Dell 3008 WFP 30" AVAILABLE NOW $2034

Wow, That's one beautiful monitor! Dell really did a good job on this one. Now let's see the performance of this monster!

Dell has delayed the ship date of the 3008wfp that I ordered on 12/18 again. Now ship date is Jan 7th.

That was to be expected. They will do the offical announcement at CES on Jan 7.

If it slips any further then we are all POed.

That thing costs more than my new 46" Samsung 1080p 120hz LCD TV.
It'll be interesting to see how well it sells.

From what I have read; displayport has higher bandwidth then duel link DVI. It transfers the data in a new format and can include 48 bit color as well as sound. I have not found what the max bandwidth of displayport is yet.

Whatever it is, it ain't worth $2034!!!!!! :p I'm stunned at that price. Anyone remember the original price of the 3007WFP?

Original price was $2,499 i think
Wow... If true, then the price dropped by over 50% in less than a year! This could bode well for those with the patience to wait another 6-9 months before buying a 3008.

Mine were $2,899 each but I added the extended service plan with next business day replacement.

Yeah, I couldn't swallow more than 2,499 for the monitor, so i opted out of the extended service plans, i figured 3 years was more than enough :D

It's worked out for me. One of the first 2 I got was bad. After sending me 2 refurbs that were crap via Next Day air, I finally got a 3rd replacement that was brand new. Was nice to get that taken care of in less than 4 days total. But just recently I had one die and that's been a pain to take care of. I've given up on taking care of it for the time being and I'm using one of the refurb's they sent me. But I'd never trade my 3 3007's for anything other than 3 3008's right now.

Can I see your setup?

Dell has started taking orders again. They should ship after they are announced at CES on the 7th of this month.

I hope so, but meanwhile the shipping date for the unit that I ordered on 12/19 has been delayed until the 10th.

That's pretty discouraging information about product quality. Typically, LCD monitors last quite a long time if they work well to begin with. Problems either show up right away, or not for a long time.

I paid $2199+tax for mine in 1/06 - exactly two years ago. I ended up returning it because of brightness uniformity issues. Actually, I exchanged it once, and the replacement unit had the same uniformity problems as well as dead pixels (the first unit had no dead pixels). I ended up just doing a return and getting a refund since the uniformity problem was prevalent back then. Also, I had a 30" Apple which I liked better (I had bought that one a year earlier for $3K or close to it if I remember correctly...)

I tried getting another 30" Apple instead, but couldn't find a good one in early '06. I went through at least 6 of them, and all of them had pretty serious problems, so I gave up on that as well. I guess I got lucky on the first one that I bought - that one was fine other than the infamous "dancing green pixel" problem.

I also tried a 305T at some point, but didn't like it as much. I was hoping that the image quality would be as good as on the Samsung 243T, but it wasn't, so I returned it as well. By the way, I loved the image quality on the 243T, but Samsung totally screwed up the stands of those ones. I still have a couple of those monitors, and I love them (other than the horrible stands).

We'll see if the 3008WFP gets to dethrone my 3 year old 30" Apple...

It's amazing how getting a good monitor is still a difficult task these days. I've been buying monitors for over twenty years and it has always been a pain. Big CRTs were particularly difficult - many different types of problems, frequent shipping damage, etc., but LCDs with their uniformity problems, backlight leakage, dead pixels, and various electronics problems aren't easy either. There's still a lot of variability between units of the same model and between batches - quite frustrating since you really want to get a good one when you pay so much.

Yeah, buying monitors is a pain. But CRTs are worse than LCDs for sure.

Just grabbed these from the 3007 thread. Don't have any recent shots and I'm at work but here's the 3 of them sitting on the floor.

Thanks. What I wanted to see was what kind of desk you used and how you had it setup.

Oh, sorry. I have a non-name 72" desk from Quill. It's just one in the middle and one on either side. Nothing special, it's just a 12.3 million pixels of space.

Looks like an amazing monitor from the review. Lets wait until summer and see how things turn out. I dont think my 19" will ever die...

8ms is a joke. $2000+ is a bigger joke. Get yourself 3 24" monitor for a lesser price.

I have learn my lesson for spending $1400 on a 24" monitor and saw it dropped to $500 less then a year.

That's your choice to make, it's not for everybody. I spent $1000 bucks each for the first Dell 20" widescreens and saw them drop down to nothing. Samething with my triple 24" Dells and saw a huge drop in price from when I picked up my triple 30"s. I still have all of my monitors and wouldn't trade a single one of my 30"s for 3 24"s.

This review is not thorough enough....

They really need to test it for input lag, the addition of the scaler may have issues for the input lag.

Their excuse for not hardware color calibrating is not good... especially when they admit it took alot to calibrate it by hand.

No comments of screen coating qualities (afterall, this is the first huge monitor with True-Life.)

Performance aspects of hooking Display port up?... this is the first review with a display port gpu.

Why not test these things? as they admit... "If you're the type of user that is has the need or is seriously considering a 30-inch LCD panel, then you probably have some fairly stringent requirements in terms of performance as well."

Here's hoping Prad, BeHardware, TFTCentral, or Trusted Reviews gets this monitor

Yes , we need Kyle and the boys to put their brand of review to this unit.

Yah; I agree about the review. In fact that was what I was thinking while I was reading it. These guys never even mentioned black levels, or if the baclight is adjustable which is a big deal with super bright displays. They talk a lot about all of the adjustments, but never enumerate what they are. Input lag is not a big issue for me, but it should be covered and compared to previous models. It would be nice to know if the DVI-D inputs pass through with out the scaler at native res.

I am really looking forward to reviews from people on this forum. I find that most if not all of the so called pro reviews are lacking or biased. When people post here you get a much better real world feel and you can ask questions and get pictures in some cases.

The internet gives us the opertunity to be a much smarter buyer and that is why I love tech forums.

Hey, Dell has already dropped the price!!!! Now, the 3008 can be had for ONLY...

$1999

:p

Yea hopefully its not too long before we get the 2408. One my 2405's is dieing and in desperate need of an upgrade :D
I'd like a 2708WFP, but I doubt we'd see it before September.

Nice setup, what do you use them for?

Gaming of course but then also for monitoring my servers at work here at home. I also have a bunch of VM's I use as my play area so I can have quite a few up at once and working on them.

September? As in almost a year from now? Wasn't the 3008 just released?
That's just my guess. Dell just released the 3008. I'd expect the 2408 around spring/summer. Fall seems like a good time to release the 2708. I'd be thrilled to be wrong about this, tho. A 2708 early this year would be great.
