People complained about having problem with Xbox360 connected via component and wondered whether there are different versions of the Dell 24". There are indeed different versions and you can check it out as follows.

There are six buttons on your 2405FPW. For convenience's sake I will number them as 1 to 6 from left to right, 1 being the input switch and 6 being the power button.

First, turn off the monitor by pressing 6 (power button). Then hold 3 (the OSD menu button) and 5 (the + button), then turn on your monitor while holding them. Release 3 and 5. Then press Button 3 again (the OSD button) and you will see the version of your 2405FPW.

Mine is 2.0 (bought around a month or so ago). You are welcome to post your version and state what problems you have encountered if it is not 2.0

Cheers

Damn, thats hot, v2.0 here as well. Do you know of any other hidden features/etc?

when your 2405 is on with the 3+5 trick, you'll see a new menu item called "factory" inside the "factory reset" menu item. btw, mine is v1.9.

Cool! V2.0

Is there any objective difference between versions though? I have "read" that Dell intermixes two different screens (from different manufacturers) for the 2405, but I don't know if that has anything to do with version.

I got this one two weeks ago. One week ago, I bought another, and it's screen was noticeably darker- didn't like it, plus it had a dead pixel cluster so it went back. But it's easy to believe that there was something fundamentally different between the two displays that I bought.

Instead, of 3+5+P, you can just hold down 6 and press power as it will do the same thing. At least it does on my 2005fpw..

2.0 bought in december. Works great except with my xbox 360. Too dark and lots of jaggies with component, washed out colours with VGA :(

I ordered a second one, but I expect to have the same xbox 360 problems with it also.

2405FPW = 1.3

no problems with mine with HD, noises, dead pixels or backlighting.

cool.. you can see how many hours you have used the monitor. Mine says 7411. seems like a lot.

My is v2.0 but for some reason I had about 2-3 signal lose where I can't even use the screen unless I restart the pc and its not because of a loose cable.

2327hour 53min, got it in sept(I think)

V1.8 no issues with component dropping out. However, there is an issue with the aspect ratio of 480P content being displayed in the wrong aspect ratio resulting in the image looking fat, or thin when using 16:9 mode in anamorphic. This is one of the reasons the component inputs on the monitor are pretty much useless for anything except 720p content.

I have V1.8 which was purcahsed back in August some time, and now has about 4500 hours on it.

No issues with my monitor (knock on wood), but with PS2 hooked up to the component input looks like crap, and I can't get it to fill the entire screen. That's not really a big deal to me since I have not touched PS2 since building my gaming rig.

2.0 here as well. I don't know if they use different panels, but you can see that the menu says Samsung at the top (at least mine does) when you do this. :)

The counter is pretty much useless on this monitor, it counts as long as the monitor is plugged in.
The 2405 definitely could use more image adjustment controls for the video inputs at least a force 4:3 and 16:9 aspect would be appreciated. If you're using the Playstation2 rarely will the image fill 100% of the screen horizontally, this has to do with the PS2 not the dell; you can adjust the zoom level to eliminate some of this underscan.

October 2005

v2.0

154MHz in red font, I am guessing that's the bandwidth being output by the graphics card?

1.8 here, from Aug
i think there is no problem with 360, but my ms vga was too washed out to compare fairly to component. What was the conclusion on the Monster VGA cable?

VGA depends on the calibration of the screen. This can be changed in the factory menu but be warned - ensure you document the numbers beforehand as these are unique to every screen.

Yeah I'm getting the same thing. I heard that NVIDIA cards were known for the lower DVI bandwidth output than ATI cards... anyone ATI owner care to confirm?

V1.9 here, this panel is a replacement that I got in December, because the original unit had a BAD buzzing problem.

However, now there's a cluster of grey dead pixels smack dab in the middle of the panel. Anyone think Dell would exchange it for another one? There is a 1 year warranty correct?

Displaying 1920x1200@60Hz doesn't actually require 165MHz of bandwidth. About 138MHz of the 154MHZ is the actual picture, the rest is related to synchronization and blanking interval.

Yes, they will replace it with no problems. I have a new one on the way.

I got it back when people were ordering them for around $800 or so the first time around... from the resellers in India. Wipro I think.

Seems like a lot of effort. Mine says the rev. number right on the box it came in. Its Rev. 2.

Yes, but one trait that didn't carry over from my mom to myself is her propensity to keep boxes for decades. This is for those who've tossed their boxes for lack of room, like myself, since I barely have room for all my stuff let alone the boxes for it. :)

BTW, I tried the trick, couldn't get it to do anything accept make my mouse dance around for a bit.

I learned the hard way to not toss boxes. Very bad idea. Not only does it make shipping something back for service often times a royal PITA but it also means some places will not take it back for a refund.

I bought some worthless negative ion generators from radio shack and got stuck with them because without the box they refused to give me a refund.

1.3 ordered mine first week of release

ive had no probs using mine over component with either xbox,ps2,gc or x360

ive yet to try x360 over vga tho

Mine is 2.0, bought it 3 weeks ago. How do i check the hours? Because mine won't she the hours...only says Samsung v2.0 and 154MHz
