Your Laptop Picture [H]ere (read first post for rules please)

I'd say that's a good assessment. ;) My MBP can do everything my T61p could, plus it's superior for graphics and video work. It looks better, too. Sell your MacBook. You could easily get around $1000 for it... unless all those black markings are permanent.
$1000 wouldn't buy me a similarily specced ThinkPad, so I would make a loss. Not a good idea when I'm already a penniless student :(

heres my cheapo notebook

Acer Aspire 5315-2153 connected to a Dell 1905FP via a Belkin F5U265 ExpressCard/34 docking station

This is the laptop Wal-Mart was selling for $348 last November. A wonderful daily-use laptop, once you've give it 2GB of RAM and a complete wipe of the hard drive (after burning the restore discs, of course)

Selling this one on ebay. By far the WORST laptop design I have ever experienced. To remove the hard drive, I literally had to remove every single last screw in the bloody thing. I had to remove the keyboard, the plastics, the entire lid/screen assembly, the optical drive, network card, all the shielding - hell I even had to remove some of the freakin' sockets from the opposite side of the base! All that work & I discovered it's only a 3GB drive :(

My first thought was 'toilet seat' :D Don't worry I didn't buy it, I pulled it from a skip purely for shits & giggles.

Haha nice iBook. I got one for free and I have to admit the handle was nice. Other than that, it wasn't a great machine. Atleast Apple learned. Now you just pop the battery out in the Macbook and you have access the HD and memory.

I sold my iBook G3 on ebay for $200+. Definitely worth throwing it on eBay.

I love the slim sexy look of Apple products, and I think their OS is well polished and pioneered better/ slicker GUI's, and hey without apple we would still be punching out command lines and hitting the arrow keys to surf the web (not fun, i had to do so to update a Gentoo kernel)

But the one common myth about mac's is that they are better for design...absolutely false, though I personally am not a professional video editor or anything of the like, its my secondary hobby. Windows also has Photoshop, After effects, and Preimere Pro, as does OSX, both render the same sequences (probably) within a minuet or two of each other, and with knowledge both will burn and export correctly. OSX has Final Cut Pro, but it is so close to Premiere Pro that the differences are impossible to detect unless you exploit every feature of each video editing software

Now back On Topic, I'll have Pics of my Old HP Omnibook up this weekend once i have a nice smooth version of gentoo running on it and my Wireless working

Cheers :D

Um, no, we really wouldn't. Please don't tell me that Apple are single handedly responsible for the development of the GUI & graphical web browsing, & that without them all OS'es would still be console based; you're just making yourself look stupid.

(not fun, i had to do so to update a Gentoo kernel)
OS X is designed for idiots, Gentoo is not; hardly a fair comparison. Besides, I find updating my Linux box far easier, quicker & less painful than my Mac; all I do is type "pacman -Syu" & it does it all for me. I especially like the fact that it doesn't force a restart when all I've done is install a tiny security update.

I'm one of the minority who bought a Mac & regretted it from day one. Can't wait 'till I can justify replacing it with another ThinkPad.

It's sat untouched for weeks since I built my new desktop as I've no lectures/labs to go to during exam season. Remember kids, Macs != [H]ard.

Is there a reason you can't use bootcamp/parallels and just install XP on it? (If you don't want it, i'll gladly take it off your hands, and I won't even charge a disposal fee! :D:D)

newest addition to my laptop collection haha

ASUS G1S-B2
had it for 3 weeks now.. just never had the chance to post up the pics...these are pics I took first day I opened it :D This baby is a TANK. It runs all my apps flawlessly.

First of all, XP would be even worse than Vista; I'm a Linux fanboy. But secondly, the main point, is that you pay a substantial premium for Apple hardware & it makes even less sense to buy Apple hardware if you are going to run XP or Linux as the primary OS.

You already paid the hardware premium, whats your point? By the way, ThinkPads are far from cheap. You'll pay just as much as you did with Apple. I love my ThinkPad and its built like a tank, but a good value its not.

If you are such a Linux fanboy, install your flavor of choice and be done with it. Heres a guide for Ubuntu. (Unless you are just bitching for the sake of bitching, in which case, disregard.)

You're just not getting me, are you? I have already paid the premium to have Apple hardware & have paid a non-refundable sum for the OS X license. Therefore I'm not about to scrap that & install Linux. When you pay the premium for a ThinkPad, it's because you're getting a bloody good machine, so no matter what OS you install you are exploiting this premium (Lenovo will even refund your XP license if you don't use it). With Apple you are paying the premium for the image, the placebo, the style, & the permission to run OS X, so if you then waste the £85 license & go & install Linux you're just burning money. Besides, there are a few commercial programs (like Adobe's CS3 Creative Suite) that I like to be able to run natively.

This thread is to post pictures of your laptops! If you want to talk about OS we have a MADE OS thread.

Mod's please delete their stupid arguments.

Nice G1S Acee. I love mine and it too runs everything great esp. since I removed most bloatware and stopped all the Vista services and crap I'll never use from starting up. I've had mine since mid Dec but haven't gotten around to posting it yet. Did you get the free Steelsound 5Hv2 headphones with yours?

Yes, I did get the steelsound headphones with the ASUS G1S. Too bad it's so big that I don't usually bring it around campus. I use them for my PC.

I have also removed all the preinstalled stuff ASUS put into the laptop... it runs great. No problem so far.

Man I just love their Splendid technology. Makes the graphics look so much more realistic.

Decided to finally get around to posting pics of my Asus G1S-B2. Specs are in sig. You can also see Acee's post a few posts back for how it looked out of the box.

I'm TDY for about 3 months for the AF so these were taken in my Hotel room.

Desktop:

The background picture I took this past weekend coming back from skiing in NM. It was taken at sunset from the car going 85mph. If anyone wants it I can upload the full version.

All the stuff on the desk is in my sig for those that are curious and those are the Logitech PSP speakers behind my notebook since the built in ones suck. The PSP ones work surprisingly well.

I use the 360 pad to play Spiderman 3 and have Guitar Hero 3 as well.

This notebook has performed exceptionally well for what I paid for it and I haven't had any problems with it or Vista so far. My only complaint is that the 200GB 7200rpm hard drive is too small. I have less than 3 gigs free on the OS partition and 25 on the data one. There's also a recovery one that I can't see except in the bios. I have a 250GB WD Passport for music, movies, and pictures and an old 80GB SATA drive in the Vantec enclosure for misc files and backups. It's connected via eSATA which I absolutely love. I don't think I can ever go back to using large externals like the WD MyBook using USB.

Most of may games like Steam ones, Bioshock, etc I can set at max setting and run withough any problems.

Crysis perfoms very well on this as well I have everything set to medium settings with High physics and some tweaked config options. Here are some pics if curious.

man you need a new laptop asap.

damn dude, that thing is tiny! specs?

Intel Processor A110 @ 800 MHz
1 GB DDR2 400 MHz SDRAM memory
40 GB (4200 rpm) hard drive
Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g) and Bluetooth
Embedded 0.3 megapixel webcam
5.6" touch screen
1.5 lbs

It's no powerhouse, but it suits my needs perfectly for an ultra portable laptop/tablet since I don't want to be carrying around huge case to class or to outside events at work, etc. The battery life is stellar too. Fujitsu claims 5.5 hours, but I've only managed to get nearly 5 hours on the dot.

I wish it had EV-DO included, but it's no biggie to tether to my Mogul over WiFi. :)

A few more shots with an iBook 12.1 inch:
