember when benq had their first 24 inch lcd back in 2003/2004 and i wanted one so bad (it was around 1200 then). i wouldn't mind a thin bezel like benq's but at this point the deal i got for my 2 24's is no comparison (not to mention better screen).

i'll get a thin bezel when oleds become affordable! :D :p ;)

First off, thanks to everyone in these threads for posting their reviews and experiences.

I just bought and immediately returned a V2400W from Benq direct. I had read 10e's glowing review of its "older brother," the G2400W, and had high hopes that Benq would have corrected the issues that some users had with it with this new model. Unfortunately, they didn't.

I purchased this monitor primarily to use with my 360 and PS3, so how it handled 1080p was of prime importance to me. I decided against the G2400W because of its inability to perform 1:1 pixel mapping over VGA and its "noise" in the unused portion of the screen with 1080p over HDMI (check the G2400W thread for pictures). I called Benq tech support and talked to "Steve," who assured me that the V2400W could do 1:1 over VGA and had no issues with 1080p over HDMI. Feeling confident, I called the Benq online store and placed my order.

To my disappointment, "Steve" was sorely mistaken. The V inherited both of these flaws undiminished from the G series. The VGA-issue was forgivable, but after seeing the "noise" with HDMI, I had to return the monitor. It's difficult to describe, but still photos can't capture the weird shimmer effect of these lines/waves/pixels. It's not too noticeable in a normally lit room, but in a dark room, it's extremely distracting. The smallest head movement gives the viewer the same illusion that old "hologram" trading cards did. That's the best way I can think of to describe it.

The monitor itself looked and felt very high-end. I wish I could share my experiences with color, lag, etc. but I shipped it back to Benq before I got that far with my "review."

Hope this helps.

Best,
lostsupper

I should also mention that Benq committed an error in shipping. I placed my order on Tuesday, with the understanding that "2nd day afternoon" would have it to me Thursday or at the latest Friday.

When I hadn't received a tracking number or the monitor by Friday, I called Benq and was told that they did not have any shipping information for my order number. I asked the CSR for clarification--had the order not shipped or had Benq no information to share. The CSR seemed very confused, but told me that since the monitor was in stock, there was no reason to expect that it had not shipped. I told him that I had expected delivery by then, to which he responded "if we get any information, we'll email it to you."

Because of the holiday, the monitor arrived Tuesday...the same day Benq emailed my a tracking number. Now I'm trying to have my original shipping cost refunded, due to the incorrect information I was given by their tech support department. They refunded me the difference between "ground" and "2nd day afternoon" already, but I'd very much like for them to issue a full refund. It's bad enough that I have to pay to RMA the monitor that I purchased on the assurance of an ill-informed tech support agent.

I'll update this as soon as I hear from Benq.

Best,
lostsupper

I think I just ended up being one of the lucky ones that has a darker set of "squirmy lines" at the bottom and top.I don't understand why it's only 1080p. Not 1080i, not 720p or 480p.

Sorry to hear your experience was definitely *less than satisfactory* Lostsupper. Maybe there is a way for us to "help" BenQ address these flaws to make the experience closer to perfect. In that regard, I guess the G2400WD has these issues as well.

Good luck with getting the RMA for free.

Regards,

10e

The monitor looks pretty sweet, no USB but then again I use the ones on the front of my rig. I wonder if it could survive a trip of 500 miles to NVision LAN in San Jose this summer?
