My sister is trying to find some photo editing software, and I figured I'd help by consulting my [H] brethren. She had some Photo Impressions software on her old laptop, but I cant find that. What I need is something very easy and use friendly. It will be to be able to create photo albums, and have basic editing stuff... zoom and crop, black and white, ect. She doesn't have the patience or know how to dick around with levels and color balance in photoshop, I need something simple and effective. Free is preferred, but for a reasonable price, she will pay.

Ideas?

Picasa would probably suffice, but in my experience it is more for making photo albums. If you want something a little more robust I recommend Pain.net. You can get it at getpaint.net

No offense ILAtitan, but I could have recommended Gimp just as easily as you recommend paint, both of which are excellent free editing apps... However simple and effective are the key words in the OP, and Picasa offers basic editing capabilities such as zoom and crop, black and white, basic color balancing etc... mostly one click operations that those not interested in layers and more advanced types of choppage will find useful and easy to implement...as well as photo album and organizational tools...

Again, no offense intended at all... just a few opinions...

Photoshop Elements. I do most of my serious Photoshop work on a Mac with CS, but I slapped an ancient version of Photoshop Elements (2.0?) on my XP machine and although the interface has a few quirks I'm surprised how much work I've been able to do with it.

I expect the current version is much more refined. I would suggest it without reservation.

Yes, I would give Elements to my sister.

I know you said "simple" but I found Picasa oversimplified.

If you don't want advice when you post a question just go hang out on the street corner and yell at cars as I expect you usually do.

I don't know what your problem is... but my question was pretty simple. I needed something that can make a photo album, do black and white, and zoom and crop. If picasa has those things, thats all I need. For you, Picasa may be oversimplified... for someone who doesn't know what the the hell they are doing, and needs something simple, Elements is way over complicated, nevermind the price tag when something free works fine.

Don't get pissed because you gave bad advice.
