Today was the first day of my new hardware class in school and this is what I learned! (no way to test out).

*disclaimer: If you have been known to fly out of your chair towards newbs, due to ignorant comments, please tie yourself down*

  1. Vista 64 is not really 64 bit. It's 2 32-bit OSes running in parallel.
  2. UPnP will not work in Vista, guaranteed.
  3. No hardware supports 64 bit.
  4. Vista does not support any new software
  5. Vista will NOT run with 1gb of ram
  6. Vista is extremely buggy, slow, unstable and always crashes.
  7. CD/DVD roms just spin in Vista and never auto run.
  8. Oh yeah, and Vista 64 is not really 64 bit. It's 2 32-bit OSes running in parallel.

So, should I just kill myself now, or just skip till the last week and take the final?

i would like to meet the person that told you that crap, this is high school i hope right?

Instructor in a college course, and everyone in the class agreed with him.

I mean seriously, if these are the people I am going to be competing with on my way up the ladder, just stick me right on the fucking top.

lol......yeah i have had computer classes like that before.

I can never decide if i should just laugh and shrug it off or stand up and scream, "WTF!!!!"

:D

Honestly, is this what they're teaching in college computer courses these days?

Jeebus, it's no wonder Vista is so buggy and prone to crashes....

see what I did there?

Talk about a shit load of misinformation and typical "Vista bashing." This kind of reminds me of my old professor who referred to TCP/IP as Telecommunications Protocol.

You'll soon realize that you'll know more than your professors about the subject matter, in some cases.

.. two 32-bit OSes running in parallel? Yeah, that would be far easier than just making a 64-bit OS, I can see why they took that shortcut.

Wow, The teacher was saying this stuff? I personally would complain to the school. If only for the whole two 32bit OSs in parallel thing. I hope you at least corrected the teacher on that part.

makes sense to me..

i mean 32+32 == 64 right?

also if you have dual core running 64bit that is 64+64 .. which makes your system equal to 128bit..

what part of that doesn't make sense?

Is this a joke? Please tell me it is.

If not, that idiot of a teacher should be sacked. Right away. Someone that ignorant should not be teaching a computer class.

Let me have a word with your "Instructor" I'll give him a proper lesson in actually learning how something works.

If this is the honest truth, I'd probably go right to my dean/advisor and ask for money back, or to be switched to another class. No instructor in college should be teaching anyone something so blantantly wrong.

You're a day early for April Fools, unless you by chance happen to live out in the far east.

LOL that is great, I love "teachers"

I've had a few really good ones, but the majority of them are idiots.

does your teacher by any chance wear blue jeans and black turtleneck shirts?

Dude, don't think of it as class. Think of it as stand-up comedy for geeks. It'll be more fun.

Also, sounds like the class might just be an easy A. No harm in padding that GPA!

Not really...
It'd be a PITA A... because you obviously already know what you do, but your test is based on what the Instructor thinks he knows...

The sad part is, in my last course, intro to programming, the instructor was OK but the students were just as bad. And my last Intro to networking course, a guy introduced himself as "I know enough to be dangerous" ... by the end of the 2nd week we were trying to explain to him the simplest windows functionality. I just figured he was a linux guy until I realized, no, he's just a moron.

It's truly sad how many people really know absolutely nothing. One of my instructors said before "I think it's funny how a tech can't figure out that the computer that is not booting is not plugged in, and he wants 50k a year." ... now I realize what she meant by that.

.... just, wow.

So that explains why they still install parallel ports in the motherboards :p

Wow. Whenever my professors tell an incorrect fact, I correct them. That's what I would have done.

Oh come on now, everyone overlooks those simple things once in awhile ;)

It's like all your formal (and troubleshooting) training is dealing with complex situations... and you immediately go into that troubleshooting state of mind- and overlook all the simple stuff.

I don't think I've ever left the computer unplugged and tried to troubleshoot it, but I HAVE forgotten to plug/terminate the other end of a Cat5 cable at the switch, and wondering WTF was the matter with the computer.

OK I admit, once I was trying to troubleshoot a DVD playback for our students ACT, and the last thing I checked was that I noticed it was defaulting to end of the track. Took me 10 minutes of clicking through menus to realize it!:D BUT IM HAPPY WITH MY CO-OP PAY!!!!!

This surprises me none. When I was in college our hardware class instructor didn't know anything about hardware. They hired him because he had a Master's Degree (in business). He was a wannabe that couldn't do the job, but met the qualifications to get it.

Yeah, another one of the tools/student in our class today said, and I quote, "I bought a laptop for my gaming rig." (already at this point I was about ready to jump over the table at him) "I put Vista Ultimate x64 on it and it won't let me run direct x 10 on it. Vista is crap." And yes, he was one of the parallel 32 bit guys.

I wasn't sure if I should smack him or feel sorry for him.

Your teacher must be on crack or something. It makes no sense, even if you could run 2 parallel windows it would eat away so much cpu power it would not even be funny. Try this on him, duck tape two PS2 and try to sell it to him, tell him it's the Playstation 4, since it has the #4 it should be better than 3, and he would be ahead in technology. Tell him it can do great things, all he needs to do to obtain it is pass you and 4 small payments of 399.99E, tell him it's out in Europe or something, demand Euros.

What college are you attending?
I'm not going to go there. It's a private school is all I'm going to say. For the same money I could be going to a major University, but I don't want that. To big, and to far away for 3 days a week of class. With my work schedule, it's really my only reasonable choice.

Take this as an opportunity to look at the jack-off's you'll be competing with for a job when you graduate and breathe easy. :D

BTW, you really should talk to the dean or someone. A prof not knowing everything is fine, not knowing anything is not.

I wouldn't say it's reasonable at all if you are paying private college prices for the type of misinformation you are describing. To be quite honest, it sounds like a colossal waste of time and money.

Well I'm going to wait and see on this. Unfortunately, I'm not one of the 'cool guys' who stands around outside of the class on break talking about how badass their ubuntu boxes are, or how they used remote assistance to fuck with their brother. Don't get me wrong, I like that stuff too, but bragging it in real life is 10x more annoying that people who do online. I'd rather go to a red-neck convention.

If I were to say something, they probably would think I have no clue what I'm talking about anyways. I mean seriously, if you believe this crap, you probably have a hard time remembering to breath, let alone being able to deal with someone giving you a face full of truth.

I might say something next week if more lies are spoke.

Well, it's getting late, I have to finish up my 2nd installation of 32bit version of Crysis, in order to take full advantage of my Vista x64. (sorry, had to)
