Hello people!!

I'm new here.... I need some help from You gaming experts......

I'm in the process of buying a new graphic card for the sistem...but have some questions.

I usualy play at 1024x768, but with new card would like to switch to 1280x960, and be able to have AA & AF switched on......at least x4/x8.......if needed.

My budget is max, 300$, but less would be nice....

In Europe there ara some new 6800 versions on the market like:

ASUS 6800 GT with 128Mb 350core/700mem
LeadTek 6800 with 256Mb 325core/700mem

both are less than 300$ and both have plain DDR not DDR3, both need only one external power connector, not two.
what is the best way to go? Faster core or more ram?
Will the following cards enable me to play at 1280x960 with AA&AF on?

Second question?
Is my 250W power supply up to run 6800?? And what can I expect if I plug in the card? Low performance or a potential power failure?
I have only 1HDD & 1DVD units conected besides MB. So i have plenty of power cables free (3 or 4)
The problem is that the computer is not mine so I can't replace the power part...I'm only allowed to put in/out cards.....

from what ive been reading i would stay away from that asus gt. Im sure some others are willing to go more indepth for you.

From what I know, Asus GT's are really plain 6800's slightly spiced up.

both cards would allow you to play at those resolutions w/ aa and af on.

2nd.

you might want to get a 300 W or more powersupply. the box says a least a 300... id say get 350 just to be safe.

3rd.

ram vs core speed.

25mhz is not a lot and since you want to do a lot of anti alising and stuff you can use the extra ram.

so i say RAM over a mere 25mhz core speed. you can probably overclock the card to gain that 25mhz .

I'd wait a few weeks for the X800 pro to drop to new offical price of 300 quid.

He said he can't buy a new powersupply since it's not his system. I'd say 250w should be fine if it is decent quality and if that's all that is running on it, especially if it's not one of the later P4s or A64 -- what chip is it running?

Also, I believe the X800 price change will only affect the PCIe versions, no? After all, their AGP leaders will still be the X800 series. Certainly, if the AGP x800 drops to that price then it's a must-have.

This one hear i have seen a few Good things about(LeadTek 6800 with 256Mb 325core/700mem)And if you can get the extra pipes going with rivatuner you really just have a Leadtek 6800GT :p The extra ram will help abit more espessially if you get the 16 pipes happenin ;)
So i would say take the LeadTek 6800 with 256Mb And enjoy great gaming.

No sir, I know what I am talking about :p
Ati's 300$ agp part is hte X800 pro. .get this the time!

u can get the real GT for a bit more... so why even get the 256 ram NU?

Thanx guys....

Well then it would be LeadTek with 256 or a x800 Pro.....

The problem is now that there is still 100$ difference..... but x800 would need less power probably.

If the X800 is $100 cheaper than the 6800 then jump at it because apart from openGL the X800Pro is a slightly better card than the 6800NU ;) But that LedTek card certainly aint no slouch either ;)
(Unless you are running some really generic 300W PSU you will be right with power as both the X800Pro and 6800NU pull about the same power contary to popular myth :p
