The firestix are 2.1 volt...I heard rumors that the DS3 motherboard only allows 1.8 volt memory....

However I did order revision 3.3 mobo is this fixed now? I just want to be 100% certain before I order these buffalo sticks that they'll work just fine and dandy in my motherboard.

Thanks!

I think I answered my own question, good info here

http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2902

looks like they've made a lot of bios updates for this board. But that it still suffers from poorer memory timings on higher overclocks then other boards would..

Should I even bother getting the micro d9 chips? Or just get some cheapo ones?

take it ALL with a grain of salt. with an E6400 which has a mulitplier of 8 you can get 3.2GZ using ANY PC6400 rated memory as

8 x 400FSB = 3.2 GHz
400FSB x 2:1 (as Gigabyte lists the 1:1 divider in the bios) = 800MHz memory speed which is exactly on spec for PC6400 (800MHZ) memory. Value ram will do as its exactly on spec.

Now if you use a E6300, max multiplier is 7, you are in trouble (like me) and need super high FSB and memory becomes an issue.

Other than E6300 cpu, you are wasting money buying expensive ram unless you intend to do extream OCing

Even at 8 x 425 which gives you 3.4GHz ANY better quality PC6400 should be fine. and you are now in the OC region where you have to have top notch cooling and start cranking the volts to the cpu (which I dont like).

Anyway there is some info for you, math is easy, pick your cpu and its max mulitplier and do the math based on FSB:
FSB x multi = cpu speed
FSB x 2 = memory speed (at 2:1 divider)

long story short, you dont want to do anything other than 2:1 (memory runs 2x FSB) divider, imo.

you shouldnt have problems with the rev. 3.3 (my ram is at 1.9 and the board auto detected and booted up 1st time like a charm)

just thought id throw that in there :)

thanks i'm getting the e4300 processor with even a higher multiplier so im sure its not a big deal to get the really good ram...however the really good ram is only like $20 more...and i'm just thinking for future proofing the system if I ever upgrade to a higher processor ya know.

Firestix win, nuff said. The Dominator 6400C4 use shitty Promos who overclock like crap, for 70$ more.

I am using a DS3 rev 2 motherboard, and Buffalo Firestix work just fine. See my signature.

I have a DS3 v3.3 in the mail right now myself, planning on OCing it with an E6400 and using the Firestix, if I can get them off newegg. Seems like there is going to be a lot of people slamming the egg for these tomorrow.
