2 cards. gt and ultra, does the gt have all ultra features? and is speed difference, amazing or just so-so?

A 6800gt is EXACTLY the same as an ultra cept maybe the cooling system installed and the fact it runs 50mhz lower on the core and like 100mhz slower on the memory. Also, the GT might only have 1 DVI connection where as the ultra may have two. Leadtek i know use two DVI connectors on their GTs so you'd have to look into that.

My advice, if you want to save a bit of cash, is get 6800gts and just overclock them to ultra. Like 95% of 6800gts will clock to ultra on stock cooling so go for the cheaper pair and o/c :).

i gots the bfg 6800gt with 2 dvi connectors.... so it doesan't really have much to do withg that

but

6800gt= 350 mhz core stock / 1000mhz memory stock
6800ultra= 400 mhz core stock / 1100mhz memory stock

6800gt = 1.3 v core coltage stock
6800ultra = 1.4 v core voltage stock

6800gt = 350 watt nvidia recommended powersupply
6800ultra = 480 watt nvidia recommended powersupply (both bullshit)

6800gt = single slot stock crappy cooling
6800ultra = dual slot stock decent cooling

6800 ultra is a bit faster, but the 6800gt can easily be modded or overclocked to the same or greater speeds than the ultra. underneath it all it's basically the same card.

like the guy says, get 6800gt and OC.... most of em get pretty high.. . as long as your PSU aint craptacular like mine

no more drinky for me

Something I'm surprised no one mentioned (but Zinn touched on it with the vcore) is that the 6800 is allowed to draw a lot more power and thus has a higher overhead for OC'ing.

Is there any software that will allow you to increase Vcore on GPU? Or do you have to do something "extreme" like flashing to an ultra bios to get that?

Only flashing...

My Gainward 6800GT AGP with dual dvi connectors and 2-slot cooler made no difference at 1.4v. In both cases it maxed out at ~420Mhz.

Hrmm, for watercooling then I guess it's totally worth it to save $ on the GT and OC it to all hell

Best bang for the buck is the 6800GT, you can usually OC to ultra speeds but the performance difference is really negligable, I have mine back to stock as there is barely any difference outside of 3DMark tests. Of course if you were to buy an ultra you could OC it more-so but with an ultra you have to consider that you will need a really good PSU with 2 free and seprate 12v lines

You just change the setting in bios with a bios editor. But this is a great way to kill a GT. a friend of mine had it up to 1.4v for a while and started getting 2D glitches on screen after a couple of weeks. Reading more into it I saw that people's GTs were dying after a couple months with this the added voltage. The GT really can't handle the extra voltage, I think it's missing a few regulators or capacitors the Ultra has.
