Your Laptop Picture [H]ere (read first post for rules please)

i really want to see that thing on a 17 in notebook......

thats crazy dude. nice stuff

The best I got is it on a 15.1" Gateway, still looks tiny though, so just imagine it more so with a 17incher. XD

What can you actually do with something that small?

Take notes, play World Of Warcraft or Warcraft 3, browse the web while simultaneously straining your eyes! :D

Replaced the T61 in my sig with this:

IMG_0851.jpg

Scored it for $40 on Craigslist this morning, and they go for like $200+ on eBay.

is there a point of having one of those? Beside it being more junk towards your room? I would have spent that $40 on something better.

Didnt ask what you would spend $40 on. But to answer, yes, there is a point, its fun to see where we've come from, especially those of us who actually remember these, and once my fun is done... sell it like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Macintosh-Porta...ryZ80075QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
And make 8x what I paid for it. Or hang onto it since it is rare and quite a piece of portable computer history.

Yay, new laptop! Just picked up the Sony SZ-650 for a steal from Best Buy. The Toshiba in the back is a A135-S7403, last year's BB Black Friday special :p

Loving the SZ-650 so far, just wish it didn't have some much trial crap installed. Gonna take a few hours to get rid of it all..

Just got these three in last week:

HP 8710w (right) - my laptop - 2.2GHz Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Quadro 1600 w /512GB, BluRay-R drive, WUXGA screen, full keyboard, HDMI, etc So far so good, the BR-R drive is quirky though.

HP 8510w (left) - coworker's laptop I was working on - pretty much the same specs but w/o BluRay and the base video card.

Dell 2408WFP - monitor - dual DVI inputs, one for each dock. The colors are awesome and I haven't even calibrated it yet!

The only reason the office is clean is because I just took it over after working from home - it will be a mess soon. lol

What are your thoughts on the build quality of the HP business notebooks? I have been looking into getting an ultraportable 2510p.

I think they are extremely good. My old laptop is a Dell Precision M60 and this is leaps ahead of it. We have been using HP in our office for about 2 years now and all the laptops in service are still in service, a replacement component here and there but for the most part very good.

The hinges are solid, as is the chassis itself. Keyboard has a great feel and the soft touch controls (volume, calculator, wireless, etc are a very cool 'touch'. They are also sleek and understated as opposed to a VAIO or MacBook or something that is very flashy. I feel like I could go into a dingy coffeehouse and not get balked out of the place.

The cooling is impressive as well, a long session of computing left it warm but not spicy like my Dell or a MacBook.

The only things I don't like are the lack of digital audio output (SPDIF or TOSlink) - also it does have HDMI but it overscans on my plasma (a common problem with any HDMI PC it seems). One thing I noticed on the lower-end models, the LCD is not very good, I would say downright junk for color clarity, brightness, and shifting. The 8710w has an amazing screen, however, so make sure you see your particular model in person before making the leap.

Other than that, time will tell. I've only had it a little over a week now so it's barely broken in.

Thats actually a "problem" with the display... well, not really a problem but a built in feature. Newer TV's have options to remove the overscan... Mine unfortunately doesn't :(

It's a 50" Pioneer Elite 1120 so its a couple years old, but it looks amazing displaying every other source.

I can't even get the Nvidia software to use 1280x768 as a custom resolution setting. At least there is a VGA input but there is noticeable picture degradation.

The Dell 2408 has the same overscan issue but I can just run DVI to get around it.

Thanks! Crazy raise? Promotion? Nah, this baby was paid for with tax return money :)

I've since upgraded the ram to 4gb Corsair 6400, and installed Vista Ultimate x64. If anyone has x64 drivers for the fingerprint reader, please PM me! :(

Mine:

Dell Latitude D620. Got it used here at [H] for an awesome deal, and I'm loving it. Solid build quality and incredible performance. Sorry about the ISO noise; I'm not a huge fan of flash and so I shot at ISO1600 instead.

I had a D620 for a contract job, last summer. It's a great machine. Sadly, I had to give it back when I finished the job. :(
