New and Improved Watercooling Sticky - Post Your Systems Here

Thanks. I forgot to mention that the CPU will average 95C at 325W on R23. Zero clock throttling. Once winter comes around again with ambients of 20C I'll be able to get some better bench runs in. Still broke some personal records this morning and a couple older benchmarks put me in the top 100...

New and Improved Watercooling Sticky - Post Your Systems Here

Hard to believe no one has posted since my last ones in March. Here's my new main rig. Asus Z790 Hero Lapped 13900KS with a Thermal Grizzly contact frame and Watercool heavy backplate, Heatkiller IV block 32GB Kingston DDR5-7200C38 Intel Optane 905P 380GB M.2 eVGA 3080Ti with Heatkiller V...

Just a blast from the past build (Windows XP Pro 32-bit, CRT Monitor)

There is a user on ebay who was selling the Titan Blacks and other compute-heavy cards of the era in matched pairs, all in pristine condition. Must have been a lab environment or similar. He doesn't have any more cards that would work in WinXP listed currently, though. The Asus 780 Ti sounds...

Just a blast from the past build (Windows XP Pro 32-bit, CRT Monitor)

I did something similar recently, making my own "peak WinXP" machine. And it is stupid fast. I made 116K in 3DMark01 with it so far. Maybe I'll crack 120K with some GPU OC'ing, but it's really CPU bound. Asrock Z97 Anniversary Intel G3258, delidded and at 4.8GHz (50% OC) 2x2GB Corsair DDR3-2133...

New and Improved Watercooling Sticky - Post Your Systems Here

Two systems to share. The first is my "backup rig": Lapped 13600K on an Asrock Z690 Extreme with my 2080Ti, with a GTX240 radiator in push/pull, and Heatkiller blocks. GPU hums along at under 50C on a 300W gaming load. Great little system. The second is my "peak Windows 7" retro rig consisting...

How long is a 12700k setup good for?

5 years, easy. 10 if you push it. I coupled my 2600K with a 2080Ti for a little while and it was fine.

Do PS3's have any use now?

Funny. I called a PS3 a retro machine, yet I call my old Socket A rig a vintage gaming PC. Can't win apparently. PS3s are still good for playing Blu Rays, too. I haven't checked to see how many streaming apps are still available.

evga sale this weekend, big cuts on gpus

The pricing on many of their B-stock GPUs is confusing. Not competitive with Ebay prices, even. It's tempting to pick up a new 2060 KO Ultra Gaming at $250, though.

Do PS3's have any use now?

Good video on the levels of HD in the games. Force Unleased was done at 1280x720p apparently. Surprised that GT5 wasn't full HD either given it was a star title for the PS consoles.

    [H]ard Forum Storage Showoff Thread

I compared the Optane to my HP EX920 and even though the sequentials are still in the high 2000MB/s range, the Q1D1 test was 3-4x faster than the flash based drive. Looking at Gen4 drives the Optane still is better by a large margin in that game. Once I migrate to a Gen 5/DDR5 based rig, the...

    Best all-around gaming/music headphones for $150?

I'll second the Sennheiser recommendation. Although I would go with good pair of headphones and get a desk mounted mic if you need one. I have a Blue Snowball and it has superior voice to any headset mic I've used.

I got a steal on this Optane 380GB M.2. Always wanted to pick one up for a fun drive or boot drive but they were always stupid expensive. The stock Intel "Thermal Solution" is pretty much a joke. On basic drive speed tests it would throttle before the end of the test. Picked up a Thermalright...
