If I am not mistaken the Q6600 is 2.4mhz? Does anyone know if they are going to come out with a 1.86mhz version? A Q6300 if you will.

The only budget quad we can get is the Xeon X3210, which is basically a Q6400 with a price tag of 224$ per 1000 after the july 22th price cuts.

I don't think there will be a lower Quad released any time soon.

There was a Q6400 listed on Intels CPU maps at one time not to long ago, but nothing has become of it, maybe in the future, who knows.

The future is called the Xeon X3210 which one of the previous people in this thread already pointed out. The Q6400 is now the Xeon X3210. Intel may end up releasing sub 2.0ghz quad core procs in the future but for the time being this is what you'll be working with come august.

Yeppers, I've known about the Xeon X3210 from the day it was released...........:D I was just pointing out that at one point they had planned a cheap "Quad" and hopefully they will again. Lots of folks out there will not attampt to install a Xeon CPU in their home systems. .............

this is just my opinion, but if i had to guess why they have realeased a cheaper quad yes is probably due to the heat issues.
gernerally someone that is willing to spend $500 on a cpu, wouldnt shy away from better coolling.
someone spending less than $200 on a cpu are usually not in the know about heat and computers.
lets face it, these cpus are for the enthusiast right now.
when intel gets thier second gen quads out, i would wager there would be an affordable one by then.

I don't know guys... I think 2.4 mhz is too blazing fast for me. I don't know if my Pentium at 75 mhz can keep up :)

X3210's aren't easy to find. They are usually stocked by smaller boutiques that jack the prices up. Even now before the price cuts they are right around the same price as the Q6600.

Only five more days to go and I will hopefully have my new cpu and can start my build. :)
