Can someone recommend me a good OS based (non internet, java, flash) based Tetris game? Doesn't matter if it's free or commercial, I'm just looking for a good one

A lot harder than you'd think, isn't it ? :D

I eventually gave up and got a crappy Flash version...

EDIT: There's bound to be one in here somewhere. I think #2 is the one I wound up with. A decent implementation of the game, but the lack of high scores makes it feel pretty pointless.

You know, the funny thing is the best tetris game i have ever played was written in assembly for my ti-83+ graphing calculator. Everything was so perfect about it, and link cable multiplayer during lecture couldnt be beat.

Try mine, its called Quadratis, its free, uses Direct3D, runs fullscreen with cool sound effects and music, and is available at my website: www.CodeXTreme.co.nr

Super Tetris
There're also a bunch of handheld multi mode tetris games that became really popular a few years ago.

Doh, just tried launching it, it crashes after it goes black fullscreen

really? Well I could only test it on a handful of computers, I'd really love to know what went wrong so I could fix it...

Are you using Vista?

XP. Just tried again, failed to launch twice, third time worked, then I quit.. and wouldn't launch again for a couple more times.. weird. Well, I played it though, great game, but the bombs make it a bit too easy. I got a 22 minute game, haha. Thanks for the game!

Oh, what's that number on the top left corner mean?

Well, glad you got it to work once at least once lol, I wish I knew what the problem was. The number in the corner is the framerate, should stay at or near 60.
Yeah, the chance of getting a bomb is way too high, makes it very easy, I have been meaning to change that but can't justify a full rebuild just for that...

super tetris 2 + bomb bliss for the snes. it might be a import, but im not sure. it is the second best tetris game ive ever played, the best ever being a japanese tetris for the sega dreamcast.

Best Tetris game I've ever played:

The New Tetris for Nintendo 64

Especially against friends (up to 4 players). The game is the epitome of Tetris goodness.

Heh, 90 percent of the replies here are for consoles and the like, I just asked for a computer one (hence why I mentioned no java/flash/internet based games)

get yourself a a good snes emulator and super tetris 2 + bombbliss limited edition, you cant go worng

I'm glad someone else beat me to it. I had countless hours of enjoyment playing 4 player with friends. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my N64. Well, that and smash brothers. In any case, there are some ridiculous youtube videos of the new tetris available if you're so inclined. Some of the time attack ones are just silly.

I loved The New Tetris as well. I played that thing for hours with my friends/siblings. Imagine my surpise when I did some testing for a local game developer and found out a good part of their team helped develop it!!!

I still boot it up every couple months and give it a go.

In terms of PC tetris, try Tetrinet. It's good and is built around a multiplayer aspect.

though its an arcade... (or xbox360) i still like tetris the grandmaster and want more games like that...
tetris ds on level 20 infinite it too easy (darn you tetris company and your crappy easy spin)

Just checked that out. Nice work... but the keyboard controls were way too sensitive, and ended up screwing me up a lot. Also, a weird bug, when I exit the game, the menu music keeps playing... and does not stop. It's been going for like 5 minutes now :p

Thanks for the feedback :D

The way I use Direct Input I basically ignore the keyboards key repeat rate so I had to make a delay value and set it manually, I could make it take longer between key presses when the key is held down if that is what you mean, to make it less sensitive.

As for the music thing, I have no idea. I probably don't successfully shut down FMOD, I'd have to look at the code for that. Would like to know if anyone else has had that happen though.

Tetris Blast for the GameBoy was fucking awesome!

Seconding the notion of just getting an emulator and such...
