Hey guys

I just received my Dell 2007WFP today and got a chance to compare 2005FPW & 2007WFP side by side. I didn't have the best camera so some pictures came out fuzzy but that was the best I could do without a tripod.

First thing I noticed right away was that 2007WFP was lighter than 2005FPW. It also looked sexier and I really liked the menu buttons. Bezels are thinner but it makes the 2007WFP smaller than 2005FPW so I don't know if that's really a good thing.

About backlight bleeding. There were none. (I guess I got really lucky with 2005FPW though because many people have reported terrible backlight bleeding problems on theirs).

Now both of them together. What you see in the picture is nothing like what you see in real life in a pitch black room. My camera's shutter speed was very slow and that might be why you are seeing uneven colors here. Notice how black on the 2007WFP is darker. When you view them side by side, black level is much better on the 2007WFP. It is noticeably better.

Surprisingly, colors looked better on the 2005FPW. Blue looks very crisp on the 2005FPW whereas 2007WFP generally has a greenish scent.

Few more side by side comparisons:

2007WFP sure is sexier than 2005FPW! Well... at least in my opinion. =)

After playing around with the settings for few hours, I can honestly say 2007FPW is NOT much better than 2005FPW. At least not in terms of image quality. They are both great I think, but 2007WFP is NOT worth the extra $100 over 2005FPW. The only reason I bought a 2007WFP was because it came with a system I ordered. I got a really great deal on it.

Here is my honest recommendation. If you already own a 2005FPW and are thinking about "upgrading" to 2007WFP because it's newer and supports HDCP, don't. It's not worth the extra $ and the hassle. 2005FPW is great and definitely isn't inferior to the newer model, 2007WFP. Also, people always make a big deal about HDCP support, but you have to realize it really is nothing to worry about. Absolutely nothing. It really won't make much difference. When it finally comes out, you will need to get a new video card with HDCP. HDCP should NOT be the deciding factor when choosing a monitor. True, it's a very small plus, but don't fork over $100 just to get a monitor with HDCP. It's definitely not worth it in my honest opinion. Anyway, I'm tired so I'm probably gonna fall asleep watching The Apprentice.

I hope you enjoyed my review.

Some more information for you guys.

2005FPW: REV A03. Manufactured in Mexico in February 2006.
2007WFP: REV A00. Manufactured in Mexico in March 2006.

Hope that helps.

very nice pics. very helpful. also i didn't know the 2007fpw supported hdcp. good to know.

I thought you could adjust the height on the 2007wfp?

Yeah.. I dont know why he said there was no height ajustment, on mine I can move it up and down just like it shows on your picture James111.

Do you have problems with banding on your 2007wfp?

I didnt notice banding while playing my games so far (WoW, Call of duty, CS). So maybe Im not looking at it carefully enough to see it, but then I could care less. Im very happy with mine so far

P.S I took some pictures of mine, here they are:

Basically, I think someone could say there is banding on the darkest part on the left.. maybe, maybe not. But this is no where near that bad:

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1047166

P.p.s On the last picture it looks like a deadpixel and a bit of bleeding in one corner but its a camera glitch.

does anyone know what the return policy of dell is? do they charge a restocking fee? they are having a 7 day sale in Canada and it's very likely either 2007 or 2005 will be on there.

There's quite a bit of banding there and that STUCK pixel is on all of the shots.

Well I dont see that stuck pixel on my screen with DeadpixelTester, but whatever. As for the banding I decided to take some pictures of different games, might give you a better idea of how it looks like.

(Needless to say I died to take that picture right there
;) )

Take note that the color looks better on the real thing :p

I rang up Dell Australia the other day to order my 2007WFP, and they have a two week (or so) 100% satisfaction policy. You can return it, but you'll have to pay for the postage. $AU 26 in my case. The operator didn't mention anything about a restocking fee.

That pixel might be dead on the camera. And ya there is banding on the pictures, but it doesn't look to noticeable in game.

I don't see it on your other (dif angles, back of monitor) photos which makes me think it's the monitor.

New member here, I have to disagree with the topic starter here. I 1st got a 2005FPW but returned it due to the backlight bleeding that looked like an Xbox symbol, plus I have alot of tv caps jpg images that I take from my tv card and they looked like $hit on the 2005FPW, all pixellated and not sharp like they are on my crt monitor, watching tv using the Dscaler software is way way too bright and picture quality isn't too sharp and also pixellated. Also the lcd is way too bright I had to lower the setting to 0 and then go into the ATi software and lower it to a point where my white background and browser were like the color grey for me to be satisfied with the brightness. Just recieved my 2007FPW and the backlight bleeding issue is gone, the jpg images are clear and sharp now although still not better then crt quality, watching tv through Dscaler now is perfect, image is sharrp, clear, brightness is spot on now and picture isn't pixellated like they were on the 2005. Brightness on the lcd is also way better, all I did was lower the setting to zero and just tweak the ATi settings alittle -50 on brightness and it's perfect. Everything is still white and I can stand not being blind like I was on the 2005 where I had to lower the settings so much that the whites turned grey.

The 2007 is just way better then the 2005. As far as banding I looked at that web page that was posted with the red background and also that blue circle thingy. Although it isn't as smooth as my crt and I can see faint circle rings, I'm not going to return the monitor because of that.

Phew I had to just return the 2005, It was no biggie, UPS just came to pick it up and I was getting alittle worried about this banding thing on the 2007. I'm surfing the web, watching tv, watching my stock ticker, looking at my pictures and this banding thing just isn't noticeable in those situations. So what situations make you guys go ape $hit over this? Will test out this lcd for a week or so and see if my mind changes.

Nice comparison of the 2 monitors. How is the ghosting on the 2007WFP, is it better than the 2005FPW? Since you have both monitors hooked up, can you do the solitaire test and move some cards around, or do the pixperan racing car test. thanks

I am wondering if the 2007WFP has the S-IPS panel, or the AS-IPS panel like the NEC 20WMG2.

The Most important question is, how does porn look on the 2007WFP? Is there banding with the skin tones?

We are two different people with two different monitors. I, the forum starter, did not post those game screenshots. That was posted by someone else with his/her own 2007WFP. If you think that red dot on his/her picture is a stuck/dead pixel, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Stuck pixel would never be that big. To even see a stuck pixel in a picture is almost impossible unless you use digital camera macro mode and take a picture up close. That obviously is a camera problem.

I want to know as well, since I'll be doing some "research" on it if I decide to get the 2007.

I think anybody buying this monitor is foolish. I already did, but that's before I saw the banding problem.

Understand -- this is a problem that even a cheapie LCD from 2 years ago does not have. The 2007 has a serious design flaw somewhere in the DVI and is not up to any standard you'd call acceptable.

hey dude, i think you have too much time on your hands. you purchased 2007wfp in hopes that it would be better than 2005wfp. then you realized that it sux b/c of "banding" problem then you returned it. everyone understands you very well at this point. if you like those cheapo LCD and think they do better, go for them. stop complaining about such a problem and making it a big deal.

OOOhhh Good question

If porn looked like $hit, I would definitely return it ASAP :D
Seriously this banding problem is really no problem for me, I surf the net, watch tv using Dscaler, Watch my stock ticker, Use Paint Shop Pro for image viewing, Do some Photoshopping, Watch DVD, Use WMP for divx files and this banding problem doesn't pop up or maybe I'm not noticing it in any of these situations so it's good for me.

I'm not going to be so anal and stare at gradient charts etc.. and see some faint lines bother me too much. I'm just so glad this is so much better then the 2005 that I just returned. :p

Sony P234 here I come.

I think.
Be careful I returned two of those. The first had a backlight worse than any 2005fpw I have owned and 11 stuck pixels and 2 dead. The second had an even worse backlight, loose screen, and 5 stuck pixels. You will probably have better luck than me though.

You can. That's the same, or very close, as the foot on my 3007WFP, and it's height adjustable. Best, most fluid mechanism I've ever used, too.

I've read stories from those that say it's the best and some that say it's the worse monitor they've ever had.
