Monster Cable Threatens The Wrong Guy

Blue Jeans Cable is NOT the cheapest, nor do they try to be. Blue Jeans Cable is a VALUE seller. They sell a quality cable at a fair price. They don't go after the ulta-primo I'm willing to pay a huge marketup for a 1% improvement crowd nor ar they after the ZOMG a cable should be $0.03 crowd.

This is a niche market...sorta like Goodyear Tires. However, they do it right and sell it for the right price.

As a piece of information. If you as a consumer would buy the raw materials and tools to craft the same cables, you could not break even if you made a few dozen cables. This is how well priced their product is....

Ive been using Blue Jeans Cables for about 7 months now. Quality for a great price that Monster cant even compete with at their HORRENDOUSLY high price point. I can see why Monster is up in arms :)

QFT - I've been using Canare connectors on Belden cable for about ten years. Never a single problem. Use to be a guy on the web that would custom make them to any length you want. I wonder if this is the same guy, evolved into a nice full time cable biz?

And great read - the freaking rocks.

That is 7 different levels of awesome. As long as they're competitively priced, he'll get my business from now on.

X2. even if they're not the cheapest they're getting my business.

Monster is so owned, They've got at least one Tiger by the tail and in this case, this Cat has claws and teeth, Monster could've spelled their own demise as Justice and the IRS should be sicked on Monster too(Possible Tax Evasion maybe?). :D And yeah It was a good long read, wow.:)

I am thoroughly impressed by this letter. I know very little about IP law, but this response reeks of "eat me." I absolutely loved it. I only hope that I can construct a letter with half that quality after 19 years of experience (I have a whopping 1 year now). Really good show.

im speechless...

how the **** does monster respond to that? completely owned i think lol

Dammit someone got pwned...and it was Monster in this case.

It should be reversed. Kurt is the "Monster". Bet they didn't expect this one when they fired off their little crappy drone lawyer letter. :p

This was great. I hope we get to hear a little bit of a follow up on this. Although I have a feeling this will be one of those things that just falls away.

Even though, it is nice to see somebody finally stand up to another company. Especially when he states that he would rather spend $50,000 on defense than give them a single penny. Most would probably just say, its cheaper to pay $0.03 per cable and just be done with it. It is that which gives most fo those companies fuel to keep up their bull shit of going after anyone and everyone they can.

Wow, one hell of a great letter. Threatens Monster with Rule 11 sanctions, demands extensive discovery, stands up to challenge each and every one of their patents, and then points out that Monster uses a Bermuda-based company for IP holding to shift income offshore and avoid paying US taxes.

I also really like this paragraph :

"Also, please provide me all of the information referenced above as it relates to your expired patent D323643, a copy of which I am attaching. I will need to know what products Monster now offers or at any time has offered for sale which were believed to fall within the scope of D323643, and what claims, if any, of infringement of D323643 were made against others by Monster, whether those claims of infringement took the form of correspondence only, litigation, or otherwise."

Essentially, asks for discovery on whether Monster used expired patents for illegal extortion or other companies, which could seriously come back to bite them.

Further, if any of these patents or trademarks has been licensed to any entity, please provide me with copies of the licensing agreements. I assume that Monster Cable International, Ltd., in Bermuda, listed on these patents, is an IP holding company and that Monster Cable's principal US entity pays licensing fees to the Bermuda corporation in order to shift income out of the United States and thereby avoid paying United States federal income tax on those portions of its income; my request for these licensing agreements is specifically intended to include any licensing agreements, including those with closely related or sham entities, within or without the Monster Cable "family," and without regard to whether those licensing agreements are sham transactions for tax shelter purposes only or whether they are bona fide arm's-length transactions.

POW

Never pick a fight with anyone who fights (or fought, as it were) for a living. Amen, brother.

Simply amazing!! This guy did his homework and research in every aspect. Good for him, I have full confidence in his success.

Hehe, I wonder if "Blue Jeans" is a patent by some jeans outfit like Levis :) They will think twice about a law suit!!

I'm guessing that this story of his is having an impact on his site traffic; (I'm having a hell of a time getting to his site!)

All the better! I hope his business triples b/c of this nonsense........Screw Monster and their obscenely overpriced, ridiculously marketed cables...

I bet the guy was hoping this day would come.
What a way to get exposure!

Yep. I used to make my own, use pretty much the same material as Blue Jeans (Belden cable, Canare connectors, etc) after the cost of the tools needed, time and materials it was cheaper to buy from Blue Jeans in the end.

A great product at a great value. There may be better cable out there, but you'd only know it if you had some good diagnostic gear. You won't hear or see it.

Those idiots need to be told...I would like to see Monster take this to court if their lawyers can ever find the time to send him the info he has asked for lol.

PS: Do these guys just run around suing people mindlessly? Watch out Kyle....the name of this thread has Mon$ter's name in it..

This guy has principles, and is willing to stand up for them. Rare these days.

That was seriously one of the coolest things I have ever seen on the internet.

I do not have a need for any of these cables that he manufacturers, as I have a crappy old tube television and crappy audiogear. Regardless, I am now a paying customer of Blue Jeans cable, just because I want to support his company

This is amazingly awesome.

I've heard of Bluejeans cable before but never ordered from them, usually order from monoprice because the layout and design of blue jeans is just really old. Not saying it doesn't work, just that it could use a good upgrade.

I'll be ordering from Blue Jeans next time i need a cable, what he is doing is top notch.

I think we need to talk to this guy about a partnership with the site. Then he'll get all the site upgrades he needs from our lovely membership!:p

Pretty funny read...

Monster, if in fact they do use offshore company as tax shelter, is only 1 of millions of other U.S. companies doing the exact same thing.

BJC definitely makes great stuff. They'll even take returns on custom length cables. Everytime I order I'm tempted to offer to redesign their site free of charge though, its that bad.

Hmmm...wonder if he does legal work on the side still, should I ever run into a legal problem I'd call him...Maybe he can look into the Ultra patent nonsense and see if they have any legal ground to fight them on, since he misses the odd challenge and all that?

all I have to say is that Monster got owned! And for whoever said Monster has an 80% markup, try more like 800%. I've never owned a Monster cable and never will.

This letter of his is a big middle-finger to Monster.

BJC does make good stuff, and I've heard about them since I first started at avsforum 8 years ago. I still use monoprice though once I discovered them.

Perhaps this is another one of those cases where that nicety known as a Declaratory Judgement would be in order? :)

Wow! Monster Cables are even bigger douches than I thought. I knew they screw over stupid customers, but I didn't know they tried to extort money from better cable companies by abusing our patent and legal system.

I actually took the time to read that. I kinda want to buy his cables now.
Same here. Holy shit, I actually sat and read that whole letter. He very intelligently slapped the shit out of Monster Cable, repeatedly. I think I'll try to follow this one.
