I am looking at a few motherboards at the moment. I was either thinking of the P5b Deluxe, P5B-E, P5WD2, or will take suggestions. I would like to stay below $200 and will be running 2x HDs in RAID0, E6600, Corsair 6400 (2x1gb), and a 7900GS from the get go. I won't be doing SLI, or am not going to use WiFi, even if I had them, so I would prefer to not pay for them. I am going to eventually over-clock to 3.5ghz or so, and I would like it to be stable. When the computer is first built, it will probaly stay around 3.0ghz for quite some time until I get around to upgrading/installing new fans in the P-180. Any suggestions are welcome.

Also, is the only quad core ready motherboard the 680i?

I am actaully looking for those *Exact* same features in a motherboard, even the e6600 cpu is what i'm using! lol.

There are alot of mobos that will run the kentsfield chips, Mostly the ones that say intel P965 in the title. Here is a a almost all inclusive list, organized by brand of mobo:

I reccomend the P5B Deluxe:

its basically the ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP, but w/o the WiFi. Its only $182.99. I, amd going to end up getting this, the GigaByte:

It has a discount if u buy w/ the processor :), and my budget is way more limited than yours, I would <3 to have that ASUS :)

P5WD2 doesn't run with Core 2 chips.

I'd get either the P5W, or one of the P5B variants depending on your budget. I'm not even a big Asus fan necessarily, but I've had my P5W for about a month now and I like it.

I would prefer to get ASUS, but that is just my preferance, and I have always had good experiences with them. As for my budget, I only upgrade/buy a new computer every 3-4years, so I prefer to spend 1.5-2k and get it done right and have a rig that can keep up for quite some time. Usually this has been working well.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was highly leaning towards the P5B Deluxe, and think I will stick by that. Now I just need to find some good ram.

Hi hdawg06,

I bought the P5W-DH Deluxe and am quite happy with it. But to be honest I don't use half the extra features and I wish that I'd saved some money by buying a board that just had the bare essentials.

My mate just bought this motherboard and he's very impressed by it >> Abit AW9D

It doesn't have on-board sound, wifi or any of that stuff and it has the 975X chipset. Pretty good if you want to save some money on stuff you wouldn't otherwise use.

He overclocks his E6600 to ~3.0Ghz and it's been rock solid so far.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Cheers.

Ah you're right kirbyrj. It has an add-on card if you want sound, but no sound built onto the board itself.

I don't really like the Abit AW9D... Only one PCI slot?!? At least the P5W comes with 3... You would expect the Abit to at least have 2... I definately need 2 since I have an Audigy 2 and a TV tuner
