I got home with GTA IV 30 minutes ago, took a shower, asked off for the next 2 days to play the game, and guess what!? MY XBOX IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN YOU XBOX GOD! YOU GAVE ME THE RED RINGS!:( :( I can't play GTA IV for weeks.... at least the rep at Microsoft was nice about it.

*Waits for the UPS man to come in 5 days*

I was so in debate about should I get it for my ps3 or 360...then I thought "this one will kill my 360"

Ouch.

That sucks bru. Sorry =[

If that happened to me, id either borrow a friends until I got mine back from repair, or just go buy a new one straight out.

I feel your pain though, one of my 360s is the 7th ive gotten back from MS repair. I know all too well the hassle involved.

dang man i think ive read like 5 other ppl that posted about this............very sad. maybe the xbox is scared of the game? mine is the 2005 model still no rrod. :)

Sadly, no friends near me owns an xbox, so looks like I hafta disconnect myself from the internet, and my ps3 buddies to avoid spoilers. :(

Fake? How dare you accuse me of this fraud in my time of distress sir?

on a serious note, generally how long does it take for it to be repaired? The rep said 3-4 weeks, but that seems like an awfully long time.

Depends on where you live, The repair facility is here someplace in texas, so for me it was fairly quick, a tad bit over 7 days.

One of my friends had his Elite's drive start going wonky (it was really loud and scratchy) and they actually sent him a brand new one after 2 weeks. It might depend on what's wrong or even what model you have.

I live in Dallas, Texas. And I got the system in 07, when it was just the core and premium bundles.

Dallas as well here, if you got the box on a monday, and dropped it off at the UPS center that same monday, fairly early, youre looking at getting it back around the following tues or wed at the latest.

Some of my returns were about 7 days, the latest was about 9.

The repair facility is in Waxahache or something.

Not suprisng, I'm on my 6th 360. All within 1 year after getting it. My current one has been running strong.

Sorry to hear that happened to you man. Aparantly there are some freezing issues on the PS3 60gb model. Maybe they should've made this game on pc instead :p

im lazy i have a launch model, and it has RROD like 6 or 7 times, I just use the towel trick and bam! it works again, but i rarely use it now anyway, games on the PS3 have been keeping my interest, and i plan on picking up gta4 tomorrow after i get paid

that sucks about your RROD, try the towel trick until UPS comes perhaps?

this game is pretty intense on the gpu and drive and hd - lots of caching and crap going on, i can see alot more reports or dieing 360's coming up soon!

Damn, that sucks..

I still have my original premium, I think I got it 2 years ago? May be a year. I did get a red ring once, but I didn't think it was RROD. I think it was only one ring (or maybe 2 alternating, I don't really remember, didn't know of RROD back then). Luckily I was able to boot up 2 minutes later, and it hasn't happened sense. I haven't touched my Xbox in forever though, booted up the other day just fine, played some DoA 4.

Getting GTA IV in 2 hours, hope everything goes well :p

If I had a dollar for every time someone mentioning that their xbox/ps2/ps3/GC/Wii/whatever died on the same day of a major release...

That really sucks, though. I remember when my xbox 1 choked when Halo 2 came out (had to be a release model with one of those shitty Thomson drives ).

As a matter of fact, I had a 360 RROD the same day I got it (it was my first and it was my HS grad. present ). Had that replaced, 2nd one died. On my third one, but I get an E68 (one red light) error on every cold boot.

If it weren't for the great games I would have dumped this POS system a long time ago. God, this is like the Ford Pinto of video game consoles.

I thought I had the RROD when I powered my first Premium on to test it prior to selling it to a co-worker. I plugged it in to make sure it would power up (hadn't been used for months, since I got my Elite) and got some red rings. Luckily, they were the ones indicating I didn't have the video cables plugged in...whew!

exactly why I bought it for PS3 instead of 360. my 360 isn't dead but i know this game will kill it

I got my xbox returned back to me by ups from Microsoft this morning. I was pissed of when it died 2 weeks ago thinking it might not be back in time for gta, but luckily i only missed 9 hours of possible play time :p

hehe... I know two people that did exactly the same thing, instead their PS3s died when playing the game. :D

(Yeah, I know that's unusual - I just found it fairly amusing)

My 360 died about a week ago. Yesterday Microsoft said they received it and this morning it was listed as being sent back to me. Pretty fast turnaround. Waiting for UPS is what is taking the longest (since I live in Michigan). Figures my box would go bad when GTA comes out (one of the reasons I bought a 360 was because of GTA).

Woot! A week after sending my xbox to the repair center (which is about 30 mins away from me), its being sent to me!

Sell that xbox and get a PS3! I get rarely get pop in, if I do its usually windows on a building. Not a single freeze/crash either. and my load times are between 5-10 seconds

/ends fanboyism

Wow.... not only fanboyism but thread crapping as well. Nowhere in this thread did I see anybody complain about pop-in, and yet the PS3 police shows up to call out random negatives about the 360 while they cluelessly play their rich library of a dozen subpar titles.

/anti-fanboyism

As far as the hardware failure the OP speaks of... that is some luck man. :p Thankfully I've never experienced any bad 360s.

All I know is that it makes my PS3 heat up like no other game has. I can't imagine what it's doing to the internals of the 360's.

But I'll probably end up picking up a copy anyway for the Downloadable content, if it's really worth it.

LOL. mine did the same thing. bought the ps3 version to hold me off til my xbox 360 copy came in. Spent 3 hours on it trying to get it to load. Now it plays great. Received my xbox 360 version of gta 4 in last wednesday. Put it in wed night and my 360, which is the hdmi version and only 3 months old, took a dump. No RROD but hard locks on initial startup on the x that comes across the screen. I called microsoft immediately and my empty box arrived friday morning. Sending it back today. In the meantime, i purchased an arcade version at circuitcity to hold me off til mine comes back since it too has hdmi. I noticed it is way quieter and my defective unit.

Mine kept freezin up at the same spot everytime I stopped at the amusement park for the 'First Date' mission. Mine is out of waranty, so I took the entire Xbox apart and cleaned it out with air, and put it back together, everything workse fine now. Was a decent amount of dust in the heatsinces and fans.
