Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Well, I haven't read the thread for quite a while. Good stuff going on here! I might have to put together a new FAQ soon. :)

I'll be in Europe for three months, which is good, but... no Westy. :( :mad: My poor baby must feel so alone. Sigh. I see lots of good new pics here though!

Why does it always take a couple bourbons and such to make me pull the trigger at 5 a.m. (being the end of the night and not the start of the day)?

now a cable and a tilting wall mount.

Just picked up an Xbox 360 elite. Will have to get the HD DVD player to help justify the purchase.

I have been following this thread since it was in the early teens of pages. Now it's just crazy.

Very soon I will be officially a part of this wonderful crowd. :cool:

Actually, I had it shipped to my office, since I didn't want my new treasure sitting out on my doorstep until I got home.

Brought in a LOT of comments, even our CEO came in and joked "I hope you didn't use your company card for this." When I told him about the Costco sale, he was pretty amazed at how affordable these have become. This si not the standard office set up, as I later took it home, though I work for an oil company (we're not totally evil, this company only pumps domestic oil) so I think I caused a problem when the engineers saw this-- EVERY ONE of them wanted a Westy.

Anyone's order still being processed? I ordered mine on monday the 4th and it's still being processed. Right now it's showing as partially shipped, as they did manage to send out my costco membership card.
 
I have a question.
Can you guys turn off everything besides the monitor and tell me if you hear any noise?
I hear some buzzing sound from mine as well as my friend's.
Just curious if this is normal.

Yup. Ordered mine Friday the 1st. Still just "Processing". I'm starting to think it was a really small batch and they ran out. Hopefully they're just waiting for more since they're still taking orders. :confused:

I called to verify that everything was Ok with the order and it wasn't something else hanging it up... Nope! Damn. :eek:

What I'm afraid of is that games won't support this resolution as opposed to something with a higher resolution like a 24" dell?

The dell actualy has a higher resolution and a more "standard" resolution as well. So would it be a better buy?

Just because somethign is big does not alwayse make it better. But like I said I made an account and my finger is ready to push the button.
 
Well, more and more games support this resolution. And if not, there's always ways to make it support it:

And those are the only ones I can think of at the moment, and I bet there are lots more. And well, personally the difference between 1920x1200 to 1920x1080 is not that big, just an opinion. Is just the level of immersion this big screen gives you what makes it so superb. I've been to Alienware stores, where they have their pc's hooked up to 24" monitors, and I wouldn't trade the westy for it. But as I said before, is just my personal opinion. You might be the type of person that likes higher resolutions at the cost of a few inches, who knows. I'm just gonna say that after you game on the westy say bye-bye to regular monitor, since those are gonna feel really tiny. LOL:p

Woops... left out 'that'. She couldn't say if they're out because they have no way of checking inventory there. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something like the fact that the billing/shipping addresses being different that was holding it up... and it wasn't.

I'm not really a gamer, but it sounds and looks like most people are having excellent results with the current games.
 
Thanks for the support, having some real drama in my personal life tends to make me buy extravagent things and this monitor was it. Last time it was a new truck (although I needed both of these things as well).

With costco's return policy I can't go wrong, and I read the firmware is upgradable via a USB flashdrive but I have not read how to do that yet.

I have been running C&C3 @ 2048x1536 on my 22" CRT, so I guess I'll have to turn the resolution down quite a bit to compensate, hope it does not look too bad....AND I Hope it ships soon!

Congrats on the purchase :D Most people here are in love with the monitor. Mine'll be here tomorrow (assuming I can survive an early morning test first). Boss is out of town and it's being delivered to work. Something tells me I won't be getting much done tomorrow :D

As for the calbes, those prices are pretty horrid. http://www.monoprice.com has a nice 2m (6ft) DVI-D cable for $6 + shipping ($4 to ME). High quality, and they're always recommended around here on [H].

Check out monoprice.com, they have really great prices and 99% of people here would recommend monoprice ;) .
BTW - Ordered the 2nd and still not shipped yet ><!! :(

Monster Cable M500 DVI for $16 shipped to your door @ fleabay :) just got one, very thick compared to shame stock DVI cable
 
So after being on hold with Costco for about 30 minutes, I finally got through to a rep. I called because I placed my order Monday afternoon, hoping it would make it here by Friday with Expedited Shipping.

BACK ORDERED. They do not have it in inventory at the moment, so she said it would take 2-3 WEEKS before she could get them in, then it would ship expedited shipping. CMON, OMG THIS IS KILLING ME.

So, anyone else order theirs recently and receive a shipping/tracking number already? I'm gonna be pissed!!!

PS: They said they would refund my whole shipping charge for the delay, can't beat Costco!!!

That's what I figured. Seems like they got a VERY small shipment to sell out in only 3-4 days. Let's just hope they actually get more of them. Considering that this is an outgoing model... I fear they may not. 2-3 weeks is probably just a generic line they spew for any backordered item unless they actually know that they have more on the way.

To all that ordered within the first 3 days.................... You suck. :)

Sounds good but how long is it?

eks > Monstercables for the most part fro what I have read, they are even thicker fancier. I ordered my Component cables from them and they are decently high quality!

But Monstercable is good enough, knu just goes above and beyond sometimes ridiculously (but cheaper than monster cable usualy) I think 6 feet will be good but I have a 10foot VGA cable right now.

BACKORDERED DAMNIT! I'm going to have to call costco and see if they will wave the shipping charge.
 
LOL. This is funny, but is making me mad at the same time.
I ordered mine the first day, and it got here. I return it right away because it was defective, and ordered another the same day. Now they come with this BS that I have to wait 2-3 weeks. :(
 
Forgot to mention how surprised I was at how horrible the stock speakers are. No exaggeration, they are the worst I've heard in years - I have the bass turned 100% and they still literally sound like those cheap 6" high computer speakers you get for free. I don't get it.

My 3 year old Samsung 15", 14 year old Sony Trinitron 27", and 1 month old Vizio 37" all have superior stock speakers.

If this is not the centerpiece of your home theater system w/your 7.1 Dolby Digital receiver, 15" subwoofer, etc... you definitely need to anticipate hooking up some external speakers with a small subwoofer if you buy this monitor and want to occasionally watch TV on it. The crappy sound quality feels so out of place when watching this great screen.

Well I can wait as long as it is worth it. :) Besides Starcraft II won't be out for a while! In 2 weeks maybe I can pickup a 8800 GTS to utilize it!

I've had my Westy for over a week now, it came from PCNation with 0 dead pixels and looking great out of the box (Thanks to everyone in this thread for making me choose it).

My only issue is that it makes a buzzing sound, especially if I stick my head around the back. Is this normal?

I generally can't hear it when I'm sitting in front of it, but I'm becoming a real silence freak, and late at night(like now) is gets rather annoying.

That's what I'm worried about. The only positive thing is that they're still taking orders, but I'm not sure how responsive they are in taking it down. I've only ordered one other thing form Costco online. You know they didn't have any clue how popular this TV was when they put it up for $799. They probably just thought it was some POS that they wanted to unload fairly quickly. I just hope that this was some kind of tiny initial shipment and the REAL shipment is already on the boat to Costco. They're not going to be ordering more.

Does anyone know if they had been selling this TV previously? Before the $799?

If not, I'll take one you guy's TVs that you returned for 1 dead pixel... :eek: :D

I felt like throwing up playing SC about 1-2 ft. away.
I hope SC2 won't be the same.

Well that's a rare case. I play it all the time since it's still such an incredible game.
 
If you look at costco.com; 'Shipping & Terms

Shipping will be calculated at checkout based on your ship-to location.

Standard shipping is via UPS Ground. The estimated delivery time will be approximately 2 - 3 weeks from the time of order."

That has been changed from the 7-10 days it said previously. I called them and the woman on the phone told me indeed it is 3 weeks now, but if your reciept says 7-10 days then you got one before they ran out. Anyone ordering since the change is getting 2-3 weeks. I ordered mine on the 6th ~ 1PM
 
Interesting, so according to her, you should still get yours in 7-10 days?

I received confirmation on June 6 at 4:10 EST and it says 7-10 days.
 
I called as well and spoke to someone about it. I ordered very early on, and received my unit damaged. The unit is scuffed, the backlight is not functioning properly (it's almost as if the left side doesn't have one, or it is broken), and it was left on my porch falling out of the box so I was unable to refuse delivery.

They said even though it was shipping damage it could fall under the 90-day return policy, and I was fine to reorder with the two to three week wait. I asked if there was any chance they would be unable to fill my new order, and they said there was not. They will definitely be getting more. Don't fret those who have to wait, you will get yours. Just be patient.
 
Yes, my lady said "2-3 weeks for delivery", but I ordered the express shipping, and my email says clearly, "3-5 business days after your order".

The lady was sweet and nice, but said "that shouldn't have happened, because we just ran out of stock". But she said once they arrive, it will be delivered express.

She told me I can waive the shipping charge, and wait, or just cancel the order. I said "if I cancel, I won't get the deal that ends on the 10th. Is it POSITIVE that you will receive the units???" She said the affirmative "We WILL get them in, it's just taking a while". So, her supervisor told her that (as she had to put me on hold 3 times to verify), so if all goes well, we'll still be receiving our units.

THEY WILL BE RESTOCKED.

All you guys suck that have yours.
 
Mine arrived about 10 minutes ago. Won't be home for another 5 hours. Tempted to hook it up here at work. :D

Oh, and the box is freaking huge (and came in good shape)
