Small mention here from a Taiwan tradeshow.
The other item we saw from ASUS today is their new P965 Commando board that is designed for serious overclocking. The sample system has has been able to reach up to 585FSB and in memory testing it was running 4GB of OCZ Flex XLC memory at DDR2-1116 (5-5-5-15) for over 24 hours dual prime stable on 2.15V. This system has hit DDR2-1150 with 4GB while running some game and test benchmarks. In a 2GB configuration the system was capable of running up to DDR2-1350 (5-5-5-18) and should reach DDR2-1400 once BIOS tuning is completed. This speed required 2.5V but that is within the OCZ memory spec for their new Flex-XLC series.

Edit: That is a quote from the fellas over at anandtech; now that I have read through the forum rules I think I can safely mention that .

Who needs a 585mhz FSB? I doubt a 6300 could hit 4085Mhz without phase change at least.

some people actually use phase change though.....so its useful for some. actually useful for most, you could turn down the multi on an e6300 and run 6x600 for 3600 get some SWEET ddr1200 1:1 style.

Who wants to bet on the price?

My money is on $399.
lol is that sarcasm?? I wonder what sb it's going to pack along with other features. 249-269?

seems like the ultimate...but probably pulling money out of my ass for it...

dont need that much fsb

Initial price will be $299 at the egg and maybe $279 elsewhere. Probably settle around $239 or so once the first round of gouging is over.

Maybe you missed the "Striker" scandal...$400 for a board that barely hits 400FSB.

haha I know I know. But I don't think this board really comes close to the striker with regards to a "lowly" p965 vs a 680i, or even a 975x.

a number of the 965p's can go sligltly over 500fsb now . the 650i looks to hit a little above 500fsb as well --although it might do a bit more when fully developed . gigabyte has a new revision of the ds-3 that is supposed to do into the high 500's (est around 570-580fsb) for about $159 or so . and you have the e-4300 comming out in a few weeks --and the 4400's soon after that . then finally the 45nm's .

so the question is --with inexpensive higher multi-cpu's just around the corner why drop $300 clams for a mb that can only do about 60-80fsb more than my el-cheapo-junkbyte ?

a cheap e-4300 for MSRP of $160--will likely be lower--more like $130

and besides--i'm sort of sick of uber/party/delux/ultra/striker/platinum/gold/overclocker/gammer/ whatever overpriced hype packages there peddeling in the $250-$400+ range

i'm thinking that the 650 ultra --that is supposed to come out in the $100 or even less range . IF the right people do the work on it --will likely hit 600+fsb since some of the new 45nm's are going to start off with very high fsb most likely --your going to need alot of headroom to oc a 45nm . so it will be best to wait and see when the 45s come out.--there should be some mb's making above 600--likely considerable above 600. but they won't be here untill 2q-07. so why worry about it now when most 65nm's can't hit much above 500fsb to start with--lol

I would believe that the main question is "Will this motherboard be available in North America?"... So far, the Commando is not shown on Asus N.A. website, so is for the P5B-E Plus..

It'll be no more then 199 USD,max.

How do you know that? US$.. That means that this motherboard will be sold in US and Canada I guess. Sometimes Asus pisses me off when they release great motherboard that are not sold in N.A.

A little birdy told me,number one.Number two,they cant charge more,as the competition
is too stiff.

Any news/signs of that motherboard in north america??? Again, as for the P5B-E Plus, it is not shown on Asus USA/Canada but is fully advertised in Asus Germany.. WTF? Asus begins to piss me off when not releasing motherboard here but selling them in Europe...

P5n32-e $279 CND at canada computers today. I guess thats like $240ish USD

I still don't see it on the US Asus page.

Can anyone give insight onto the release date of this motherboard in the US?

Europe already has it. I see it as in stock on several UK and German e-tailers.

Yea, I know it's on the ASUS site, but I meant the USA page of the asus site - until it's there it probably won't be out in the US.

Know any Australian e-tailers that I can buy from who ship to the US? =)

Thanks.

Will this be the first P965 to offer SLI? It appears to have dual PCIexpress from the photos.

Most if not all P965 boards I've seen have dual PCIe, none officially support SLI. It's not a problem with the board but a problem with nVidia's drivers. Technically, the hardware will work with SLI but nVidia's drivers won't allow it with non-nVidia chipsets. There are hacked drivers that allow it somewhere. The reason that it work with CrossFire is that ATi allows the use of Intel chipsets in their drivers (as they previously didn't have their own chipset solution).

So, no, this board doesn't allow SLI as is - but it is no fault of the board's.

I am going to have to shoot that little birdy,299 !!! Thats nuts. The 650i boards is where its at,for oc'ing. :)

I've been kinda waiting for the Commando, but now I'm reading that it suffers some of the same issues that the P5B-DLX has. Namely, the problem with the 16x PCI-E slot being slowed to 1x in certain instances.

i had read somewhere that this board will have the ich7r, and not the ich8, to eliminate some of the latters ram compatibility probs and also to offer on board ide rather than jmicro. sounds nice, but i will believe it when i see it. also (one more time) remember that you cannot wear underwear while using this board.

pfffft! who wears underwear when browsing the forums anyways? :D I agree with a few folks in the thread saying the 650's are where its at. I see the most bang for the buck here too. Still waiting on the abit offering as well. Digital pwm is indeed very nice

I doubt this is the case, but I guess we'll see. Everything I've seen has been pretty much 975X/ICH7R and P965/ICH8R...no exceptions. I would have thought that Intel would have put the ICH8R on the Bad Axe 2 just to be "current" but they didn't do that either.

Uhm, I believe I looked at the commando's manual posted to the UK site and it showed the Jmicro chip on the board layout picture and listed it as ICH8 southbridge..... Take a look for yourself
